If you are wondering what I've been up to when not sailing Wave Rover check out my other channel: Rover's Rest: / @roversrest
Thank you and fair winds - Хобби
You must be so excited to be back on the Wave Rover again! I love that you're leaving one Baltimore and sailing to another - so kool!! Great video---I don't understand the technicalities of course but still fascinated and find it all so interesting!! Thanks so much!
It's great symmetry
Fun fact: If your destination has the same name as your origin then you’re legally allowed to skip customs and immigration at your destination. It’s true. A guy at the bar told me that. Why would he lie? 😂
And now it’s also on the internet, so I must be true 👍😂
I heard this to...must be true... 😅
lol. Good to know!
The clever rudder control is Huntingford's Helm Impeder invented by John Huntingford and used by many Dinghy Cruising Association members .
Thank you
Looking forward to seeing you in dublin alan...as always great vids👍
Sounds great Brian
Oh My!
A automatic lashing machine!
lol
All the best Alan! Trim tab refit looks great. Cheers my friend 🍻
It was great that we were able to have a get together before I left PEI my friend
It would be very interesting to see you assemble the other parts of the self steer wind vane. Wish you a safe crossing !
Love the idea of sailing from Baltimore US to the original Baltimore in the Republic of Ireland, having missed you by about 2 weeks in PEI last year, hopefully might get to meet in Baltimore RoI, I know you will enjoy it, it a beautiful part of the country. Bon Voyage.
Sounds great!
Solo transatlantic on your home built boat now that is stepping up the plate! If you cannot take a spare outboard at least take an extra carb, prop, pull cord. Food: Drake Paragon sailing channel is way ahead of most folks with a great system planned out for a variety of healthy food and I bet he'd be glad to share knowledge with you including menus, provisioning techniques, etc. Vacuum sealed containers are the primary technique. Nice video - thanks.
I'll be keeping it pretty simple...Rover style

That tiller lock idea is excellent.
Thanks 👍It was great to have a little get together before I left my friend.
Looking forward to buying you a Guinness 👍. Safe journey..
Can't wait!
If you click on Alan’s channel name on any of his video’s “Sailing Wave Rover” you will be taken to his home page there you will see all of Alan’s uploads. Season 2 episode 90 has more detail of the trim tab and plans available. Another RUclips channel “SV Tapatya “has used Alan’s plans for his trim tab and Tony has some great videos on his build.
Thanks for that
Looks like the shakedown cruise came in handy and showed you what needs to be "tweaked." Love your great detailed work. Thanks for the video.
Everything is just about sorted now.
I would have liked to see you build all those trim tab bearing parts. Cool stuff in this one, thanks.
Another great video! So interesting and informative.
Glad you enjoyed it Ron!
Looking foward to the future. Thank you
Looking forward to getting underway
like the tiller control!
Safe travels across the Atlantic Alan - will be watching your channel throughout your new adventure - a subscriber from western Canada and who travels to PEI often!
A fellow Islander?
@@SailingWaveRover I wish! Our family have been renting a small cabin in Seaview (north of Kensington), for the past 50 years. I'm taking my 90 year old parents there in August. Done some business on the Island and place I always enjoy coming back to.
I will do exactly the same trip next year and its very helpful following your steps! If you need something from Europe, don't hesitate, ask me!
Best from Houston.
Good on you!
Came over to boost the algorithm for you Alan. Have been following the Key bridge cleanup from the Oregon coast and glad you were on the outgoing side when the disaster struck. Take care and best wishes to you and Mrs. Wave Rover for a good week ahead.
Thank you as always my friend
Good on Ya.
I really liked Horta too!
Looking forward to you visiting Baltomore Ireland have a safe passage. Brendan IRL 😊
Thank you my friend
Nice to see how you have been methodically preparing for the Atlantic crossing over the last few months. Looking forward to following your journey from Baltimore US to Baltimore Ireland.
If possible, please share more insights into your strategies and tactics on how to navigate in response to the weather, how to juggle between watch/sleep/deskwork, etc.
All the best.
Will do
Great to see that you are moving forward once again. Would love to see you selected stores list for the voyage. Roger Taylor (Ming Ming ii) used to carry stores for 100 days.
I'll try to include that in a video before leaving
wow 40K Subscribers, That's awesome!
Very awesome videos, Inspirational stuff!
PS:
Emails to CnC Wave Rover plans have gone unanswered, Hope to see an update about that soon :)
I've left this totally in Andy's hands.
It would be interesting to see the boat inside. Could you make boat tour in your next video?
Coming soon
Nice work!
