I've seen and read several reviews of this, and I'm genuinely impressed. I wish it was a hybrid or a 4 can instead of 3, but I'm open minded. I've been wanting cars that are affordable and economical, but with a bias toward comfort instead of sporting aspirations. Today I rode in a CorollaCross, which I'm confident is a good car, but the interior was just so drab and cheap looking. This would be a nice car to live in day to day that wouldn't seem depressing. I think this car will quietly sell very well.
Wow, it appears Buick made a car that people actually want to buy!
It actually seems nice for 25k, but the reliability will kill you
yeah...no.
I mean it’s just an lame automatic FWD crossover.
It's not a barge with a 3800 V6. So... no.
@@hassyg4083 american cars are terrible
The design is actually very nice and sporty. It deserves a proper performance model, 130 HP just doesn't cut it...
That would require GM doing something cool, they don’t do that
@@dawsongranger4940they have a million different good powertrains and platforms but all they build is junk tiny crossovers that are so underpowered that they’re unreliable
@@devn3813Like how much are they saving by not just putting a 2.2 4 cylinder in this thing? That three cylinder is going to become legendary for grenading.💥
@@devn3813so unreliable that they don’t even exist to me.
Was about to finish the video, then I read this comment.
I love the new company logo. And it amazes me how 3 cylinder engines sound just like their 6 cylinder big brothers. It’s a shame 4 cylinders don’t sound like V8s lol.
4 cylinders are typically flat plane i believe, you replace the the crank with a cross plane and boom, mini V8
@@thunderouspasta it will probably still sound like a buzzy four cylinder I think it has to do with the number of cylinders
@@thunderouspastayeah i like to think my s2k makes ferrari-like sounds but that might be a far fetch
3cyl sounds and drive like a 5cyl or inline6 lot torque and nice feeling.
@@camallen1895look at the cross plane r1s
Never thought I’d see tedward drive a Buick but I’m so here for it
It's beautiful 😍
i really like the overall exterior shape and proportions! very nice!
Thanks for show us Dexter. Having driven in the area I'm impressed with the vehicle.
I'll be honest. The Envista and the new Trax mark the first time GM has been on my shopping radar in many years.
These look so cool, I'm so impressed with what GM has put out recently. At this price point they should sell quite a bunch of these.
It’s so refreshing to have a decent new car which is reasonably priced
And it's all because it was made in China (or Korea)! :D
I would definitely prefer this over the trax, it’s certainly beautiful and future proof.
It seems like quite a nice ride with good attention to detail.
Thank you for your awesome review. I happen to love the Avenir trim level, so that vehicle will definitely be my next lease. Maybe in 2025, when I am ready, GM will offer some better options for this vehicle, but if they don't, I will still lease it. I think it is a beautiful vehicle. ❤️
It seems like a very nice CUV for the money. Love the style. Your description of the transmission being "clunky" is why I prefer CVTs. I live in the city. 95% of my driving is urban and suburban. Lots of leaving a traffic light, getting up to speed, only to have to immediately slow down for the next red light. "Clunky" gets annoying very quickly in such a scenario when the transmission is going through all 6 gears by 40mph, as was the case in my 2018 Elantra 6-speed auto.
Rear passenger compartment would be great as an uber car! Sitting 3 up for a ride across Boston would be easily possible. Styling is nice as a bonus!
I'm leasing one soon! This thing is just so darn good for the price.
I really want one! Great video.
I had a Buick Verano which is essentially what this Envista replaces. It started around $22k and tops out at $28k in 2012. That says volume how affordable this car is. Keeping the same price after 10 years.
Wow actually sounds pretty good!
My sister lives in surrey bc and she's enjoying her hyundai tucson phev without being added to the list she received a text message from the dealership mentioning that a hyundai tucson phev became available as the customer had put down a deposit left the country and it was a nice surprise
Looks good and it's what people probably really need right now in todays economy. I hope it proves to be reliable.
Another fellow Canadian here, love your videos. - I like the way this Buick looks although I wish they offered maybe a hybrid or a more powerful powertrain.
Made me laugh regarding being a baller with the auto closing hatch! Nice!
