This video is great! No bullshit, straight to the point and very helpful! Quick question, when testing the ignition switch to make sure it has power, which wire do I check? Where do I find a break down of each wire? My grandma’s 01 sierra is not cranking or starting, found that there is no power going to crank fuse or #85 pin on starter relay while turning key to “start”. Every other fuse is good. The engine cranks when jumping the starter relay, but won’t start, so I need to check the ignition switch. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
Your video helped me the most out of all the ones on the internet I wanted to thank you and I think your video helped me figure out it had to lost damn key to finishing the repair on my own 2003 Silverado thank you
My fresh air blind door actuator would always make noise like something is running in my dash…. Great video straight forward my transaction isn’t shifting properly and the shop told me that the ignition switch may be bad but Thank you for the amazing video !!!!
You answered one of my questions I have asked and NO ONE knew or would say anything. I have 2001 HD 4X4 crew cab and many times I could NOT turn the key all the way back to Acc. to pull the key out. Had this problem with an old 1995 Siverado but the dealer FINALLY found a loose "Bitsy" cable after trying 4 times. Thanks.
Thank you for showing how the harness goes. A thief tried to steal my 01 Silverado by using big pliers on the key cylinder. I have a hidden kill switch so they didn't get my truck but they did damage the plastic gear in the switch. I have to replace it and didn't know how. Thank you again.
Thanks man! I appreciate the video first one I stumbled on with the complete ignition switch along with harnesses video. I guess theirs 2 styles of ignition switches (1) being just the adaptor plug under steering column. 2nd has also a plug adaptor under steering column but this set up comes with additional wiring harness under dash as in video. 👍🏽
I also agree your video pointed out all the stuff that everyone missed or left out it's probably the frustrating and cussing so thank you man you should be a TV mechanic you have a good character
Good stuff Thomas! I know what you mean about hacked wires... My '99 Suburban is stuck in "SECURITY" mode and does the start, run 2 seconds and shut-off nightmare right now. Watched 100 videos about how to "reset" or "by-pass" and even replace the passlock module to no avail. I found that someone prior to me did the "diode splice" trick to bypass the VATS but now my truck thinks I'm trying to steal it! FML... I'm out of options at this point. Have you ever had this issue? I know it's not what you just did but I'm watching anything related to ignition at this point. Thanks for posting.
I've not had to deal with those problems. But one solution could be to get someone to turn vats off with HP tuners but then you'll have no security but then you'll also have no security to fail lol
All the upper pieces you removed weren't necessary. All you need to take off is the steering column clamshell and the lower dash plastic and metal bracket.
@@benitosanchez6951 that's not the ignition switch causing that. The transceiver around the ignition switch will cause that because it's not recognizing the key or its not functioning at all so it thinks you're trying to steal it.
@@benitosanchez6951 it's possible you have the ignition switch in there wrong just pop it out and turn the gear with your fingers if it starts and stays running you had it on the wrong tooth if it starts and then dies it thinks you're trying to steal it. It's been too long since I've had to mess with that I don't remember how to fix the transceiver problem
Excellent information Sir!

My 2000 gmc 1500 doesnt start
A mechanic checked the ignition system on his computer. He said its the wires you replaced on this video. Is he correct
Mechanic never repaired the problem cause he was vert di k at the time then later died.
Do my truck still won't start
Tahoe must be really different because stuff is not just popping out for me
How do you know if you need the 10 pin or 14 pin switch?
Really like that instrument cluster, mind if I ask who sell that item?
It's a north face instrument cluster. It was an option for denali at some point I believe
Great no hassle
