    To sound like Hendrix, it doesn't have to be a cheap strat. It could be a cheap alternative, Something like a low end Yamaha Pacifica would have worked and stayed in tune.

    One of the most important and overlooked part of Jimi’s tone was that he ran an extremely high capacitance cable (around 3000pF total) into the original unbuffered wah pedal with around a 68k ohms input impedance, which put the resonant frequency and Q values of his pickups down into hot humbucker territory. That 3k pF + 2.5 Henry inductance from the strat pickup is roughly equivalent to an 8 Henry pickup into a modern buffered input (but with a slightly higher Q).

  • @davids9192
    @davids9192 6 лет назад +1

    For most on here you could give them Jimi’s original Strat, 3 x 100 Marshall stacks and an Afro wig and they would still sound like themselves. It’s the mark of an excellent guitarist such as Rabea that can get a tune out of any old guitar, regardless of price. Plenty of stuff on RUclips from players extracting incredible performances from Squier Bullets.

  • @robholiday5370
    @robholiday5370 6 лет назад +14

    Admirable effort fellas, but tbh I think the £500 limit is just too restricting to get any variety or a good enough sound. For the first time, this really did just sound like a cheap rig imo.

    • @maximusindicusoblivious180
      @maximusindicusoblivious180 6 лет назад

      Rob Holiday I agree with you Rob. When did it become the trend to sell cheap crap to musicians? Andertons in England and Guitar Center in America. It use to be a time when you would save up a lot to get a good guitar and spend years to play it to get a good sound. Now you can buy cheap horrible sounding shit and for what, for people to laugh at you? Take that horrible sounding piece of shit guitar that sounds like a rat squeezing through a piss hole and give me that guy's chops for £500 and we will call it even.

    • @JohannesJ7539
      @JohannesJ7539 6 лет назад +4

      Rob Holiday Maybe they're trying to reach out to young players looking for a specific sound. 500£ is around 10,000 pesos to me, thats a lot here in Mexico. And since things here have a nasty import rate most cheap stuff is mis range here.

    • @maximusindicusoblivious180
      @maximusindicusoblivious180 6 лет назад +5

      Necro wolfgang Hey you know your right. Everybody can't afford top gear. I stand corrected. I did not mean any offense to anyone that cannot afford good sounding gear.

    • @robholiday5370
      @robholiday5370 6 лет назад

      Necro wolfgang Quite possibly. I have no problem with them promoting cheaper gear, I just don't think this series really works for it with the prices now. It's simply too repetitive. The £1,500 budget even struggles for amp options now, the £500 is almost the very same rig each time; cheap Strat/LP alike + Katana.
      I also think beginners are better served not focussing on nailing a player's tones, but looking more at the techniques.

  • @ricklaurencem.regonda8507
    @ricklaurencem.regonda8507 6 лет назад

    in the Philippines, if you have £500 budget for gear, you'll be golden. I myself is a rockin a £100 indonesian made guitar and a very very old cable. 1 shredhead Preamp and straight to the Amp. and we rely on Amps provided at events. and some guitarists complain for their gear for pointless reasons. the main point is appreciate what you have and make something out of it :) great video as always.

  • @ktulu193
    @ktulu193 6 лет назад +5

    It sounds a bit bass heavy, but maybe that's adjustable on the amp. Sounds good for 500 quid, though!

  • @iPhoneeditor

    Also if any rig seems to not quite cut it and you have a bit of budget left you can supplement just about any rig with an EQ pedal and make any rig more versatile.

    • @pedreiroelegante6563
      @pedreiroelegante6563 6 лет назад +1

      William Allison There is also the US$2.000 Adrian San Dimas, or the old Dave's signature ( H S H). The new US$1.000 Dave signature is Made in Mexico, but I think it still is awesome.

    • @KeeperOfPoops
      @KeeperOfPoops 6 лет назад

      @Pedreiro Elegante oh yeah i forgot about Adrian's high end version of his SDX Jackson, it definately blows the cheap £400 version out of the water!
      and i don't think they stock the classic dave murray strat with double humbucker and a single coil with the regular bar, but the triple humbucker and floyd rose is a definate!
      for amps it's gonna be Victory V100 which dave uses now and Marshall for Adrian
      get a flanger/phaser for the intro of number of the beast cos there is a quick sound of one of them from dave there, plus a full size wah, a chorus, a delay and a reverb pedal if neccecary
      Adrian also uses a wah and his wah he uses now sounds very similar to the Zakk Wylde wah (it might even be it lol) still maybe a wah for him too, idk
      and hopefully a steve harris bass rig cos it's always best for a bass rig thrown in if you're doing classic iron maiden over modern iron maiden with Janick Gers who took over for adrian back in the day when adrian left

    • @pedreiroelegante6563

      Hard to find a bargain for those. Even the Epiphone version of the Gibson EDS-1275 double-neck Don is using live costs £1000. Don then has it set up with separate outputs for each neck with the 12-string going into a rotary amp/speaker and the 6-string into a tweed or blackface of some sort. You can do it with one amp and some effects, but not for much less than £1500. I occasionally play this song and use a Dean SG-style double-neck through a Kemper with separate settings for the clean 12-string and the moderately distorted 6-string.

    Surprised you didn't use a Marshall Code. Then all you would need was a wah pedal. Katana is nice but for a Marshall sound the Code is better. I realize you just used the Code recently but a artist known for the Marshall sound the obvious choice imo would have been the Code.

    • @antmax
      @antmax 6 лет назад

      Yeah, the CODE50 is a bit boomy like the speaker is trying to sound bigger than it is, but partly because of that it will do classic Hendrix with the built in effects. It's the kind of tone it does best.

      @KeeperOfPoops 6 лет назад +1

      well last time they couldn't find a V so they had to use a Custom Les Paul so this time they could get a Gibson V
      for amps it'll be either the Marshall JCM or the JTM
      an MXR Distortion +, MXR Stereo Chrous, MXR Flanger, an EQ, an Octave pedal for Over The Mountain's guitar solo and the wah

    • @Basilis-yy9go
      @Basilis-yy9go 6 лет назад

      Hmm not bad think on the pedals and the amps but I think not a Gibson V I prefer the les Paul because he was using a les paul custom☺☺ By the way what you have to say about the previous les paul custom on the WITHOUT BUSTING THE BANK( sound, quality ).

    'Sound like Tom Morello without busting'.
    For Morello, multieffect with pedal + expression pedal might be the way to go to keep it under 500 pounds - and it would show something new and unique compared to the same old 'Guitar + Combo + 1-2 stompboxes' routine, namely a two-pedal setup you could play through any headphones or PA.
    Still a nice video, keep it up!

      i know Syn has a signature model guitar but it's too expensive, they could try for a guitar with a sustainer if possible but if not a schecter with a floyd rose and seymour duncans, his signature Hellwin amp to me looks like a Marshall JVM and because they won't use marshall anymore it's gonna be either boss katana or egnater tweaker or maybe fender bass breaker, fx he uses a wah for the solo in requiem so get that, mayb some delay, an octave for the Planets Solo and perhaps a harmonist
      for Zacky he too has a signature schecter but too much money, i think something with double humbuckers like an SG, for amps he has Jet City but andertons ain't got them so i think either Boss Katana, Egnater Tweaker or maybe Fender Bassbreaker, for fx it just needs to be a chorus for bat country's clean part and a overdrive