I usually don’t go in for low horsepower vehicles. But I really like this Buick, I definitely would consider buying this one.
Just bought one and been driving full sized pickups for the past 7 yrs. Love this vehicle. Bought the avenir fully loaded. Can’t beat it for the price.
You won't believe the power delivery of that tiny 1.2L 3cy. Really nice 😮
I drove BTW 😊
The reliability of the 3 cylinder is everything. If its actually a decent 150k~200k miles motor, these things (and the Trax) are gonna be EVERYWHERE.
It looks like an outstanding daily driver package aside from the relative unknown of the 1.2l turbo under the hood
That's the real question. Is it going to be reliable? It's got the looks. It's got comfort. It's got features.
Reminds me of a nicer EccoSport........pass
I'm sure that will depend A LOT on how people use (or abuse) this motor, and how it is taken care of. The first thing this should get it's an Oil Catch Can, and if it came with 0W-20 oil, should be upgraded to 0W-30 on 3000 miles oil change, max 5k if it's highway driven only...
@@juanmanuelgil3436 I just hope it's designed a little bit better than the three cylinder EcoSport engine that thing is a total piece of junk
Only 200k is kinda garbage. It is 2023, cars should be 300k across the board with the amount of technology we have
Nice review, thank you
This looks great. Seems to struggle getting to 60 on that acceleration run. Got to 40 relatively quickly and then fell off.
FYI the Avenir trim does have a rear armrest/ cup holders.
Good looking! Good review!
A couple of misses but ultimately fairly impressed for the money. No rear ac vents, rear center arm rest, could have used the 1.3 with a bit more power, no auto dimming rear view mirror. Other than that seems like a decent car to get people around, let’s see if Gm actually made a decent to own car long term.
Basically, that motor is stressed every time you drive the car. Downsizing the engine works best when you also remove weight from the vehicle, otherwise that defeats the purpose.
Yeah, 136 hp moving a 3200 lb vehicle translates to about 24 lbs per hp, or 0.042 hp per pound. At least it makes more torque than horsepower, I guess.
@@clutch7366I don't even know if this is a 3300 pound vehicle. Because the Trax weight is 4,000+
@Striker50_ the Trax is a 3100 pound vehicle
@@alanb3213 4000+ if you put 2 americans in it.
Wish we got the 1.5L turbo charged inline 4 181-hp that the Chinese market got, but all in all it's a nice modest crossover. The main thing is that it looks great and drives well. That's really all you should ask for, considering its price range.
V4?
i think u mean inline 4
Man, if only we can import those Chinese cars. They are so nice n inexpensive.
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I really enjoyed the video looking forward to seeing this crossover here and the rear wiper blade has been eliminated especially annoying in winter as I don't have a garage
I’m glad you said it! I had to trim some of the video and the wiper discussion got cut. Was hoping that would play out in the comments
Be nice to see it perform in snow and ice...
give this a v6 and i think you'd have a decent car
Affordable cars are great, but after having personally experienced just how unreliable a car can be with the help of a 2013 1.4L Cruze, I'm still wary of anything built to a budget bearing a GM brand.
Some of their Silverado and Malibu platform vehicles have been decent. But their automatic transmissions can be unreliable, and their budget vehicles were horrid. What went wrong with your 2013 Cruze may I ask?
@@frederickschulze8014every 1.4T had head gasket and turbo issues. My dad’s blew up at 35,000 miles and it was just a highway mileage car
If you want an affordable car, just buy a civic or corolla and never think about it again.
@@realbigtuna667 but everyone wants a compact lifted “SPORTY” vehicle.
@@devn3813inferior complex and marketing sucks man… stupid SUVs making it more and more unsafe every day to own anything smaller than an SUV because of stupid weight advantages…
I’m literally convinced that I need to trade in my Mercedes for this! I’m tired of paying the insurance on it. This is in my top 3 at the moment
I know you don’t care for CVT, but it would be interesting if you got your hands on a FWD version of the Chevy Trailblazer or the Buick Encore GX with the same 1.2L or the optional 1.3L. It’s a chain-driven design as opposed to the steel belt design used in Hondas, Subarus, and Nissans. Also, it only fake shifts if you’re in the high revs. In regular driving, it behaves like a CVT should, and it’s easy to keep the revs where the torque is.
