I think what makes this show stand out is the superb casting. Literally we enjoy watching all of them. Cora, Mary, Edith, Barrow, Carson, Mrs. Hughes, Patmore, Anna, the Dowager, Mrs Levinson... so intriguing all of them.
Fantastic performance by the actress who plays Edith in Downton Abbey The truth was one of my favorites in the series, I experienced all her sufferings, her failures and in the end her flowering, because she conveyed it in such a real way. Congratulations!!!
I just finished watching downton abbey for the very forst tims and Im about to watch the movie. HANDS DOWN, one of the absolute best shows I have ever seen.
If they make a sequel to the movie I would like to see Downton tackle WW-II. (They would have to age everyone a bit, but make-up wizards can work wonders.)
That would literally be the end of Downton as a series. The kids would be all grown up, and some main characters would probably be dead or literally be 100+++ years old like Lady Violet. And introducing grown-up kids, would either prove jarring or confusing to a film that has A LOT of major and side characters, wherein they'd have to tackle a part of history dealt in 6 years from 1939 until the end of WW2 in 1945 in a 2-hour film format. I don't think a one hour film could cover all of that unless they make a 2-part film circling the entirety of what WW2 brought to the UK as a literal end to an ERA.
I have long argued that they need to do a DA film focusing on the Battle of Britain in which young George grows up to be an RAF pilot and the overall story is about how everyone deals with the monumental changes occurring across British society!
I always saw Downton Abbey as the modern day take on Upstairs Downstairs. If you remember that PBS series from the 70's then you can recognize many similarities.

The show is about so much more than family. It's about a world wherein authority, morality, and relations were clear and defined and wherein there was room for change. It is a paradise lost after a fashion. It was a simpeler world. Better to understand and to deal with.
I saw the movie at a sneak peek last week. It's good. It is essentially a long episode of the series, picking up a year or two after the end of season 6. It's worth watching the entire series before seeing a movie. It's not good as a standalone film without all the background that makes you care about the characters' travails.
alffuergregor take a look at the lady dockers Instagram page. Now Michelle Dockery has great style and She’s so beautiful, she would look good wearing a potato sack😊
@@6startrek yes but Laura Carmichael just has something special with clothes. She wears edgy at the moment fashion before it goes mainstream. I have been watching her for a while.
My young daughter was listening to the show in the background while I was watching and she asked “Why do the Americans sound British?” I said “Proper English dear. They spoke proper English back then.”
Finally, I can actually say this is the first time I have enjoyed a segment of The View. All others … not so much. Wonderful story, Downtown Abby, all the cast in addition to Writer, Julian Fellowes absolute perfection.
England has shaped most of the world history for good or bad. It is good to see what motivated them. Service and I assume before this period in world history were slaves. Yes, I think in the UK the interviews are longer. I know they are in town making many press stops, but as you said, make it worth their while to come all the way to the studio!
Hello, I am from Indonesia, I live in Jakarta now I have more understanding about British aristocratic life How the aristocratic title and estate pass to male heir only
@Quaker 2019 No, that is incorrect. The law that was passed just before Prince George's birth was the abolition of male preference primogeniture in terms of succession to the British throne. Now it goes eldest child to eldest child and in order of age between siblings, hence why Princess Charlotte is ahead of Prince Louis in the Line of Succession despite being female. It's important to note though that this law wasn't made retrospectively so all those who were born before the law came into place are still under old rules - for example, The Princess Royal is still behind all 3 of her brothers in the line of succession despite being older than 2 of them and Lady Louise is still behind her brother despite being 4 years older. But the law wasn't changed regarding titles though. They are still inherited eldest son to eldest son. Although some lower/subsidary titles can be inherited by women, most can only be held by males. Regardless of birth order, titles and estates are favoured by the eldest son. If there is no son though, the title passes to the closest male blood relative BUT the eldest daughter of the previous holder can inherit the land and money. If the previous holder had no children at all, the title and estate, along with all the money that estate held, goes to the closest male blood relative. It's not very fair to women but all things come in time and one day things will all be fair between genders. I hope this explained your misconception clearly.
@Quaker 2019 no, I do not think everyone is stupid, there is no need to be so rude. I was simply stating facts there and correcting a common misconception. I didn't mean to appear rude or offend you, and I sincerely apologise if I have. Good day to you.
Although I have followed the Royals all my life I would hesitate to support a production that is based on private moments of recently deceased people. I love history and biography but steer clear of gossip.

Abdul Hadi Yazid. I guess as with anything, in this case Downton Abbey, there seems to eventually come the big "let down" for some.
