      How about something slightly different for the next episode, was thinking, maybe, the offspring? Would probably choose "smash" from the album of the same title ('94). It's, arguably, their greatest album & the one that propelled them into the mainstream.
      I'd give F.O.A.L 90 🍅🍅🍅, a great track but not my favourite.

    KoRn was my first introduction to what type of musics I enjoy nowadays. Borrowed a cassette tape from a friend, we were 10 yo, and it was their Follow the Leader album and still to this day my favourite album of their's. Never been exposed to any heavy music before then, and every track from that album pretty much blew my mind. And yeah, Got the Life is one of my favourite as well

    The first song i heard from Korn was Hear To Stay on tv back in 2003, its the song that got me interested in them.
    Follow the Leader was the first album I bought by mistake because I did not check which album the song was on. When I heard "It's On" the first song on the album i thought it was really wierd and skipped it. It was this song and Got The Life that kept me listening to the rest of the album including going back to the first song and really enjoyed the album.
    After finally getting the Untouchables album I've been listening to them since.

    This song was written about the music industry and how he felt like a 'Freak on a leash' when it came to being controlled by the label. Also about Jonathan's voice, people should not forget that he has been dealing with serious asthma most of his life (has had at least two life threatening asthma attacks) In the first years he had to have an oxygen tank to inhale from inbetween songs. His vocals are actually much better today after he started vocal lessons in the early 2000's and really started taking care of his voice (for example having a no interview policy before a show since talking takes alot out on the voice according to him.)

    • @ChemicalReactions
      @ChemicalReactions  4 года назад +1

      I didn't know about the asthma. Breathing from a tank could definitely represent the leash.

    I love your discussions and breakdowns after the songs. Very insightful, and especially the part where you were talking about record labels forcing bands to do what they want them to do rather than doiing what they feel and create from the heart. Although I've heard this song hundreds of times, I never took the time to break it down and analyze the lyrics.
    My favorite band right now is 100% independent. They are three young sisters from Mexico. they write their own music, they play their own instruments, they play it loud and with a lot of energy.
    I know this series is abut 90s rock, but your commentary brought me to The Warning. They did a concept album called Queen of the Murder Scene. It's phenomenal, and you forget that this psycho-thriller of an album was written by 13-18 year old teenage girls.
    One of these days, I'll find the right series and ask you to react to them. Maybe your female fronted rock or something.
    Anyway, where I meant to go with this is that, there is no record label that is going to let any band do a concept album, much less 3 teenage sisters.

    • @ChemicalReactions
      @ChemicalReactions  4 года назад +1

      We're going to have to check them out. A lot of requests coming for the Warning!

    • @saturnracer156
      @saturnracer156 4 года назад

      @@ChemicalReactions That would be cool. I would love to hear your take on them. I'll give you my first suggestion.
      As I said, the album Queen of the Murder scene is a concept album. They released the song Dust to Dust first, which was a prologue to the story. They they released 4 3-song chapters over the next couple of months. One chapter at a time.
      The album follows a woman through obsession over unrequited love, psychosis, murder, suicide. It is focuses mostly on her state of mind from her perspective.
      I would recommend this live version of Dust to Dust from Mexico City at a venue called Lunario. It is the night they released the album. Nov 25, 2018 ruclips.net/video/TeIbG8nkOiU/видео.html
      At the time, Daniela (Dany) - Guitar was 18, Paulina (Pau) Drums 16 and Alejandra (Ale) Bass was 13.
      Pau came up with the concept and starts most of their songs, but they all share in the song writing and production..
      I hope you enjoy!
      My musical background is in line with Chuck's. Metallica, Maiden, Judas Priest etc. This is the first band that has excited me in probably 20 years.

    Korn was Influence by Mr.bungle and Faith No More. They were the ones that started this type of experimenting of loud catchy genres and more catchy mellow ones... I've read the bassist and lead guitarist from korn theirs books and they both openly say if it wasn't for those band then korn and nu metal probably wouldn't be the same. Mike patton the singer of FNM and Mr.bungle plays a big role in this.

    Despite trying for over 20 years now I have never been able to understand the fascination with Korn. They took what Faith No More and White Zombie had done, slowed it down and ran with it. They don't write songs, they write riffs. Faith No More's We Care A Lot from much earlier in the 90s will show you where most 90s metal started to be honest. Also their version of Crazy by Lionel Richie would be a great cover comparison vid.

    Here some advices of bands not so famous but stylish :
    - Cthonic (Broken Jade) A Folk Black Metal Melodic (Tawanese band), by the way, the singer and the bassist are politicians in Taiwan
    - Orphaned Land (Ocean Land) a Folk Death Metal Melodic (Israeli band)

    Hey guys! First of all, got into you just a few hours ago, very, very entertaining, I’ ve seen some reactions (Yes, another Nightwish - Floor and Tarja fan) and it’s great watching both of you interacting with the videos/songs/lyrics, thumbs up!
    Now, I haven’t taken a deeper look into the comments, but let me have you known....you already made it down to CHILE!
    I hope I’ll get more of your reactions and wanted to give you a few ideas, one very special as I saw that Chuck gets really into the music (goosebumps), here’s my top 3 you should take a look at:
    1.- as you are already prepared for Symphonic Metal: Epica (the band) - Sancta Terra (the song) or Monopoly on truth or Cry for the moon. Special attention to the lead vocals, better be prepared....Simone Simons (she all by herself is worth any video) // Epica, another north-european band - Netherlands
    2.- Tarja Turunen, THE GODESS of Symphonic Metal. If you got impressed by Floor.....this one should get you one step closer to mindblowing vocals. Song: maybe to this very little contrast to Floor Jansen, Ghost Love Score (Tarja was the original singer) or Phantom of the opera (with Nightwish) or Victim of Ritual (her solo project at this time)
    3.- if gosebumps is what you’re looking for, try this: Arcane - Promise (Part 2). This is music that just gets under your skin, it’s not a very known band (australian prog) but it’s one of the discoveries I made thanks to internet of which I’m actually proud of. Please give it a try, you will face a rollercoaster of wonderful music......mark my words ☝️. I’m 100% sure you’ll LOVE IT! (Remember this: “the piano part”)
    Now enough, hope to see you very soon, 👋 congrats from Chile @ChemicalReactions! you rock!

    He was an amazing writer. His music spoke to young people and the messages were not always caught at first listen, but there are songs like Daddy that are unmistakable. People all talk about Kurt Cobain from Nirvana but Kurt was not near as good as Johnathan when it came to lyrics (I assume the haters will hate that comment). An interesting listen on this song is the unplugged version when Amy Lee sat with him and sang it. I would give the song, not the woodstock video about the same rating of 94.

Besides their covers, they also have original songs and music videos (7 singles available, so far). Only playing for a few years and already ranked a Top 10 Female guitarist. Anyone else playing guitar both ways? Male or female? Remember, they are very young. How good are they gonna get?! Audrey is the celebrated guitarist, but little sister is just one step behind on bass.

    Chances are good it's on your list already, but you ought to check out Nero Forte from the new Slipknot album :) More "Moshy" than Birth of the Cruel, though still with a melodic chorus.

      In retrospect, I'm curious as to why they released BOTC as a single instead of Nero Forte. Nero Forte is the one that's killing it right now.
