Can you interview Gary Delaney ? Do you get along well ? And why haven't you been on Davids radio show ? The opposite to WILTY .. Unbelievable Truth.. Thought I may have heard you in 1 show but I could be wrong.. Hope you are well and I hope Sean's family are ok 😂
Well what a lovely conversation that was. I must say though, it's a rare sight seeing Milton not looking like he was dragged through a hedge backwards!
Enjoyed this - Milton is very down to earth, as I discovered hosting him at Wicked Hathern Fest, we couldn’t persuade him to trouble us for anything and went and bought his own food and drink from the festival site (despite the option of a private green room) - possibly the most approachable and polite act we’ve ever had… and he smashed the comedy stage too! Top comedian, lovely fella 😃
That was a fantastic watch. It’s very rare we get to see Milton Jones out of character. And Rob Brydon has a fantastic style of interviewing people. He makes it into a chat between two friends rather than “just another interview”.
After all the joy, laughter and intellectual delight that Milton has delivered over the years, I will put it out there that Milton is the comedian’s comedian. Watch the incredulous laughs that he always gets from other comics on Mock The Week…. They are often in awe of his capacity to finagle a jest out of nowhere. And please tour Australia (particularly Western Australia) again. Thanks again for all the laughter.
I agree with you... although I have to be honest and say I'm wary of what I see on Mock the Week as being as spontaneous as it appears. "Let's spin the wheel..." the subject comes up, and whoever goes to the microphone has a routine ready (because the subjects picked are based on that comedian's act). Also, with the "Scenes We'd Like to See" I do believe they are fed the titles in advance, so they have time to work on a few gags to get themselves warmed up... after all, it wouldn't be such exciting TV if the topic was revealed and we then had five minutes of them standing there working out the jokes.
I love it when Milton is on Mock the Week . He's so off the wall , and it's hilarious . He looks like the man on the film Airplane when he sniffs glue .
Milton Jones is an absolute gem, I love him. I go and see every show he does. (Once only, of course. I’m not a groupie.) There was an amazing story he told the once involving “seek/Sikh assistance” and I’ve never been able to remember it fully, I just remember the belly laughs.
I really enjoyed that. Rob is a good interviewer, and I think him having a lot in common with Milton just made it better. And I'm a big fan of Milton - I really like his approach to comedy, and the relentless series of one liners that leaves you grasping at the laugh for the current joke, while you're still processing the previous one. Not many comics stand out as different, but he does.
As he said about the violinist, Milton's very pared-down jokes give off that feeling of watching a master craftsman. You can tell he pays attention to every single syllable of his gags being just so - and then he produces so many of them he has to consider audience fatigue! Really amazing skill
Two of my favourite brilliant comedians being honest and open with each other ( and us ). Good to hear how Milton works on his material. Wish I was that creative!
Rob asks all the right questions. Thank God the guests have entertaining answers. It's good to see that Milton in not a mental case but a very intelligent man.
At the 7:55 mark Rob, speaking of ignoring the baa baa noises at his early gig, says, 'I know that now'. It's a classic Milton Jones line - he can run through a bunch of his stuff with the same ending line, 'Yesterday I got fired for giving up my seat on the bus to an old lady. Turns out a bus driver isn't even allowed to be courteous these days. I know that now.'
Anybody can do puns, but theres something about what he does that elevates it. A lot of the cheesy 70s comedians would say similar jokes and they'd be groan worthy. I wonder what he does that makes it not so.
Definitely one of the UK's underrated comedians. I've had more belly aches from laughing at Milton's comedy than quite a few more "well known" comedians out there!!
YES....YES...! PLEASE do a comedy actor role, Milton. Please don't forget that idea..In the wake of the actors you mentioned I am certain it would work for you. Brilliant idea.
Saw Milton Jones just before the first lockdown in Dudley performing Million Impossible, I took the wife with me, very clean, very funny, having listened to his radio 4 comedy shows ( hurry up and do some more ) he didn't disappoint, the wife loved it
Same! Love the comedians who come locally! Can’t beat the town hall venues. One time I actually found a parking space directly outside Dudley town hall! It was a special day..
I had a ticket for Milton Impossible at the Crewe Lyceum, but lockdown happened a few weeks before - it was 18 months later before I finally got to use my ticket!
I agree. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) I discovered this podcast just today. Finally a podcast where the podcaster isn't a pathos loving man-child, if you know what I mean.
Rob Brydon's impersonations are so funny. 'I'm doing Ronnie Corbett' 😆 Great to see Milton Jones as himself, just for a change, he's very clever, very intense.
The Ronnie impression is funny in and of itself, but the fact that Rob shamelessly drags it out at every possible opportunity is hysterical. Even when you see it coming from a mile away, before it even starts. He's fucking brilliant.

