As a former Deputy 99.7% of the time "stolen" guns from vehicles were from UNLOCKED vehicles. Not from smashed windows. Please carry, and please lock your vehicle doors.
I don't lock my doors because I can't. Lost the keys far from home and had to drill the ignition. I avoid places I'm not able to carry

You can't lock cars anymore. There are keys you can buy online that effectively acts as master keys for all electronic locks.
How long does it take to become a sheriff?
People aren’t using those keys to break in and steal property out of the vehicle, they use them to steal the car in its entirety. And they aren’t universal they work for a few cars that should’ve been recalled due to having an alarm system that could be easily compromised.
Agree 100% on all the gun bumper stickers etc. I love guns, guns are a big part of my life, also like 5 people in my world know that I have guns. Advertising it is pretty idiotic.

My dad told me stickers on my car can make the resale value decrease. I never knew if that was true or not, but I definitely don't want someone knowing who I am by my bumper stickers.
When I was a kid I remember the cowboy high school kids parking their pick up trucks with their "going into town" rifle hanging on their rear window rack in the high school parking lot. Nobody batted an eye.
I just turned 37 and even I can remember that. I was raised mostly in the south, southwest, and Appalachia though. O.o

We used to have our hunting rifles in the back window of our trucks in high school for hunting after school was never a problem in Washington state crap not now they would call police on you as soon as they could say you were pointing it at them and red flag laws would come in to affect trust me it’s been done a lot we have a bunch. Bunch of people who love to have that power over you
That was the legal requirement of the time in my state. A long gun either had to be in plain view, or locked up with ammo that was stored separately.
Yep! Grew up in the northern Plains. Male teachers would even come out to look at a new rifle or shotgun if one of us had one. Not to confiscate but to admire it.
I did a demonstration speech in 8th grade on cleaning the Ruger 10/22.

I’ve been a gun guy since I was a kid. Grew up shooting, even worked at my local gun shop for a few years. I have been carrying since I was 21 and I have NEVER made it obvious to anyone that I am a “gun guy.” I highly doubt anyone would look at me and think, “that guy has a pistol, spare mag, tourniquet, pepper spray, and knife on him.” I wear fairly fitted clothes too, but investing in a good carry rig and staying in shape goes a long way. My car has a hidden compartment that I keep a gun, but it also doesn’t look like a “gun guy’s” car

Black padded uhaul style shipping blankets work well as truck gear, many many uses, and unbelievable warm if needed.
i have one on harbor freight moving blankets in my car every winter
For surviving the cold a good wool military surplus blanket can be a life saver. Moving blanket works in a pinch too, but there is no replacement for wool.
@Remington Steel any color moving/padding blanket. A lot of people say the yellow or orange are better; in the case of an accident you can be high vis and warm or you can use it as a better signal for traffic
Ive been keeping a 16" AR10 (and body armor) behind the back seat of my truck since the Furguson riots. This stuff gets real when it happens a couple hours from where you live.
I'm from Middle of the Desert, Wyoming. Definitely no shortage of gun racks in trucks out here.

When I was a teen, a truck gun might have been one you put on a rifle rack in your pickup. They were out in plain sight to brag you were a hunter. They often had a .30-06.

When I was kid lots of the pickups parked at our area high schools had rifles and or shotguns in the back window mounted on racks. I doubt that’s the case nowadays. I really wouldn’t know because it’s been decades since I’ve been anywhere near a high school parking lot. I am referring to Idaho and it may have been a completely different situation other places.

That was the very end of an era where if the cops caught young guys with beer or liquor, they might just confiscate it and tell you to get your ass home and to be careful on the drive home.

Times have changed and not for the better.
I EDC and have for almost 40 years but with the atmosphere out there lately I have a truck gun handy in my vehicle. It's a long gun and it was easier to hide than might be suspected. That being said I had a choice of a lever action rifle or a shotgun. Well, the shotgun got the nod because of the legal problems of an engagements over 50 feet away and the range of a rifle in a urban environment so my Mossberg 590 with a 18.5" plain barrel with a full length tube mag of #4 buck and a 6 shot sidesaddle with slugs goes with me wherever. It's a sad state of affairs and a really poor comment on our Country that we have to resort to these measures but I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
There are not any legal problems in a fire fight, that BS goes right out the window. If youre being shot at, and want to live, you need the right tool for the job. You need to be able to put down a threat in a hurry. In your case, well pray your attacker is closer than 20 yards,in which case youll probably die anyway.

