I have several friends with whom I go through this dialog routine on the telephone on occasion. We always end up laughing our a---s off. Thank you for posting this!!!
I found this this afternoon, watching it five times in a row, and could barely breathe each time. As I was driving to pick up lunch, I was laughing myself to tears just thinking of this video. Other drivers thought I was insane.
Peter Sellers was the best. You know what's coming, but you can't help yourself. You have to laugh. It's just the way he sells it. Amazing, even after 30 + years.
Peter Sellers; tortured comic genius, one of the funniest men who have ever walked this earth and the best Inspector Clouseau. Forget Steve Martin, I love his early stuff, but he's no Peter Sellers.
Sellers was brilliant, irrespective of the character he was portraying. I can't understand how they got through the scenes without breaking down with laughter.
Thats the movie business, the true original comedians are long gone, all those famous writers are all dead ,thus the new wave of hollywood stars have to make a living somehow right?
My favorite Pink Panther bits are these two: - The one at the beginning of "Return Of The Pink Panther" with the bank robbery and the "minkey". "How can a blind man be a lookout?" "How can an idiot be a police officer, answer me that?". "Simple, he just has to enlist." "SHUT UP!" - The one an the insane asylum with the croquet ball and Dreyfuss. "Every day, in every way, I'm getting better and better. Hee-hee!"
I know I''m getting old, but man I miss comedies like this. They actually took talent, brilliant acting and, especially between Peter Seller and Herbert Lom, great chemistry. Murder by Death...another great Peter Sellers movie (outstanding ensemble cast).
@@derwoodbowen1949 Oh absolutely. I think the problem is that hollywood has dumbed down so much, including smart clever comedies. It's good when people love this stuff of any age. But damn hollywood seems to forget how good this stuff was!
@@Some0neSomewhere One of my favorite comedy techniques is clever wordplay, something that was much more of a thing in older comedy than it is today. It's why I love certain classic bits (stuff like The Marx Brothers, for example, were absolute legends at)
I agree. One of the all-time funniest moments of any movie. I still can remember when I first saw this scene and almost ended up on the floor laughing so hard. Peter Sellers was a true comic genius God rest his soul. Thanks for posting.
This is probably my favorite clip out of all the great things Sellers did as Clouseau.Dreyfus chasing him and shooting at him in Hong Kong and Clouseau trying to stop him by yelling "Its me!" and Dreufus replying "I know!" as he kept shooting is another favorite.
I remember watching this movie in the theater when I was a kid, and laughing hysterically at this scene.I own this DVD and I must've seen this clip dozens of times, and I STILL laugh out loud every time! One of the funniest bits ever!
I loved the Pink Panther movies. Peter Sellers really brought slapstick comedy back with the series of movies. I still laugh when I watch them and I have seen them several times.
That actor playing the hotel clerk is Graham Stark who is in every Pink Panther movie except for the first one, "Inspector Clouseau", and the Steve Martin films but he plays different characters.
No, it is a British character called Graham Stark. He is one of those people who haven't made it as an individual but seemed to pop up in no end of supporting roles with all the best comedians and in many TV shows. Peter Sellers was a complex character who fell out with everyone but always considered Graham Stark to be a great friend. He is also an accomplished photographer.
It was the second movie in the series directed by Blake Edwards who deserves as much credit as Sellers for it's success. He casted serious, stage actors opposite him which brought out more of Peter Sellers' comical genius.
"Does your DUAG bite?" "Nope.".....chomp..... "I thought you said your DUAG did not bite"....."That is not my DOG"....forever and forever imitated....never duplicated....
The funniest bit in all of the Sellers Pink Panther films is a very quick, subtle little, I don't know, maybe "nuance" or perhaps "accent" added to the law of physics. I don't even remember at the moment which movie it is but the chief is one floor below the Inspector & he stacks some stuff into a wobbly scaffold to get him close to the ceiling. He drills through the ceiling where the Inspector is walking on the floor above & like an idiot, sticks his index finger through the hole. Naturally, Clouseau steps on the chief's finger causing him to knock his make-shift scaffold down, leaving him hanging by that one finger. The bit is funny enough when the Inspector moves because it goes without saying that the chief will not be physically able to hang by one finger. However, the "nuance" I mentioned above is the fact that instead of simply slipping through the hole as the chief falls once Clouseau moves his foot, the chief's finger straightens up for an instant and THEN he falls. That extremely brief defiance of gravity is one of THE FUNNIEST THINGS that I have EVER seen in ANY movie anywhere, any time. 😄😆😂🤣😂🤣😂😅 Absolute comedy gold with genius on top... 🇺🇸
Sellers was a prodigious talent. Too bad in the end that great talent was squandered on moronic crap like the stupid Clouseau flicks, which got progressively worse with every addition to the franchise.
i love how hilariously vicious the dog is. "Please Kato ensure that the back and front doors are locked while I slip into my hunchback disguise kit..."
My dog training assistant introduced me to this clip many years ago. We always used to quote it! 'Zat iz not my dog'. Must have said that one 100 times during working with a dog. Caroline tragically died last week. RIP and thanks for all the laughs.
We're in the same demographic. It may also be that Peter Sellers is more popular in the UK than in the US. I'd never even heard of this clip until watching someone referred to it so I had to go see it. For me I prefer intelligent humor as well as wacky. For example, I can appreciate a silly Monty Python sketch but at the same time find something written by Jon Stewart insanely riotous. Culture, upbringing and personal taste have an affect on that sort of thing.
@MrSportsFanatic1 Steve Martin does not ruin the Peter Sellers PP movies, he only makes these original ones look even better with his lame rip off attempts! imo Sophia, 19, @ Vassar College!
Years ago when I worked at Kinko's Copy Center I put "Guy Gadbois" on my nametag, though I wasn't specifically a medieval castle authority from Marseilles, yeau kneau...
Possibly the the funniest and best executed gags ever.
And so goofy.
I must have seen this a hundred times over the years, and I still can't keep a straight face: timeless, perfect comedy.
+Shawn Majette ...same...cracks me up every time......

