THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! This video was easy to follow, and you showed each cut clearly. I am a novice at carving, and I usually carve spoons. I just started playing around with figure carving. It has been a struggle. Your video made it soooo much easier to figure out. I have your "Vintage Santa" pattern book too. Thank you for giving me a reason to keep figure carving, because I was about to give up! :) Take care and stay safe!
Very good. It's too bad so many carving tutorials on YT begin by saying, "on your band saw ..." Not everyone has a band saw, and most beginners don't. I always try to find excellent tutorials like this one and Doug Linker's and Gene Messer's that just whittle from a block of wood. But this one is excellent. Carving eyes are so difficult for me, but I just blame the knife :).
Thanks Scott for the info. Ya know dull tools will almost make a woodcarver stop carving. I'm having that problem. I think I got them sharp then find out they are more dull.
I think this was a tutorial on just the basic face. He didn't intend to carve the hat this time. I followed along on this one once and ended up carving the world's tiniest beret on the top of the head just to finish it off.... :)
