    Roy Scheider was robbed of an Oscar for this movie.

      I agree completely. Kramer v. Kramer won that year and All That Jazz was a better movie.

      I can't decide both movies were great, I wish there could have been
      a tie for best actor.

    I like how he pointed out Gideon's gentleness with the auditioners. It's true, he was very sweet with them. It's one of the things that made me like him right away, though he's not someone I'd ever want to get close to myself.

    I saw this movie for the first time when I was 12. I have watched it about 20 times over the past 35 years. The soundtrack is amazing. I love Bob Fosse. This was his true masterpiece.

      Michele Lazarow It came out the same year - 1979 - as "Apocalypse Now." At the next Academy Awards the Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director went to one film - "Kramer vs. Kramer."
      It was about then I realised how, yes, maybe the Oscars aren't the best indication of a film's greatness.

      All That Jazz should've won Best Picture, Director, Screenplay and Best Actor. Also I feel that Scheider could've tied Best Actor with Peter Sellers in Being There, as both of there performances were fantastic. Cause I've gone back and forth with Best Actor that year and to me they were both so good, giving it to one and not the other seems like a crime. Either way, Scheider and Sellers were better than Hoffman in Kramer vs Kramer.

      Hollywood's Golden Year is 1939. The Second Golden Year is 1979. A remarkable year with some of the best films of the postwar years. I will not list them all as I'm sure that not all will agree, but the fact that Kramer vs. Kramer received the Best Picture Oscar over All That Jazz, Manhattan, Breaking Away, A Little Romance, Alien, Apocalypse Now, and others, is the biggest misstep by the Academy in its history.

    • @Wired4Life2
      @Wired4Life2 8 лет назад +2

      However, Kramer Vs. Kramer is still, on its own, quite great. The competition was just leagues ahead, craft-wise.

    this will sound crazy but I saw this film in 1995 at 18, had just graduated high School. the song at the end Bye Bye Love effected me greatly in a strange way. I would listen to it constantly & if something didn't feel right about a decision I had too make while listening to this song, I wouldn't do it, if I felt nothing then I would. Crazy part is, it was creepy accurate, I made the correct choices every time. then Hootie & The Blowfish exploded onto the music charts ,& the song was lost in the years that followed, until now. I find myself needing guidance on an important life issue & I'm very confused & unsure what too do (relationship crap). I was drawn to find it again after 22 years.

    One of my favorites. It's not just a masterpiece it may be a perfect movie. It's citizen Kane done by citizen Kane. Fosse made a true biopic of his life and predicted his own death. Who makes their own biopic before they're dead. FOSSE