Only thing truck guns are good for is getting stolen. I’ve been carrying truck guns for 15 years and I’ve never used it for it’s intended purpose and have had 2 stolen.. doesn’t matter if it’s concealed in the vehicle or not, these thieves can get in your vehicle rip completely through it and be gone on like 2 minutes..

To each his own. I've never felt the need to EDC or to have a 'truck gun' though if that's what someone wants to do I don't have an issue with it. Yeah, I know you can't predict the future & you never know what could happen but the odds are that most people will never be in a situation where they'll need to resort to using a firearm in public.
I was in the unfortunate self defense shooting in which I deployed my “truck” gun and terminated the threat. One piece of advice I can give is what ever firearms you have/use along with gear in any given situation(when it’s within the lawful use) all that stuff will be taken from you and stay in a evidence locker for a year or more(in my case).
Factual. I had to dispatch a would be armed robber at a Waffle House in GA 10ish years ago. I got my Glock 23 back after about a year and a half.

For me, it depends on the area, in rural Georgia, I find a certain comfort in seeing trucks full of gun stickers. It makes me feel like we still have hope. But once I’m in Atlanta , I’m not driving around with Daniel defense stickers.

Matt from Demolition Ranch should have been a guest on this episode. He has an F350 and all the world knows he is a gun enthusiast and he carries his rifles in his truck. His truck got broken into, via the flaw in the door handle, and they took his laptop and a few other things but apparently they did not take his hidden rifle because it was hidden and the thief didn't know whose truck it was until they probably looked as his laptop.

After purchasing a new truck, I immediately installed a Lock-R-Down gun vault. I work in and around Atlanta. And its a great peace of mind, knowing my gun (& stuff) is secure when left in the vehicle. They make rifle boxes too!
I keep looking for a small gun cabinet or similar that I could bolt to the floor in the back of my SUV.

Could probably have mentioned "secure your crap" in the event your vehicle rolls over or your're in a crash. If its just laying in the back, it could be a projectile toward your head.
the other thing is what if you're incapacitated and it's just there... at least if it's on your body, it will hopefully stay there and anyone who finds it will hopefully be trying to render aid and wouldn't take it or harm you with it
I use to keep mine under my center console. I got into a wreck a few months ago from a mustang losing control in a race and i had to be cut out of my truck and life flighted. Somehow they found my guns and brought it to my house after i got out of the hospital and it had mud on it. Soo I’m assuming it might have flown out of the truck. My truck didn’t roll btw.

I know someone who lost a leg because there was a hatchet in the back seat. He got in a head on collision and it came through the gap in the seat and got his femoral artery.

When I was working at a car dealership. I think I came across a gun in a customers car about once every 2 -3 months. Sometimes twice a week. And some of them had the stickers advertising the fact.
The "this vehicle is protected by glock" decal I bet. Some people just have no common sense.
When I hear someone say "truck gun" I think of a mistreated poorly stored pistol that any tweaker can steal from you.
Yeah apparently the number one way firearms are stolen is from vehicles lol.

2:13 That is what my friends make fun of me with. I drive a Subaru Outback and the only sticker on my car is for an animal shelter my daughter works at. My hippie lesbian station wagon has the perfect size trunk for rifles and with just some minor modding you can hide a lot in it. My car would be the last one broken into at the gun range, and I want to keep it that way.

Serious note - how good are the Ruger American 16" Bushmasters?? Awesome things, especially with that howitzer-style muzzle brake haha.
I use an 11.5” AR and bought a backpack that has a dedicated rifle sleeve that will accommodate up to 36” rifle. It’s stocked with all kinds of goodies. First aid, mags, clothes, food, large knife, water filter, etc.
This is for a worst case scenario where I have to pack the gun and walk. Accident, breakdown, riot, or any other unknown reason.

Excellent point. Sadly, it’s what many people don’t realize. The school shooting disasters in the past couple decades are a result of unchecked mental illness, has little to do with actual guns.

Some of my churchgoing friends attend their respective services accordingly and if they bless me as their religion dictates, I simply return the gesture and we get on with things. I don't have ill will to anyone who wishes well on his fellow man and I truly hope those beings are blessed likewise.

