- Joining me today is the drummer that has powered the iconic British Electronic band Depeche Mode since 1997.
Join Christian and myself as we chat about his remarkable career from his early days beginning as a young drummer in his home city of Vienna quickly finding himself in demand playing on lots of sessions and gigs.
We talk about his move to London as a relatively unkown musician in the UK, how he eventually met, how he got the gig with, and how it is performing and recording with Depeche Mode.
I was thrilled to be offerd the opportunity to chat with Christian, he is a chap who scarcely does interviews, for no other reason than being constantly in demand as one of the most sought after drummers in Europe.
Huge thanks to my good friend and first call UK Session Drummer Steve Barney for making the connection with Christian.
I Hope you enjoy the interview, please subscribe to the channel.
I’ve had the honor of meeting him a few times… Nicest guy ever!❤
Thanks for the interview. I have been a fan of him since I saw him during touring the angel back in 2006. I think he contributes greatly to depeche mode sound. It was a pleasure to find out things about his background and understanding. Great musician!!
Thank you! it was a pleasure for me too!
What a great interview. You are spot on about the live stuff having the extra oomph and dynamism . Just Give Me a Pain that I’m Used To live at Austin is like a kick ass punk rock band! And the Phil Rudd name check is a wow moment. But it makes perfect sense of course! Thanks, really enjoyed an insight into one of my favourite and a very underrated and unknown drummer.
Good interview. I didnt know Eigner is so talkative.
Thanks Margus really apprciate it - he was great to talk to!
Thank you for this perfect Interview. Christian Eigner are a perfect drummer, with sensibility, powerful conduction, and sweet conduction when necessary with superior professionalism as a always. I'm other side of world but I have special thankfully for this. Greetings from Brasil.
Thank you for your kind comment! its much appreciated!
@@percussiondiscussionpodcastThank you too for, your answer.
Just love those dw kit set ups, concert toms etc. He sounds great with Depeche Mode. Nive one Matty.
Just found this and it was neat to hear more about Christian.
Glad you enjoyed it Mitchell.
Another great interview Matty! Thank you. Great to hear about Christian’s drumming journey.
Thanks Ali 😊🥁
Thank you for the fascinating interview! I've always liked top-end Paiste more than Zildjian, perhaps because of the softer attack and more ambient overtones.
Hi Victor - thank you very much, im glad you enjoyed it!
Great interview! I’ve always found Christian’s music very appealing. It was amazing learning more about his influence and experiences. Also your style as an interviewer is amazing so what us as musicians want/need someone to just feel comfortable with/around.
Thanks so much for the lovely comments, really appreciated! Christian is fabulous, i was very lucky to be able to spend some time with him.
@@percussiondiscussionpodcast he was probably the main inspiration and influence for me getting back playing. And then here a few weeks ago I had surgery so that had put a halt to my practice. I finally got to play again a few nights ago so I took some advice from a friend and someone things from this interview and threw at it.
@@hunterjademcreynoldseast993 Awesome!! Glad you are back playing again.
Great interview!! Congrats on getting Christian into this space of doing interviews. He should do more as so insightful! Tom
Hi Tom, Thank you very much. i agree, i think we would all benefit from hearing more from Christian!
Synth bands doing lives without drums are boring as hell. Heaven 17 does smaller lives sans drums and it sounds crap. Mesh is very boring live.
Totally agree Margus
I disagree. Listen to DM live. The real drums don't work. Maybe an electric kit would.
@@strychnyne3530 I have visited DM lives several times over the years. Eigner is the beast and DM is amazing with him.
@@strychnyne3530 as drummers we like to hear real drums, i think Christian does a great job with DM - i see your point that its perhaps not the same as the tracks were originally recorded. i think it gives it a real energy the mix of Synth and live drums. Cheers, Matty