Give me ONE man like Clouseau...

Peter Sellers; tortured comic genius, one of the funniest men who have ever walked this earth and the best Inspector Clouseau. Forget Steve Martin, I love his early stuff, but he's no Peter Sellers.
Steve who ?
@Dirkjan To reveal the location of the birdie num nums.
Kevin Kline should have been Clouseau, not Steve Martin.
Sellers was brilliant, irrespective of the character he was portraying. I can't understand how they got through the scenes without breaking down with laughter.
This is what you call timeless, classic comedy! No sex, tasteless jokes, or laughter at another persons expense.
Why would they even try remaking this? Impossible and annoying to even try.
Perfect happens once, there’s no need to remake it, try something original.
Thats the movie business, the true original comedians are long gone, all those famous writers are all dead ,thus the new wave of hollywood stars have to make a living somehow right?

I like how Dreyfus says "your fired! What do you say now?..........(clouseau) "can you lend me fifty francs.......
The whole bank robbery sketch was insanely funny. Even a French friend thought so.
What about the “ kidnapping” One
The interrogation scene is gold
Chimpanzee minkey.

The old pink panthers are the best comedy series of ALL TIME, hands down!!
May peter sellers rest in peace.
Bloody hilarious!
Sellers is the most versatile actor I have ever seen and a comic genius.
I tear a gut every time I see this clip! Classic humor at it's best, without being profane, vile or trashy. Where are the creative writers these days?
PC culture destroyed that, you cant make a single joke without offending somebody.
Dog bit the hell out of that hand!
Thats a priceless Steinway!....Not anymore....