I keep all of my guns in my conversion van. Its a 1986 ford converted by good times vans. 4x4 with a supercharged 351, 300 gallons of fuel, interior lined with 9 layers of kevlar, and run flat tires. There are two solenoid operated AKs under each bumper and flame throwers mounted under both the drivers and drinkers side doors.
There is a coexist bumper sticker on the back.

Plus one for a blow out kit. My brother in law was saved from bleeding out after a freeway motorcycle crash (not his fault) by a passerby (nurse in training) who applied a tourniquet to his severed leg.
You're right aboutthe times. When I was in school at least 75% of us had guns in gun rack at all times.
The times have definitely changed, where grew up every truck you saw had a gun rack in the back window with a shotgun and some old lever action year round, haven't seen that in atleast 10 years

Good video y'all, good points about security in general. I dont like leaving a gun in my vehicle, but on long trips across the US I do have a good marlin 94 for general purpose use. Out of sight mind you. It is easy to load due to storing it unloaded.
On your topic of blankets, in the midwest, especially in winter, it's always a good idea to have some blankets, high calorie snack bars, water, and some basic first aid incase you get stuck a ways from society... could be a day until people get to you. Sometimes these things are more important than having a gun.

I would strongly advise carrying a few long-burn candles as well (cold weather emergency kit in your car). A simple candle may surprise you with how well it can heat a small space (be it inside a small tent or inside the cab of a truck or car).

Marlin was recently purchased by Ruger, and new lever-action Marlins are expected early next year.

I can remember gun racks in truck rear windows .If you were to drive around most communities nowadays with 4 ARs racked up in the back for the world to see....the reaction from some folks would be hilarious to watch. They would also be stolen after a couple days.
I know here in ohio I've never seen that yet but I remember being in Texas in 2009 and it seemed like every other truck had a gun rack haha haven't been back since so I don't know what it's like now

Grey man principle applies here. No stickers or any other crap on my car. I drive a silver nondescript crossover. My vehicle gun is a 10.5 Aero Precision kiss build with a light, sling & irons. It & a bandolier with 3 extra mags are kept in a Wilson tennis racket bag. Medical is in a separate container secured in the back.
Not so grey anymore ....

When I delivered pizzas it was Kimber micro in the center storage and Mossberg 500 in the trunk. Now just my EDC.
As an owner of a Jeep with a soft top, I’m used to coming up with unique ways of hiding valuables. I really like the granny blanket idea though!
Every so often I will pick a few of them up at a thrift store. I look for ones that could have been made by someone's actual grandmother.
Another great place to get such things are penny socials or turkey parties or Christmas parties at your local fire station or wherever such events are held.
My grandfather was a volunteer firefighter for 42 years and my grandmother, of course, was on the Ladies Auxiliary. It was always nice to help them set things up and tear things down at the events throughout the year, plus the raffles are always exciting.
Another unique bonus to be had from all this is all the different amazing food they would make, as well as all the recipes that they often got from their grandmothers or great great grandmothers from 100 years prior. I've got one large Rolodex full of what I call "Firehouse Recipes", that I've gathered from such events throughout my area.
I would love to sit ,have a few beers and talk guns with these guys.

Pistols are for horseback, because a rifle scabbard can be a pain in the @ss and not worth it unless it's actually hunting season.
I've killed deer and one elk with pistols but much prefer a rifle for that job.
I tend to agree. I think a handgun gives most people enough standoff capability for most situations. I wouldn't have another firearm in the vehicle unless I could take it with me every time I left the vehicle. Last time I checked, they still take the whole vehicle some times. I'd be willing if it were just having to put it in and take it out every time I come and go from the house, but obviously that doesn't work for all points in-between, and what if you have car trouble or something?

I live in an extremely high trust area of rural Maine, but I work in a decent sized city about 20 minutes away. I drove an older vehicle (2003), with minor rust and no stickers.
I dress in jeans and work boots every day, Carhartt jacket in the winter, and I am unnoticeable. Its insane how much I blend in. I literally cannot be picked out of a crowd here or in my town, its kinda crazy.
BUT
Ive always got a full sized handgun in that jacket. There is a disassembled AR that lives in a false compartment in my car. Its been 4 years, and I have yet to have a problem. Ive had to use it twice on feral animals in my town, but ive never had any issues. Just a thank you from the animal control officer.
Pro tips
-always park in front of a security camera. Whether its in sight of an ATM or a gas station, make sure they can see you
-domt drive a foashy or even remotely new car
-punch a hole in your muffler so the crackheads wont steal your cat. Sounds dumb as hell, but it actually works.

PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THEIR VEHICLES THAT TRAVEL THE COUNTRY THAT WANT TO OR ARE CARRYING GUNS!
They do not have a residential address. They live full time in their vehicle. They travel from state to state (no papers - lol). But they want self protection and bear spray is all they have. Castle Doctrine laws? Permit reciprocity? Storage laws? Ammo laws? etc.
No government institution can intervene in the private sale of goods , "shall not be infringed upon". Drive somewhere and buy one, not difficult
@@km9634 The government has been INFRINGING on our gun rights since the beginning of the 20th century. EVERY gun law in this country is actually an ILLEGAL gun law but that doesn't stop them from doing it, does it?
Wasp spray may be better than bear spray and definitely cheaper. Only problem effects very likely permanent.

I actually camouflage the inside of my truck with fast food wrappers and empty preparation H tubes nobody will try to get in my truck lol
As a family of avid trap shooters, when my son grew out of his youth model Remington 870 in 20 guage, I put a collapsable stock on it and made it my truck gun instead of selling it. Works great.

I recently left my truck parked for 5 days in a parking garage. The only thing visible from the windows was some miscellaneous garbage. Everything else that was left in the truck was out of sight. In addition when I got it I found there was storage space that wasn't easily accessible behind the crew cab rear seat. I bought an accessory that allows me to open that space easily. I can't give up my Tru-Spec 24/7 shorts though. I was into the 5.11 ones for a while, but at least for me, these work so much better. Pretty much always in that and a Columbia or similar lightweight, quick-dry shirt. Don't think the shorts scream gun like pants might. Another important consideration - footwear you can actually run in. Goes double for women.

Good way to arm the person that is about to break into your house or your neighbors house. Vehicles are not a secure place to store anything.

Their acts of violence are the number one reason anti-gunners use to influence voters to support gun control legislation. Become part of the solution, not part of the problem. Don't wait until your firearm becomes stolen to change complacency into deliberate security practices. Or worse yet, a loved one becomes a victim at the hands if a violent criminal with a (or your) stolen firearm.

The last thing anti-gunners want to do is call attention to stolen guns used in ordinary gang crime, because they don't want to talk about the kinds of people who are in those gangs, or the kinds of places those gangs are doing drive-bys with stolen guns, or the kinds of policies that created those conditions. When's the last time you heard a politician talk about a shooting that involved a gun stolen out of some random person's car? If they do talk about a crime committed with a stolen gun, it was almost always stolen from an immediate relative, out of a safe in the home where the shooter lived. So you might as well argue people shouldn't keep guns in safes in their homes.
I grew up in WV and everybody had a long gun hanging in the back glass of their pickup. Life was different in those days. People were more honest, and Democrats and Republicans were much closer in their beliefs and their love for America.
I lived in GA in the mid 90s and people were still hanging shotguns in the backwindow of their trucks. Turn of the century things started changing.

Good video guys its something that needs to be brought up from time to time. I remember an article I read a couple weeks ago and it was about the rise in firearm theft from police cars. So you know if people are willing to break into a cop car and steal guns that are normally in a locked rack they'll definitely break into the average persons car and steal theirs as well. Something as simple as just leaving it out of sight under the back seat or in the center console/glove box is a 100× better then leaving them out in the open.
the lock picking lawyer has some videos featuring police gun racks. it's ridiculous how easy they are to bypass, most of them can be opened with a magnet.
@@justindunlap1235 yeah that was the 1st time I heard about that probably a year or 2 ago but it seems like it happens in cycles or at least reporting on it... On the Guns America RUclips channel they showed how you could just take the gun apart in the gun rack to slip it out with very little force and time... but the vast majority of them can be bypassed with a magnet like you mentioned or shimming the ratchet latch faster then using a key which is pretty scary.

I am old school. Like 8888 said, a good old shotgun is a terrific truck gun. Because of our laws, I can’t always have a truck gun with me. But when the conditions allow, a Winchester SXP Defender secured properly but with easy access is nice to have. Especially in remote locations arriving back to our RV. You never know what you are going to run into. It is also easy to justify a shotgun in our jurisdiction, especially when you keep a few rubber bullet cartridges and bear banger shells in addition to some 00 buck. With those rounds handy it will be assumed that your primary purpose is bear/dog/ coyote protection.