The turn signals in the bumpers need to be illegal. On top of it, they made them red. Be ready to get honked at a lot. They are invisible during the day being down that low when most people expect them in the main light cluster above.
I kinda wish they kept up with the regal sportback, mid size sedan with a hatch, 4cylinder at 260hp, even had a 300hp v6 type. If this had a 4 cylinder within 160-200 hp it’d be more alluring.
Finally Buick is bringing some of its Chinese models to the us. They’re some of the nicest buicks
You are so right, when it comes to the Buicks that are being made in some of the Asian Countries. I just love them! Bring them all to the U.S.!
@@TheCatMamaChannel yes! And their minivans too. Gm wonders why Buick isn’t getting anywhere in the us, it’s because they didn’t bring their Chinese models here
@@ummmbye1228 True!
They also are making impressive Chinese vehicles for their own market.
It's made in South Korea, not China.
Seeing these in person they aren't as impressive as i initially thought they would be. Still just looks like a buick. better than the old models for sure tho.
Please show lane assistance and blind spot monitoring tech of Buick
The Trax RS looks dope
Imo the new Buick badge is great modern take on the classic one
Straight to the rental car lots
I like that you're focusing on these newer cars. These cheaper cars feel like they're real (they aren't elaborate but it doesn't feel like 50 premium services and 100s of recalls because the sealed thing the dealership (that doesn't exist because they charged 150k for lightenings) needs to do because it's all made of special multidimensional interlocking keys only the dealership can ever touch). So yeah, maybe easy to work on. They feel like they're good starter cars for kids and young adults as well. How does it feel to be the arch nemesis of super car blonde 😂.
Looks solid
9:34 I didn't realize a nissan Kicks was capable of that speed
Im trying to think of which one was faster, when i was 16 and id taken my grandmas 04 chevy aveo out on the highway for the first time, or this 3 cylinder envista🤷♂️. I saw one of these for the first time yesterday. I like the design. It shot past me and my friend, we were in the newer styled cruize. (Rental btw). Lol
Ford bronco sport,Chev trax, buick chev trailblazer, envista, buick encore gx are great buys.Their 3cyl engines are strong.
Seriously impressed a 1.2L 3-cylinder with 136 hp can motivate like that. It’s nowhere near fast, but on paper that sounds like a recipe for Geo Metro-like acceleration.
These downsized 3 cyl engines have been popular in Europe and South America (where I'm from) for a while now. The one in the GR Yaris puts out 260 HP.
I would have definitely been a buyer if they had a better powertrain or at least AWD option. For such a tiny 1.2 3 cylinder to only get 33 mpg hwy in a FWD only car is unjustifiable in the new car market. I can get AWD suvs that get better mileage and probably are faster.
Holy shit it actually looks amazing (design)
It just seems insane to me that $25k cars are now considered "cheap"...
Hear, hear!
You're just getting old....
Very nice car!
It’s European driveline is actually from the stellantis group I believe. Which means it’s common heren in most Peugeot, Citroen and Opel cars. Greetings from NL
A Buick with get ya though it 💪🏾
The infotainment bezels are larger than the engine's displacement.
I had a dream about this car. In the dream it was like a Maybach!
Do the buttons on the steering wheel and arm rests light up at night?
The trailblazer 1.3 makes 155hp/174tq. It would make this car fun. I just rented one of those and it suprisingly scooted.
Yeah of course. But the trailblazer is not as inexpensive
This is almost an exact replica of the Chevrolet Trax 2RS. The interior is 100% the same.
I'm bummed - me thinks that by the time I'm in the market for one of these (as a car for one of my adult children that would need reliable and inexpensive transportation) these will dramatically increase in price to the lower 30's. I've not owned a GM product for 35+ years this would be one I'd strongly consider!