No.
You told me that your dogs doesn`t bite
It is not my dog.
■Peter Sellers was amazing■
Yeah that was what I just watched
I'm going to pass out if I watch this again XD
Spencer H Everytime I watch this Peter Sellers I can't breathe for like hours
Why its always important to ask the right questions!
Surely one of the funniest gags ever and delivered perfectly. An utter gem no matter how many times you watch it
Oh how I miss the old school Pink Panther!
I've watched this a million times and it still makes me cry with laughter!
I remember watching this movie in the theater when I was a kid, and laughing hysterically at this scene.I own this DVD and I must've seen this clip dozens of times, and I STILL laugh out loud every time! One of the funniest bits ever!
Love this scene! Best friend and I are 51 years old and we STILL act this out when visiting! Clouseau keeps you feeling young!
It's 2017 and I still find this scene FUCKIN HILARIOUS. Unbelievable lol
Love it... The music in the background makes it so much better. Lol.
still get tears in my eyes from this scene,so funny
I loved the Pink Panther movies. Peter Sellers really brought slapstick comedy back with the series of movies. I still laugh when I watch them and I have seen them several times.
"Clouseau... there was a time I couldn't even pronounce his name"
CHIEF INSPECTOR DREYFUS
That actor playing the hotel clerk is Graham Stark who is in every Pink Panther movie except for the first one, "Inspector Clouseau", and the Steve Martin films but he plays different characters.
So if that's not the manager's dog, does that mean pets are permitted in that hotel?
Aurochs hunter in 1964 probably yes. Dogs were allowed in butchers bakers and every shop well into the 1970s
A more civilized world back then. By the way, it's still common with dogs in hotels in Europe. I'd never set my foot in one that didn't.

I think I coughed up my lungs from laughing
seen it a hundred times and i still laugh at the dog bit.
this brings me to tears every time i watch it, priceless
I half laughed harder and longer over that one bit than any other I have seen in my entire life.
you must ask the precise question......
"That is not my dog." :-)
It was the second movie in the series directed by Blake Edwards who deserves as much credit as Sellers for it's success. He casted serious, stage actors opposite him which brought out more of Peter Sellers' comical genius.
I used to say that some people just never die, because they keep eternally inside our minds. Forever. And one of them is Peter Sellers...!
How could you not like this sketch
This bit made me wet myself laughing when I was a kid. It still reduces me to jelly 20-odd years later. Sellers was a comedy genius.
This scene never gets old.
Absolute 100% classic scene. These two, Peter Sellers and Graham Stark, were good mates in real life...not sure the dog liked Sellers though! lol
This is why you have to be careful to ask the RIGHT question!
perfection, even the little kookoo clock noise at the end.
This is the funniest scene ever ha ha ha - I can watch it over and over and it never fails to crease me up.
The old guy on the right is my geography teachers dad (no I’m not kidding)
Did his dog bite?
@@frankie3041 Lmao
I grew up on Peter Sellers and Pink Panther and haven't Revisited it in 30 years, that cracked me up

That was comedy!
Comedic genius! He can make any generation laugh.
More Champaz please..Inspector Clouseau?
You have to give credit to Graham Stark (the innkeeper) too.
This bit is one of the, if not the, greatest jokes in all of film.
Also I love how funny Peter Sellers is with his overly done French accent.
Peter Sellers, Does your dog bite ? ~ C/O Neville Bardoli
So little said, yet so intelligent and witful. Perfect.
"That is not my dog..."
do you have a REUM ....... great background music too !!
Unforgettable Peter Sellers. A total genius.
"Nice Doggy."
"Huh,huh,huh."
:DDD...the best example for Grice's cooperative principle in linguistics!!!
Absolutely awesome! I always laugh out loud when I watch it.
Clouseau - Does your dog bite"? Clerk - "No".... Clouseau -"I thought you said your dog doesn't bite" Clerk - "That is not my dog".
it's quite cool that albert einstein managed to find acting work after being a physicist.

All I can say is, they used one mean ass dog to shoot that scene. That wiener dog is a total psycho.
This and the ‘four candles’ sketch are the two most perfectly written comedy skits of all time. Seriously type in ‘four candles’ by the two Ronnies
Even though you know what is coming it is still as hilarious as the day it was made!!
Sellers was a prodigious talent. Too bad in the end that great talent was squandered on moronic crap like the stupid Clouseau flicks, which got progressively worse with every addition to the franchise.