A lot of photographers use diaper bags for concealing gear. Nobody wants to go rooting around through a diaper bag. I knew a guy who used to hide his contraband items in the nastiest chewing tobacco container you could imagine. Another guy had a fake hollowed out root and just "plant" it anywhere. Nobody ever tried to pull the stump out and see if anything was inside. I like having guns in bathrooms near the toilet because if you are ever taken hostage, it might be your only chance at not being watched too closely.

I always have my concealed carry but I put a break action 12 guage in the vehicle from time to time. It stores easily and it's not crazy expensive.
Use a pump action not a break action.

I know this is a old video, but I am still trying to catch up with all my favorite Guntubers. I have to say this. As a Disabled US Marine Combat Veteran I carry an IFAK in my vehicle at all times. I was out in Wyoming visiting my now deceased wife's family. We came across an accident and being pretty well proficient in immediate First Aid, I stopped and bandaged up a elderly woman and her husband. I have no doubt that the older woman would have bled out before EMS got there. After doing what I could possibly do, the Wyoming state police, and 2 ambulances showed up. The EMS thanked me, but ALSO warned me that I should be careful about doing such things, and the state trooper said the same thing. They told me, that alot of people that have passed away after a civilian intervenes with their conditions, that I could of been sued and charged with some crazy thing that I don't even remember, but luckily the state trooper called me the next day and said that I saved her life. But he also warned me again to be careful, and apply first aid at your own risk. My wife who passed away about 6 months ago at 39 yo, was blown away at the time, she couldn't believe that how fast I reacted and helped these people, and I could have been criminally charged. It's a crazy world man. Also, I want to say RIP to my wife of 13 years. I miss you.

I truly despise those stickers you see on SUVs and minivans that depict every member of the family in a line.
In my opinion, that's just bad mojo. While the odds of something happening are quite low, it draws attention that should be avoided to begin with. Sadly, many people just don't understand they're advertising to criminals of all types with those stickers and or signs on their front lawn with the family name instead of just the house number.

I have no 2A bumper stickers on my car. My gun safe is very well decorated for that reason. I also live in the Peoples republic of IL, but I like to remain covert with my gun carrying.

West Virginia has a law against carrying loaded long guns in or on any conveyance, they classify a loaded long gun as if a loaded detachable magazine is in the gun but no round in the chamber then it is considered loaded, same thing with a tubular magazine. It is a bogus hunting law, anyone who is caught with a loaded long gun and a flashlight in their vehicle is automatically assumed to be poaching and will get a poaching charge as well. Oh and our dNr do not need a warrant to search your property or your person. Which is a reason why they are unfit to exist.
DNR absolutely cannot search without warrants, probable cause, etc. But they THINK they can, they have been TAUGHT they can and have everyone COVINCED they can.
No way in hell does a local game warden have more search and seizure power than the FBI, DEA, Sheriff's Dept. or town cops.
They need their @@s sued off and then they'll knock it off. Worked in my state.

I don't think its so much the criminals have gotten so brazen as the politicians have made the laws such that you can not protect your property. If those criminals thought for one second that someone was going to come out and shoot them dead, they would think twice and go and get a job. Just my thoughts.

Stupid laws need to change so that properly trained people, who legally own firearms, should be allowed to protect their property as opposed to calling the cops and watching as it happens.
I have a Gun Gripe gun gripe. I'm tired of everybody claiming "you want the element of surprise" or you that you need it in a defense situation. Its blatantly false. People attack cops and civilians knowing they are armed all the time in the exact same way as they do when they don't know. If anything somebody might choose to not do the deed whether its looting or attacking if they think the person is armed. If you have data to show people break in to cars more often with pro 2A stuff on them I'd like to see that.
People that attack cops have the intent to kill. Most civilian attacks are for robbing. If you're open carrying a 1911 on your hip, some idiot can come put a Glock in your face and take your weapon and your wallet. If you were concealed carrying, they might not expect you to grab your weapon while pretending to grab your wallet. The element of surprise definitely makes a difference.
@@dimains6011 I don't see cops being held up to steal their guns and the same would be said for a civilians openly carrying. Cops have also not gone completely undercover because they stand no chance without the element of surprise. I think being a hidden gun owner is for social reasons and tactics are an excuse. Can you see some negatives coming from most gun owners being in the closet gun owners?
