    The rudder does appear to have dropped a slight bit, the lashings are angled on the rudder compared to the lashings on the skeg, also the rudder is lower than the skeg and i doubt that would've been designed like that as the skeg is supposed to protect the rudder and in the event of hitting something the skeg takes the blow. But as your rudder is set up if you hit something it will slide along the bottom of the skeg then come into contact with the rudder and that is far from ideal

    Just a tip on cutting the tails off zip ties, side cutters leave a sharp tab that can cut you. A better way is to use a razor blade or a sharp Olfa knife to cut the tab off flush to the locking end. Have a great trip down the Chesapeake, will you be stopping in St. Michaels?

    • @SailingWaveRover

      Yes, I will sort that out with the zip ties. I'm not sure about all the stops just yet

    I like the hatch. The only change I'd make is to move the catches down an inch or so lower so it's tighter on the rubber latches. A rush of water from behind will push it up and pour into the cabin. I'm sure most of the time you don't need the latches at all but when seas are up it's nice to really cinch down that hatch. Anyway, it's way better than the classic leaky sliding companionway hatches!

    I've just started bouncing around your videos as I research the start of my boating adventure. I want to sail into the South Pacific (currently in Ireland) and looking to buy something a little bigger than Wave Rover, though I still speak from pure ignorance so could end up with a smaller boat altogether, either way until I landed here I was convinced I couldn't do it comfortably, safely or on any budget that let me keep all my organs but you've inspired me with your design ideas and modifications to broaden and refine my perspectives dramatically. I look forward to following your journey to our beautiful (wet) little island!
    One question about the little rope trick for the rudder, if you happen to read this and have the time, is that some specific material or marine rope? Do you think it would work on a rudder for a 38 to 42 foot boat? These are exactly the kind of cheap repairs and tricks I'll need when I'm out on my own.

    • @SailingWaveRover
      @SailingWaveRover  22 дня назад +2

    Tip from technical diving for trimming zip ties. If you use nail clippers you can round them off instead of leaving sharp edges. They can be left really sharp and be annoying if you you get caught leaning past them. Anyway maybe one for next time

    I'm curious ... what was the draft of the boat before adding the lead to the bottom of the keels? What is it now with the new additions to the keels. I was surprised that you did not add anything to the skeg -- after all the point of the bilge keels was to be able to dry her out anywhere. By the looks of the video there is now a significant difference in height between the bottom of the skeg and the bottom of the keels -- if you were to dry her out it looks like she would be "popping a wheely"!!!
