  • The Pittsburgh Steelers made their NFL Draft picks complete on day three with guard Mason McCormick, defensive tackle Logan Lee and cornerback Ryan Watts. But why does McCormick have the potential to be a starter sooner than the others? Chris Carter breaks that down, and the needs that still exist on the roster now that the NFL Draft is complete.

    Agreed Chris. When I first heard the McCormick pick I was like Why? But then I watched some highlights and now I really like the pick. Plus we have been really lucky on our Oline injury wise, but always nice to have strong depth.

    All 3 have great RAS scores. McCormack is a beast run blocking. C/G capable. Experienced calling line blocks. Needs cleanup on pass blocking. Lee was a HS TE switched to dline so is still getting bigger. Good against run and pass. Watts big CB not good in man. Probably play safety/slot and ST.

    Loudermilk lost weight for the combine to try and get consideration as an Edge rusher for 4-3 teams. He played at Wisconsin closer to 300lbs. I wouldn't be surprised if that's true for Logan Lee as well. Looks like he played in the 290s for Iowa according to their press guides. But yeah took Loudermilk a while to put that weight back on.

    Now that they took McCormick at G in rnd 4, i thought about it.. Steelers starting guards are like 31 and 27 y.o. and I think they view Herbig more as G/C depth more than a future starter. So this makes sense! Note : Once i saw the tape.. yep makes a lot of sense. B+

    Hoping that they develop Mason better than they did Dotson.

  • @Varzaak
    @Varzaak 28 дней назад

    After we drafted him I went through some of his tape. Was really hard to analyze because he played against small players. He is going to have to work on his strength. He has a year to get bigger. Technique? Again, against lesser talent where he would punch them, and it would stop them in their tracks. I saw Frazier do that against Div 1. But against guys McCormick dwarfs? No clue how effective it will be guys bigger than he is. What I will say he is very smooth where on one play he tuned his hips and pivoted on his forward foot while disengaging from one defender he stood up, and then hit the second guy with a side shot that knocked the defender down. Rarely seen a guy try to pull that off with no loss of momentum. Was pretty impressive. So worst case you got a raw guy that is ridiculously athletic who can be coached up. Personality wise he has the makeup of being very serious about his craft. Very focused player. I feel really good about this guy.

If he can’t be a starter it will be figured out before they HAVE to draft a Guard and if a great one happens to fall to them in 2025, 2026 they can snap him up then