@@yester30 Besides hearing him have a regular conversation with Rob, we also got to see his hair looking norm as l and not all standing up. He definitely has a completely separate persona on stage. It makes so much sense now that I've heard him say that he originally wanted to be an actor. He's created a whole character for himself, just like character actors often do.
@Real Aiglon I live in the U.S. and have never heard Milton interviewed before this. I am a fan of his Mock the Week appearances, which I've only been able to access on RUclips. Seeing how much his stage persona is a big shift from his real personality makes me an even bigger fan.

I heard him talking in another interview about his son telling him a joke he'd made up. That joke, in a different form, ended up in a radio show, and he gave his son a writing credit on the show. Afterwards his son came running up to him and said "Dad, did you hear? One of the writers has the same name as me!"

I love the way he thinks. Two Milton jokes that come to mind: “About a month before my grandfather died, we covered his back with lard. After that he went downhill very quickly.” “My aunt Marge has been so ill for so long that we've started to call her I can't believe she's not better.”
I had a job in a pathology lab, but I was asked to leave after one of my reports said cause of death "Autopsy." This one took a second but it's also why I love it - “Some people say that firefighters deserve more money, but apparently a poll was taken and they all fell through a hole in the floor.”
the second joke doesn't make sense..because if she's been ill for so long why would expect her to get better? i udnerstand marge means margarine but still..
@@emilydavids209 There used to be, maybe still is, a butter substitute called I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter. So it’s a typically-absurd Milton Jones joke about Marge and butter. No, it doesn’t make sense logically, but I like the fact that no-one else could tell that joke and make it funny.

Really good stuff, I really thought it impossible to create the atmosphere of "Friends" if you are just one guy. Glad to break free from that misconception. Thx dr Brydon!!
Milton is a really funny guy. His humour isn’t offensive, it’s just really silly, but incredibly funny. A bit like Steven Wright’s delivery, but without a high-pitched American voice. 😂
A friend of mine, who worked at a bank told me that his boss told him she'd booked him into an assertiveness course. I said to him " you should have told her to f*** off". It still makes me chortle
The guy is so smart, he approaches comedy from such a practical level. The UK version of Stephen Wright, but a tad more personable. Most successful people have done what they do for 10,000 hours - look it up. Bottom line - is he's always thinking of the next joke. Call me thick, but I didn't get the Cheerios joke.
Used to love the Bearcat at the Turks Head - saw a lot of up and coming comics like these guys. Rich Hall played a blinder there, riffing on the name of the pub for 20 minutes.
I’m confused as to why Milton couldn’t play Shylock these days? The character has been played for 400 years! Great interview. Two comedians whose craft I respect.
The challenge for an audience, since the Holocaust, is to deal with a villain who is a Jew, and that isn't easy. The play does show the hateful nature of Christians.
Excellent episode! I was just curious though, what happened to the one with Hugh Dennis? I was listening to part of it yesterday and tried to find it again on spotify today to no avail.

I didn't know you had a youtube channel. You'll be the talk of the village.
Reverse engineering makes the 'you can't Beatrice' joke all the understandable.
Clare Balding if she wanted a baby and the sperm donor was Greg Dyke!
Go figure?
i saw Milton impossible at the Weymouth pavilion and it was brilliant
That Ascot and croaky voice, Jaysus I hope thats not cancer. Milton is a wonderful comic, a gentle type of humour that is not often appreciated.
Excellent episode! I was just curious though, what happened to the one with Hugh Dennis? I was listening to part of it yesterday and tried to find it again on spotify today to no avail.
C'mmon Rob, get him onto wilty 👍
VERY FUNNY MAN INTERVIEWING ANOTHER VERY FUNNY MAN. LOVE THEM BOTH.😅😅😅❤❤❤
Milton's live flag routine is hilarious