While the Trax looks like an NPC car...this looks...rather nice
It reminds me of a bmw x4 or x6
is the seat bigger in thiscar or is the same size as the trax frount seat
Anyone curious, it's an Asin 6 speed and the programming on all those asin 6 speeds were slow.. but it should be reliable. At least the trans anyway..
You’ve mentioned the transmission being “clunky” a few times. Does it shift hard and jerky?
That gauge cluster looks a lot like a knock-off version of Lincoln's latest gauge clusters lol
An SUV I might actually be able to identify without having to locate the badges. However, that engine kills the buzz. It needs a bigger displacement, more power, one more cylinder, at least, no forced induction, and an available manual.
The car just screaming GLC Coupe vibe
Beautiful on the outside, very old-fashioned on the inside. The interiors do not do justice to its new sporty design, it seems like you are inside a 2015 Chevrolet somewhere
Buick will never die, they are huge in China
Does it have the Super Cruise option? Thanks
Hii I’m looking for a car but don’t know which one to get here are the things I want..
- Sunroof (panoramic if can)
- Backup camera
- High tech interior but also buttons
- Push to start (optional)
- Mid crossover
- Decent hp (132+)
- 4 cylinder
- Awd (optional)
- price range $20-40,000
Any suggestions?
Toyota
The first time ever where a GM vehicle feels more expensive than the sum of its parts. It does have a middling powertrain, but for those who don't care for 0-60 times, they should be happy with the MPG and turbo low end torque.
A Buick crossover, and I like it?!? It's a bridge too far for a v6 coupe owner who likes a bit more in the driving category. But wow!
Seems shockingly nice for the budget. Imagine this amount of shit even like 10 or 15 years ago for 25k. It's only a few grand off my mother's 2013 Civic, which is pretty impressive to me.
As the daily driver of a Scion XB I'm offended😂 This Buick is gorgeous though😍
I am considering this or the CRV
I ordered the Trax 2RS and this car kist confuses me so much... I can pay $2K more and can't decide with which one to go with...
At first glance, a 1.2L inline-3 with 136 hp/162 lbs./ft sounds milquetoast. But extrapolate 113 hp/L, 135 Tq/L and 400cc’s per cylinder out and you get:
1.6L I-4: 181 hp, 216 lbs./ft
2.0L I-5: 226 hp, 270 lbs./ft
2.4L I-6: 271 hp, 324 lbs./ft
4.8L V12: 542 hp, 648 lbs./ft
That last one is in Bentley Continental GT territory. Not bad…
Granted engine internals would have to be upgraded and fortified to handle those outputs but generally speaking its an impressive engine for its size.
Does it wimp out with the air conditioner running?
Ouch. The first scene where the 0-60 took forever just let’s the design down so bad. Imagine 2-3 people and luggage and trying to merge onto the highway that’s flowing 70mph plus.
"Upscale" but there's no engine option over its cheaper Chevrolet Trax twin.
Leasing is the best option
How come nobody talks about the quiet tune active noise cancellation?
Chasing after the Mazda market share
Give this thing a hybrid upgrade and awd and I’m in.
9:35 thats kicks was zoomin bot had for a slow cvt
The cvt version of this in the Encore GX is actually better suited for this engine. Its a good cvt and the car never breaks a sweat or goes above 3k rpm and its deceptively quick...quicker than this 6sp auto im willing to bet.
Is that the new Hyundai Kona at 12:36?
Buick is one of those car companies I don’t understand how they still in business
They sell a lot in Asia. Buick is loved in China as a luxury brand
@@TedwardDrivesI’m convinced they’ll probably go out of business in America but continue overseas.
I find it really strange you mention competitors in this segment and luxury feel, but don't mention Mazda, namely the CX-30.
I feel like this and the Trax are GMs way of putting Korea on notice. Will be interesting to see if it works, but in terms of presentation, I think they’re nailing it. I get that the 3 cyl is less than ideal but at least it’s not a CVT.
This one is made in Korea too so it could put them on notice literally and figuratively.
Nice opel
The Buick Envista is built in South Korea and it reminds me of a KIA? The steering is more "DARTY" (as in Dodge Dart) in the Trax?
South Korea bud
@@TedwardDrives I meant South Korea!
