Best overview of the south end that I've seen. We used to vacation at the Outrigger every December. This is the best view of it so far. I also really appreciate the markers pointing out where we were in the video.
We are owners at the Tropical Sands Resort! Thank you for showing us our island and the progress that has been going on! Our hearts go out to all those who are still putting their lives on the island back together!
Tremendous amount of progress has been made… I was there at the end of November and I can tell a lot of progress has been made. This place will come back even stronger!
Just got back from fmb. Did two weeks of volunteering on the north end (matanzas) I’m amazed by the resilience of the peeps who are determined to rise back up and restore the island. Heartbroken by determined.
@@CaribbeanCastaways great! I and we send prayers and good tidings to all involved in the rebuild. Two weeks removed from my volunteering, I still can’t forget the experience. Godspeed to all!🙏
Thanks for all the great videos since Hurricane Ian! In this one, you flew right over my old rental house on Palmetto St, not far from where Lahaina Inn got wiped off the map! My beach access was Dakota St, just the other side of the Sandpiper. I lived on FMB Summer 2011-Spring 2014 and I still consider that beach my home! I miss the Mermaid, the Outrigger, Beached Whale, Surf Club, Dolphin Inn (which my friends used to own) and other hangouts--the McDonalds! A co-owner of the Beach Pub graduated high school with my parents! I love the Critsers at Beach Baptist. I miss the Sandpaper, where I was a freelance contributor. My band played Time Square Sunset Celebration, Sunday nights at The Cottage (shout out to Roxie and Johnna), Castaways, Nervous Nellies and so many regional venues (The Dek in the Cape)! My heart is broken...there's just nothing else I can say.
Very sad the loss for so many people. That being said the heart of the people in this country to get up and work so hard to rebuild after tragedy always amazes and humbles me. Fort Myers will come back better and more beautiful then ever thanks to the spirit and attitude of its people.
We stayed in Sunset condo and Creciente, a couple of years ago, before that, Neptune, on the north end. Was looking forward to 3 more months and more, on FMB.
Great video! I have been trying to find one that showed the Outrigger and the Wyndham Garden. We've stayed at both. Was at Outrigger right before Ian hit. I'm so sad it sold, but happy everyone that worked there is safe. Thank you for the great content. Still praying for everyone effected by Ian.
Had stayed at Outrigger a bunch and ate over at Charley's Boathouse. Walked the beach to square area. Always a nice lunch then. Just all over the way it use to be. Was last in area early 2020. Hate to think it could go all corporate? I sure hope someway Mom and Pop's can get back one day.
Thank you for this. We were frequent guests at the Sandpiper Gulf Resort on Fort Myers Beach but never seem to get any clear pictures of that resort. I would love it if you could focus on that resort. Their website states that it is closed with no definite re-opening date.😭
I'm a northerner. My impression is that all the parking lots are empty and the December traffic is very light. They may be coming back but its going to take a decade to be "normal" and maybe another hurricane may come in that time. Best of luck
Thanks so much for the update! I was seeing a lot of Sanibel but was interested in FMB. Although I haven’t been there in many years, I’ve been vacationing there since a baby (I’m 63). At min 13.06 it shows many condos but not alot of vehicles. Is anyone able to return home? Thank you for everything
@@HulaShack1 yes that must be right -- been some years - so many good restaurants around the beach - I even remember the poor old mucky duck that was taken out by the previous hurricaine
Great, thank you, Any chance you could do a fly over from the Punta Razza boat ramp and over to the Marriott, and the boat yard, and the Resort harbor rental buildings. We stayed at the last building of the Resort Harbor rentals.
What would make anyone think it's ok to stay on an island, At Sea Level! With Any hurricane approach? No way I would even consider that an option. Sorry, and I lived several years on Pine Island....
Lots of cleanup done, but still a few places where the garbage is still lurking. Such a horrible job for everybody to tackle. I think this spit of land should never have been built on really it's barely above sea level & obviously just sand. However it doesn't get destroyed by a hurricane every year so people get too confident. I bet the Insurance companies are being real dogs about paying out ! Poor people, for many these were their dream homes. Hoping it will be restored to beautiful eventually, you can see what it once was. I love the tropics but prefer mountanous islands to flat beach like this. Thank you for your video & wishing for you all to get back to normal asap !
Coming from Canada my wife and I love staying at Smugglers Cove condos 48sec. When we visit our daughter. Every year we come sometimes twice but now we hear they are demolishing the unit down.😢 Personally it will never be the same and things will only be more expensive now
The gawkers are terrible. If I am trying to do any work in my yard cars creep by and will stare and take pictures. It's annoying. People will get out of their cars and do selfies as they are walking by our destroyed homes.
beach houses should be made as strong as a boat built for North sea storm waves.. built like boats with no floor penetrations.. built to float in a severe storm.. live in a boat at the beach, built as a boat, put it on stilts too if you want.. your foolin yourself, if you think otherwise.
@@CaribbeanCastaways They do now, they did not used to. 200 years ago before home insurance, if your house was blown away you had to rebuild it yourself. These wacko people dont seem to mind rebuilding their life every 10 years or so.
Months later and not much has changed. Tough times are ahead with economy. The system is on the verge of collapse now. Polar Caps are melting; raising the sea level which will erode Florida's coastline Be cautious of buying fixer uppers around florida's coast. this erosion is only the beginning
What? I just got back from two weeks helping the rebuild. I have family there and by many accounts progress is obvious. Giant projects such as this takes time but little by little brings noticeable results.

It's always so shocking to me that one parcel of land can be obliterated, while right next to it is left almost untouched. These storms are so cruel.

Not sure what condos are doing as far as letting people back in. Might be on a building by building bases. Based on inspection.
Did Charlie browns (opposite the outrigger) come through it ? Outrigger tiki bar used to have nice music sat afternoons

Very true
One thing I noticed is you don’t see any workers or construction going on. What you do see a lot of, I’m assuming, is sightseeing vehicles. So sad.
It’s possible that since the date on this video was January 1, the construction crews had the holiday off.

Why do people live on these coastal areas where you have huge storms. Makes no sense, but I suppose making sense is not a natural human trait.

Voice of reason, but there is little reasoning in Florida. No one will listen even when it hits them in the face and wallet.
