One thing I can say for Winona more than other young actresses nowadays is she really knows her film history and has very good taste in cinema and has respect for the art. Even when she was a young actress in her 20's in the 1990's she seemed to have good taste and work with the top directors on more sophisticated projects than most and many period pieces. She also is a big rock music fan and has very good taste in that area as well from interviews I have seen with her. I enjoy the episodes where people have respect for the Criterion Closet.
It's never going to happen, but if ever I start to feel my love of cinema fading, watching Winona here would be a great way to put me back on track again. Wonderful choices, and her passion for her picks, and the medium in general, is so real and undeniable. It's so refreshing to see from someone who's been in the Hollywood mill for so long. She seems like such an earnest, heartfelt human being! And everyone, go watch After Life- and, hell, Koreeda's whole filmography while you're at it- as soon as you can.

The ending of 'The Age Of Innocence' is truly one of the most astonishingly subtle scenes. What a wonderful guest to have in the closest. I aways appreciate the guests who go to the effort to really inform the viewer. To do so without arrognce but with such a serene dignity, humilty and almost a sweetness, this was one of the very best. Winonoa Ryder in the closest could be a movie within itself. Most guests are a pleasure to watch, a minoirty are rather smug and pious, but when it coms to grace and generosity of spirit this may well be my favourite CC guest review yet.
Winona Ryder in the Criterion closet? You know I HAD to click.
No I don't, how would I know that? I dont know you, I don't think. Who are you, maybe I do? You've made this whole thing very confusing.
To see if she got arrested....?
You are not alone. I HAD to click on it, too.
@@richardichard4237dick move everyone makes mistakes.
@@richardichard4237 Hollywood is full of scumbags and predators. The quirky girl who took some pills and shoplifted seems comparatively redeemable, no?
Hi , Winona. I love the Criterion Collection. Great picks . You were wonderful in Dracula. Hope you had fun.
Her voice is my therapy ❤
I love this woman. So glad to see a resurgence in her career these past few years.
love to see her so nerdy about films, also her voice is just so beautiful ? one of my favorite actors
The ending of 'The Age Of Innocence' is truly one of the most astonishingly subtle scenes. When Winona's May Welland destroys Daniel Day Lewis' Newland Archer with nothing more than the sharing of good news, her mask never drops for a second and we see how powerful an innocent character can really be.
Winona is one of the greats!
Ugh, this is Scorcese's most underappreciated movie. It's not even really a period drama or literary adaptation. So frickin' good.
@@postmodernrecyclerLiterally it is such a masterpiece 👌
Watching her geek out to films is so infectiously heartwarming
@@postmodernrecycler Only recently got round to watching it, and I absolutely concur.
One of the few remaining Winona films I have yet to see... Not sure why I always seem to forget about that one... BUT, not any longer, thanks to this comment and subsequent replies.
Winona has been making a steady comeback in the last 6-7 years and honestly really happy that she’s back on the big screen
I just love her more and more - she is so cute talking about her joy in movies
That little laugh and "There's an expression all the kids use..." - And I thought I couldn't adore this woman any deeper. Thank you. Any chance to see my favorite actress is an absolute treat.
This is one of the best criterion closer vids. Obscure pics and you can tell how much she loves these movies. I love her
She still has that same beauty from her young age. She has aged like fine wine ❤.
I love that this vid just makes me feel that is genuinely a rather cool and interesting person. I mean I always thought she was but this shows that it is not just a mask she puts on, she truly is wonderful
Good god she's adorable and so genuine and awesome and I am so glad she's come back on the scene and is doing stuff. She always exuded the energy of such an old soul. Yay
this closet format is genius. and so is AFTER LIFE
She’s been making me fall in love over and over again my whole life. Solid picks. Highly recommend them all.
Certain faces just bring me back to my childhood. For so many people Winona Ryder was the 90's, more than anyone.
Very cool list too.
Love Winona so much!!! She has no idea how much she’s loved.
She is my hallpass, my lifelong crush, my muse, my idol, my dream girl, my favorite famous person...I adore everything about her and this was just a confirmation of my undying love and devotion to her.
The fact she picked some lesser known greats was a bonus too.
My childhood just squealed with delight to learn from the beloved and amazing Winona Ryder. Mmm mm, girl, you got your own Gena vibe. We see you ❤❤❤
I love to see actors with taste. ❤
OMG😍. The most lovely and passionate that I've ever seen and heard talking about their special films🥺🥰
I have been enlightened, my 'must seek out' list has been enhanced ....thank you Winona
We are glad to have you there and that you share your tastes and your love for what you do. Thank you for the visit and may you continue to be so splendid. A hug from Spain.
A star in the truest sense. The history of cinema on this woman is SO impressive. She has weathered some storms and remained delightful throughout.
How she shoplifts with such grace is amazing
@@sidvicious332 go eat your food scraps. Your enormous need for attention is getting kind of boring.
I loved "After Life!" The cast was so great it was like watching a documentary taking place in heaven. "Au revoir enfants" was the first french film I saw in high school. Anyway, Winona is truly amazing and we're so lucky to have her sharing her art with us.
I love how down to earth she is when talking about her love for the films she loves. We all are film connoisseurs.
One of my fave closet vids. Her passion!
She is just so wholesome. I love her kind energy and excitement for film. Loved her picks and how personal she got.
Aww Winona is such a gem!💎🥰👌🏻
Great picks! Winona is, always was, and always will be the coolest. Also how great what she said about watching Gena as a child. She must’ve been so thrilled to have starred with her in their Night on Earth segment ♥️
WOW!! Great! All the favorites are excellent! Winona has great taste.
Winona; your first pick would have been my first pick. I gasped as you pulled it off the shelf. Respect to you. Loved your reference to scripture.😊
"There's an expression that kids use: if you know you know." I love you so much, Winona!
I loved that! She is everything.
“Au Revoir les Enfants” is a wonderful pick. ❤
I am so excited right now! I am honored to share a birthday with you, Winona!
me too!
Me too!
Me to!
She shares a birth year with my Mother
I have her birthday too! October 29th!!! (Scorpios unite!)
You’re the best, you were always in your own lane. You are in some of the most interesting movies of my youth. Much love and respect you are a legend and an icon.
Clicked so fast. 😄 What a legend and inspiration. 😌