Looking forward to more on the keel mods
Watch the next video.
Ah County Cork Irl! I was there last May we were in Kobh were the Titanic sailed from last you have to visit the museum there ! Lots to see between there and Dublin take your time
I plan to see as much as possible
Roudebush is only a thirty minute drive for me. If I can, I will try to drive by and cast my eyes upon Wave Rover, and if you are there Alan, I will be sure to say Hi!
Charles...worth the trip if you can catch him as he is busy provisioning
It was great to meet you Chuck. Thanks for the help
@@SailingWaveRover Pleasure meeting you Alan. Really enjoyed our talk and seeing Wave Rover in person. Godspeed, fair winds and following seas!
I love having a variable tension tiller clutch, or whatever you call it. Might be more popular if we could agree on a common name for it.
Huntingford tiller tamer 👍
'John Huntingford's Helm Impeder'
@@seanmorris Oh yes 😁
hats off!
Alan, WRII looks great. The MKIII is a solid piece of gear.
Thanks
See you in Dublin.
Sounds good
Wave Rover is looking great.
Would like to know why you prefer lashings over metal fittings for rudder?
Watch the next video.
I used the same tiller control for years. Its a great set up because it allows you to disengage it with a tug of the line. Also you can tension more or to windward in heavier conditions. Great upgradea and will be watching the keel video. Are the lead shoes added to ptovide more ballast down low or simply a protective aapect?
Better stability
Excellent video this week Allan. Elegant solution for the windvane tab. I am curious about the extra ballast on the keeletes, better roll inertia or tack stabillity? Love your content dude and look forward to yor voyages!!🎉🇨🇦🇨🇦
Watch the next video.
You could cut a hole in the side of your keels and pour the lead in. When you poured the lead in originally I calculated the amount of lead and realized the keels are not full. Just an alternative option 🙂🙂🙂🙂
That was an option that I voted for.
The top of your trim tab needs a brace there looks waek
Watch the next video.
Crack On........
Hi Alan safe travels across the Atlantic. How much extra weight per keel are you adding?
105 lbs per keel
Alan, If it's possible to see the Wave Rover 'emblem' on the Quay at Horta, I'd like to see if I can find it on Google Earth. Do you know if it shows?
It might be too small for that.
Why not install hinges on the rudder?
Watch the next video.
I imagine it is all about the currents and winds, but could you explain why you are going to Azores instead of directly to Ireland.
I'll cover that before leaving
when you visiting england?
Haven't made a plan beyond Ireland
Why do you lash the rudder on as opposed using conventional Pintles and Gudgeons?
Watch the next video.
Barnacles could eventually cut through the lacings like a razor?
Repectfully I dont think so. Its a very busy area
Thats an expensive place to provision unfortunately, but cant wait to see the Atlantic crossing, thats some rough water up there in Ireland.
Why rudder lacing over a stainless steel hinges?
Watch the next video.
@@SailingWaveRover I see why you chose lacing now. Cheap, reliable, can replace it anywhere. You can’t do that with stainless!
@@LifeLongLearner222 Exactly
I wouldn't say those string steering hinges are confidence inspiring.
Many ocean voyages have been completed on these, especially the larger Wharram Cats
@SailingWaveRover Well, you know the ropes. Anchors Aweigh.
Why not pintels and gudgions?
Watch the next video.
Question: I may have missed in one of your videos. Have you tested the self-righting of Wave Rover? at different long voyage level provision loading for example?
No real-life test on the self righting. All the elements are in place to self right. Even more so with the added lead to the bottom of the keels...next episode
Bolting led to a steel construction like a keel will set up a brisky galvanic reaction when in salt water. But I guess the boat is not meant to sail for a large number of years.
Not if it is properly isolated which I'm sure Andy the Architect and Alan worked out
@@tomwaite4594 Lead is inert
@QuadyBody Your point? You may want to educate yourself in modern maritime dissimilar isolation principles and practices for a better understanding.
@@tomwaite4594 Sorry for my bad choice of words. My point it that it is not a huge difficulty to bolt lead to a steel keel structure. Just done it on my Setka as have hundreds of other Setka and Globe 5.8 builders. Never had a problem on the many lead and cast iron keels I have made and installed over the last 45 years. Look forward to meeting you when you arrive in Horta (where I live). I love educating myself and will try to do it till the day I die. Trying to master aluminum tig welding at the moment while building my little 5m Setka for the Atlantic Challenge next year. Will you have an Inreach or yellow brick tracker for your trans atlantic so we can follow your progress? Good Luck
