If you are wondering what I've been up to when not sailing Wave Rover check out my other channel: Rover's Rest: / @roversrest
Thank you and fair winds - Хобби
Alan, you look younger by the day. Sailing is the best tonic! You need a mustang suit. I’ll pledge $100 towards it. Who else is game on getting him some real foul weather gear?
Mustang is capitalized...see at West Marine..then compare at ...
The sweetest sound is the water lapping the hull when under sail. 😊
The wave rover story gets better and better.
My first boat build was a 35’ Wharram cat. I was 31, single and very energetic lol. Had it actually sailing in about six months time.
Now I’m 63, married, sorta energetic and it’s taking years to finish my JR conversion
I know. I was so energetic when I was younger but I still feel that I can put in a respectable day.
Thanks for bringing us along 🎉
You bet!
Two wonderful sounds aboard.
The silence when the engine is switched off.
The sound of the engine starting when you sense danger and need it.
Keep cool Allen.
gary in Japan
Great content Alan, just what I needed to settle down with a coffee this evening as I hang blinds in the bedroom.
Enjoy!
Hi Alan been watching you a couple of years now and you are inspiring. It seems almost spooky that the bridge you crossed under could be destroyed so tragically. I hope you are OK and able to continue with your adventures.
Thank you. It seems unreal.
Alan, you released this video from November just 4 days before the FSK bridge was destroyed. I hope you are now out of the area and safe. Prayers for all impacted.
Yes, prayers for all those involved.
thx
Alan I hope you are okay and safe! I can’t believe the Frances Scott Key’s bridge collapse so near to Wave Rover II… I hope they fine more survivors and I pray for the families of those who are lost 😞
This video is from November.
Thank you Kirby for your concern. Both WR and I are fine and will be underway again in a few weeks.
It would be nice to see the stamp print. Great gift idea!
Returning to this video after the crash. I thought I had seen that bridge and you traveling under. Remarkable circumstances. Horrific for those involved, and thier families.😢
It's hard to imagine. Thoughts and prayers to those involved
Waking up to the Key Bridge news here in UK this morning. I knew id heard of it somewhere so came back to check.
Tragic in so many ways
Hey, you’re local to me. That’s pretty wild.
Hey skipper. I saw the tee shirt before and now there's the Maritime Marine hat! 😊 Good luck b'y.
Hello Alan Mar 26 today. Taking note of the tragedy of the Frances Scott Kee bridge that you sailed under to get to the "Junket" event i hope that you are a safe distance south now and are not "trapped" inside the harbour with no way out Tom in the Maritimes at the NB-NS border. Have a nice day.
All's well. Thank you. I'm in the area but on the right side of the bridge collapse.
Great to see you Alan😁just thinking of you as I watch a video of the USS New Jersey being moved from Camden to Philadelphia Navy Yard. Quite a spectacle👍What a gift you got , so cool💯hope the weather gets a little better for you soon👍be safe and have fun until next time! Appreciate your sharing of your journey/adventure💯👍😁🙏
Thanks as always Curtis
The first time Bridge delay was the cause of the second crossing delayv😂😂😂😂
Could you show the stamp please perhaps you could sign into other boats log books. Funny on the bear and pump out we have herd that argument in the body. i had a friend that always wanted to be a swing bridge operator and the operator looks at people like you and says " I want his job" Thanks stay safe
I live in Sydney and occasionally I request the spit bridge to open...I always feel a bit guilty holding up hundreds of cars with people coming back from work when I'm just cruising...😅
I know what you mean. Better to be in the boat than in the car I would say
Oh my lord!! ..sailing in the rain!!
And it was cold!
It’s March 21st 2024 today. You mention it was November 9th in this video. Did it really take you 4months to make?
I’m up to date with all your videos having watched them all including the Rovers Rest ones. Very enjoyable.
Glenda must be a saint to put up with all your peregrinations!
Kind regards,
Harry (in Cumbria UK)
I was wondering the same thing
Looks like you got out of the bay just in time to avoid that bridge collapse
Wow, quite the news on the Francis Scott Key bridge, eh?
Unbelievable.
I envy you we dont have any bays to speak of here it looks amazing!
It's a great sailing ground
I love bridges--love driving on them, love sailing under them and love looking at them! You're sure getting to see a lot of different ones on your adventure. That stamp is really neat!! Brrrr looking cold on the water - you're tough lol
Thanks so much Linda.
Hmm, seems to me that junket was a while ago now. Pete and his wife must have left some time ago if I recall right. Maybe not, I did recall seeing an invite to a new england junket in september but reading Kokachin's blog shows closer to Christmas so not the same event I guess. I look forward to seeing some more video and pictures next week.
I watch a lot of youtube videos about nomads and they use solar panels to run their small refrigerators and heaters. I thought that might be an idea for you on the boat.
Thanks. I have only 300 watts of solar panels but they are dedicated for nav and safety systems.
Alan - tragic news out of Baltimore. I hope you’re safe and not stuck on the Baltimore side of the bridge which has collapsed.
As luck would have it, we are on the Bear Creek side of the bridge. We will be getting underway again in a few weeks
@@SailingWaveRover yikes. So on the wrong side judging by where I see you on the map. Baltimore has a great harbor with a WWII submarine you can tour. You probably already know this. But just in case, its a cool site to see if you’re ever bored. 🙂
@@Jolie_sailorthat's something I would enjoy. I spent 5 days submerged on a Cdn submarine back in the 1986 whilst in the Cdn Navy
@@SailingWaveRover That's an amazing experience. Maybe one day you'll talk about it in your channel.
Bet you'll never forget Bear Creek Bridge.
lol
You should title your last couple if videos “The Bridges of Baltimore County”
Isn't that the bridge that just collapsed at (at time 8:18)? (Francis Scott Key Bridge?)
I read this comment before hearing the news of the collapse.
I remember hearing that you were going to Baltimore. Are you ok?
I'm fine and so is WR. Thank you
Did you say November 9th?
Have you ever seen a sailboat with its black cone pointing downwards as it sails under engine power with its sails set?
🤔🤣¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Day shapes are the my favorite part of the regs that are completely ignored by everyone.
I used to get tested monthly when I was going to sea with the Navy but you remind me that I need to do a little review every now and then
Does it cost money when they open the bridge? Is it possible to get it opened 24 hours a day?
It's free to request an opening . Some bridges restrict the times.
Bridge operators ought to be held accountable.
Mini globe race 2025?
lol, they wouldn't allow WR, too big. Besides, I'm not really into organized events or racing but I expect this will be the story of attrition rather than racing.
WHERE is Wave Rover today?
AIS position data reported on tracking websites has not updated in over four months! Last reported ping still in Baltimore...
She will be getting underway again in a few weeks
Videos so far behind real time
Who cares?
Of course they are. Rule of thumb it takes an hour's editing for every minute of video. So that 15 min video might have taken a couple of full days. When he's sailing, he wants to be sailing, not wasting a good wind sitting in harbour editing. And we all want a nice stream of videos through the year. If you insist on the vids being up to the minute, then you'll have nothing outside the sailing season, and precious little in it.
