I am a 71 year old woman whose light switch went out. Couldn't get a response from my electrician. Watched your video, went to Lowe's and bought me a switch, and it took about 5 minutes to install and saved lots of money. Thanks.
Going to try to do mine as well. My lamp is very dim when i plug it into the outlet that is controlled by the light switch. Works just fine in other sockets. So I'm going to replace the light switch and outlet. Hopefully that will fix the problem.
If someone like you, who has been alive for 71 years and speaking English for probably about 68 of those years. Yet still lacks the intelligence, perceptiveness, and self awareness to comprehend elementary English and says things like "bought me a switch". Truly anybody is capable of replacing a light switch. You did it your very first time, in comparison to speaking, hearing, and reading the English language for countless hours over decades as a primary means of communication.
Thank you thank you! Widowed 3 years ago and try and do everything hubby used to do (can’t afford an electrician if I want to eat this week!). Your video is more valuable than you really know. I can do this with your clear instructions, great visual and humor. I appreciate you!
Great video. I knew how to do this but needed a quick refresher. One advice that I learned from a master electrician friend I had who passed from Covid is that always, always, always, use your tester on a switch that still has power to confirm the device is working properly. There has many been many times where even electricians get shocked because the tester was dead or not working and zap!!!
This video was super helpful! I was able to replace my wall switch easily and safely. And the narrator of the video had me in stitches!!! Great job guys!
Thanks for a very informative video. Off to Home Depot for a new switch. My first time working with electricity, kind of nervous, but with these easy instructions, I can do this!!
Ohhhhh my goodness. I was not expecting this topic to be funny or entertaining. This was fantastic. I watched it way longer than I needed to (after deciding I didn’t want to risk ending things on a beautiful sunny day).
Great video. The only thing I would add is when you are scewing in the ground wire, always wrap the wire around the right as the screw is turning to your right. when you wrap the wire around the left of the ground screw as you are tightening the screw to your right as you can see the wire is opening as you are turning the ground screw.
I was feeling really frustrated that I had to replace my light switch, but this video made my night. Worth the frustration of an old house if I get to watch more of these 🤣
Thanks so much for teaching me this simple DYI. I've been married to a finish carpenter for 37 years. Bless his heart but the new switch has been sitting in the drawer for months... You know the old saying "The shoemakers kids are always barefoot"....😂
Thank you so much for including that first step! I always forget this one. Last time I tried to do a diy project some guy came in yelling “get out of my house!” and “don’t replace my floor with sand!” Some people have no taste.
Where I come from the light turns on when you flip the switch up but this was helpful I have to do this for my new place and now I have to watch a video about the sockets. I got a smoke dungeon that I’ve washed up and painted and fumigated and I’m putting in a new water heater and furnace and ducts and then I’m going to sell it and get a newer home. Flip a da flop. I’ve done all the work myself. Ripping up rugs and putting down new flooring and painting and landscaping and I’m almost to the part where I switch the old switches and sockets out to help it look newer on the inside. So far so good.
Great, hilarious vid. One piece of feedback though, the ground wire hook is going counter-clockwise which opens it up when you tighten down the screw. Switching it up the other way is a bit better normally. Anyway, keep up the great work!
Well I don't believe the 500 year old person, but that was funny! I am 80 and am doing a lot of repairs my self so like the 71 year old I went to Lowe's and picked up a replacement switch. Watched your video and did it my self said the "Little Red Hen"! Thank you.
This was very helpful and also very funny. I was feeling grouchy about how to figure this out for myself. And this inspired me and made me laugh. I have 2 different switches. One of them is just a wire jammed in and I don't see it attached to a screw.. Do I just pull really hard? Thank you
Really enjoy these videos. They're honestly some of the most helpful DIY videos I've found, and good for a laugh when working on something that's making me want to tear my beard out. Helped my project and sanity on multiple occasions now.
That's a two-way switch they are most common in hallways, they have a neutral wire and a Black, single pole light switches have 2 black live wires, and the neutral wire is constant meaning it's capped and completing the circuit so be careful when you watch, a little heads-up Warning ⚠️.
I'm a 10,000 year old divorced grandfather who doesn't know how to do anything, literally anything, I don't even know how I'm writing this, and I watched your video and fixed my switch.
I have had a weird issue over the years that most of my switches have failed due to the fact the plastic back cracks, always at the top of the switch, then the toggle makes an arc noise or light switch just moves freely up and down. I have went though every switch I have and replaced them; probably 60% of all were cracked at the top. I would guess this is a common issue that most people do not know about. My tip is if the switch toggles up and down loosely or you hear a noise, like a popping or arcing sound when moving switch, check it out by removing the cover. if the switch is cracked you will clearly see it.
Can you do a video on how to install a hanging pod tent into a ceiling joist in a room? Usually they are outside but you can install inside for kids and reading nooks. I love your videos!

I am doing the same and I am 68😊
Doing the same and I'm 42

Thank you so much. Had no idea that a 50 year old switch could fail. You know your stuff!
I've been doing my own amateur electrical repairs for 45 years, but I learned several things from this terrific video. Thanks!
This is THE MOST VALUABLE VIDEO I never thought I needed in my life because I VALUE my life.

Only thing I can say, I always do switches to turn on up not down. Other than that, this is - Perfect!
Thank you so much I never replace a light switch in my entire life but thanks to you for making this happen ❤
Great instructions and hysterical commentary! You are my favorite!
Yay, thank you!😊❤👍
