I hadn’t bought a helmet in 15 years until I got my LS2 V2 helmets, MX437 and Pioneer, I lucked out and the Pioneer fit great. Tried to buy an HJC before I got the MX437 and it gave me a headache. Too tight at the top. Sent it back and got the red/hi vis MX437.
Are there any helmets that don’t look too big when you put them on? Is there a specification that shows that? Does more thickness mean the helmets gonna look bigger?
I have a Fly Racing Kinetic. Less than $150. It fit my round oval head even though it’s an intermediate oval helmet. It’s hard for me to find a helmet that I can wear for longer periods.
I bought one of these helmets from you and I use your sizing chart and it was way off you guys took it back of course but I'm kind of stuck on what side the top or what you consider the crown of your head mine is wider then the area around the ears so the medium besides chart suggested the helmet only fat on the top of my head wouldn't even attempt to go down. My open-faced autocross helmet is a 2X I think I'm going to go with that size I'd rather be a little loose than not being able to wear it at all
The MSR SC1 has since been replaced with the updated SC2 helmet. You can check out the SC2 here: www.rockymountainatvmc.com/riding-gear/msr-sc2-helmet-p
I only get helmets that I can try on myself. Getting them off the internet never ends up saving up money because shipping costs where I live are exorbitant. Plus it takes a month to get anything. No delivery company has ever been able to get me a package in 3 days. That being said I usually get the cheapest at the store near me. Growing up my family only had old helmets. We were really poor. Pretty much all new helmets feel comfortable in comparison. I still keep my old ones. If someone wants to ride with me it's better than nothing. Can't ask people to spend $200 for an afternoon. Luckily all my friends have the same head size so my newer old helmet (around 5 years) fits them all perfectly. Doesn't fit me at all. Despite being a woman I need a men's large so I got a new one. I'm willing to use a 5 year old helmet, but it gets worrisome after that. The others are pretty much just used for test drives at this point. My dad fixes bikes, but nobody is allowed to drive a bike on our property without wearing a helmet. Old is better than nothing but most people don't think to bring their helmet when picking up their bike after repairs
To be totally honest, there isn't a lot of differences other than the shell shape. Both are poly carbonate shells with EPS liners. I think the 2 series is a great helmet for the price. - Chase
The MSR SC1 is no longer made. But the SC2 is the updated version and is DOT and ECE approved. You can check it out here: www.rockymountainatvmc.com/riding-gear/msr-sc2-helmet-p
All these helmets will leave your head split in a 3/5 bad accident. Trust me boys invest in your helmet. I know not everyone has money but at least $300 range no need for $1,200 helmets. And remember just because a helmet is expensive doesn’t mean it’s the safest. Do your research!
G Mangum I just got a Fox v2 with the liquid inside interior best helmet for the price. Upper medium range helmet. You can get on for $275 or cheaper on closeout if you don’t mind what color. They have the exact same protection as the competition fox v3 helmets. They just not as ventilated or light. But again, you don’t need a comp helmet if you just starting. If you want good ventilation, best protection for price, and a good looking helmet, check out the V2. If you don’t mind spending $550 plus. Check out shoei or airoh.
G Mangum for goggles I have Oakley airbrake MX but you don’t need those they’re pretty pricey but trust me they’re worth it so nice and stylish I got white ones with blue mirrored prizm lens. For boots I have the alpinestars Tech 7s. Also the best boots for the price worn by professional MX racers worldwide. Competition race boots for the best price $375 - $399 after tax. There I just gave you the best gear for price done through weeks of research in 1 paragraph. You’re welcome.
Rocky Mountain ATV MC sorry for replying on this thread, not very RUclips savvy. I’m a beginner not really hoping to spend a ton since I’m just starting out. I do have epilepsy and safety is extremely important to me. Could you recommend some features for me to look for in my search for a helmet? I don’t need any bells and whistles. I realize I’ll probably spend more than the average beginner
Possibly the only retailer whose advice I trust.

I have an Answer AR1. Highly recommended it, a great lid.
Bruh I was about to comment that and I was like hey there’s a guy with the same helmet as me it’s really good for the price
O’Neal one is amazing, most comfortable helmet I have ever worn. Pretty light and the only thing I don’t like is it’s pretty thicc
That's the one I just bought and I got the warhawk geared with it
Also got the oneal the helmet us the most coumfiest helmet the padding is like 3 inch
I have it and the helmet itself is pretty big because of all the padding in the helmet but that just means it will protect you better
Bigger padding means better protection
