You make a good point, but i can perfectly understand why bands are releasing such a variety of pre order packs. The music industry doesn't work in quite the sane way now so pre orders seem like a brilliant way to secure capital from your core audience and reward them with something unique for there troubles. The amount of money is as much as your willing to spend, but i'm glad to have these options
Can you do a video series on the history of Heavy Metal, like how it started, from Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and how it evolved, that would be pretty fun to watch.
Adam Saab Dude, it’s out there already. Sam Dunn from Banger TV did a whole docu-series of each sub genre of metal. It’s so fun to watch. He’s a metal anthropologist and interviewed a lot of metal artists. ❤️💕🤘🏼

I pre ordered the Shield/CD/Patch pack from EMP for £79.99. I know this Is expensive but as for as the CD goes I have full faith the album will be amazing. And I just want that shield on my wall. The patch is cool too.
I don’t why anyone would pre order an album these days. Just listen at midnight on a streaming service. If you like it, order it & continue to listen on streaming until it arrives.

The only time I pre-order something is if it's extremely limited.
I never pre-order an album (digital at the very least) unless it's from a band I absolutely love, I know for sure I'm gonna like the album and want to ensure that it will have a place in my iTunes collection. Otherwise, I do as you said and wait for the album to come out and see what people think of it, listen on RUclips, and THEN potentially purchase.

I mostly Pre-order small unknown band albums from Bandcamp, they always let you listen to at least One song so you know if you like it or not and the most album there are about 10€ - 20€

In my country just ordering an album from a store, well, its fucked up man. In the best store we have, you need: 1. Pay the album. 2. Pay for reserving it, if not, anyone can buy,(and they will, there's a shitton of metalheads in the store, which is awesome, even the employees are metalheads, its always sweet). 3. Pay for them sending it.
Its a lot, especially in my place since the economy its also fucked up. Of course, you can use Amazon or something like that but (for me atleast) it always comes broken, ALWAYS. So buying it from a store is more safe. But its still fucked up goddamit.
Extra: No one comes here, NO ONE, and I can't afford a fuckin' trip. If i could, of course, but now, nop. The only metal bands that came were Metallica and Dream Theater.

Iam a huge vinyl fan. I have the first album by wasp. An the same on picture disc. I think that many is collectors an they buy the different ones. An just listen to the standard black vinyl. Hops that makes sense

The pre orders make sense in an industry where bands aren't making mony off play royalties . The value of the music its self has been greatly deminished by streaming services .so record lables are now turning to merch (product) to make sales, its simply an adaptation to the current conditions of the music industry

Why preorder an album when 75% of the time it will suck?
Behemoth did a similar thing to Amon Amarth with I Loved You At Your Darkest. You could get different kinds of pre-orders (combinations of T shirts, pins, hoodies, cds, vinyls) but the most expensive may have been 100 bucks. And usually if you trust in a band enough that their music is going to be good based off all their other albums you like, its more likely that you’ll shell out extra cash for a preorder that contains merch. I was super close to preordering Behemoth in the LP (it came out Oct 6 last year i think) but college kids like myself are tight on money, so... I just streamed it.
And surprise surprise they became even more commercial.
I'm super excited for the Amon Amarth album.
I feel like most of the people who would buy both vinyls would be the type to keep one, keep the other sealed, then wait for it to go out of print so they can sell it on eBay and potentially make their money back.
For me i mostly listen to 1 or 2 songs from the new albums from youtube or spofily to see if I'll enjoy it.. then i'll throw down maybe $40 just for cd and shirt and maybe a poster... other then that 200$ for a big pack is pretty insane in my book...

The only album I've ever pre-ordered at this point is Lost Eternally by Chalice of Suffering, which is coming out here in a few days. It was a good deal. Only $20 USD.

Only record I have pre-ordered right now is the new Static X record. Other than that I've been buying a bunch of Rotten Sound CDs, Dir En Grey and Wintersun cds and I've already got tons of Meshuggah merchandise

I think with vinyl, the biggest thing getting out of control is the sheer amount of limited vinyl. Different colours, patterns, every combination of styles. All for the same album, and then some people like to collect the set which leads to them paying ridiculous amounts of money on the same album. Similar to variant covers on comics, it's getting a bit out of control. I like to have a CD, cassette and vinyl where I can if I really enjoy the album, but I'm not wasting my money on all the different versions out there, it's crazy

I've been a metalhead for a looooooong time. I don't know many metalheads that can afford $200 for anything, let alone three versions of the same album. A lot of bands seem to be losing touch with their fans. Metallica all over again. Luv yer stuff, BW!

I think Amon Amarth's collectors bundle is over the top. I mean yea a real wooden shield. But do I really like collectors bundle with like 3 shirts a CD a vinyl

I have pre-order a box set of Dark Funeral, 10 CD's witch is all their release in one box (album - EP's and live CD + a flag). I think it worth the 100$ but alot of band make's alot of different package for the same album that's for me, its a bit weird when we saw like over 10 different packages...money maker is going big, we can't blame those band's since we can listen those song's for free. So it's making sense for them to release 15 different kind of package for the same album.
I think the prices for music in general are way too high. I mean when a new album is coming out, like the new one from In Flames or Children of Bodom, you couldn't find a single copy of these albums under 18 Euro. That's way too much and therefore I wait until the prices drop. I think around 10-12 euro would be realistic, but sure there must be higher production costs nowadays or whatever
I don’t really mind them, yeah some might be ridiculous but for a super fan they are cool. I don’t order collector editions for anything unless I’m a huge fan and am pretty sure it’s gonna be good.

I think the pre order bundles could be better priced.When Marduk released Viktoria I preordered the box edition for like $50 and I feel like I got what I paid for. Regardless I'm excited for the album and hope it's good. If not I guess Jomsviking won't be the backpatch for my next battlevest.

Hey, could someone explain to me, why people call LP's vinyl? I know, it's the material, but it's also the material used in some flores. So, calling records vinyl is like telling someone, "Hey, I just bought wood." Instead on "Hey, I just bought a new table.". I don't get it, can someone tell me, how vinyl became the most used term for records?

I preordered the new Starkill album and there was a shit ton of different packages. The cheapest one was the signed cd and digital files (the one i got) but the most expensive was $128 i think, and it had the signed cd, digital files, a tshirt, guitar picks and more stuff. it seemed kinda pointless for all the other stuff, espicially the guitar picks when you can get ordinary ones for a better price that are better quality

The labels just commercialize the hell out of popular bands like Amon Amarth, it's terrible. Nuclear Blast also makes like 10 versions of everything, Johan Hegg could fart and NB would still release a CD, digipak CD, and at least 5 colors of vinyl. And yes, there are sometimes boxsets etc that are worth €150-€170, but most of the times it's just gimmicky crap.

Vinyl is getting ridiculous. Record Store Day releases are $24.99-29.99. One such release was the Private Parts soundtrack released on vinyl for the first time but the CD can be found in most bargain bins.
