THANKS SO MUCH for this tutorial! Perhaps it’s just me, but I found it much easier to attach the top granny square by making just 4 squares instead of 5 for the circumference of the head. So once you get all 5 together and you put the top piece on. Do you attach all 5 together first to make it a circle? I did not and now I’m joining the top to the 5 in a row and it’s not all the way combined. Does that make sense? I’m just confused.
You cannot knit a granny square as it is a unique thing to crochet. If you wanted something similar I would just knit a simple square - maybe using the fair Isle method to make a pattern on the square and sew them together like how she did.

You could do a pentagon for the top of the hat. It makes it easier to match sides.

You should make the top square with five point. Making the center 15 double crochet. Instead of the 12 double crochet if using five square .
