    I've got the first year 6.7 Cummins diesel megacab. It has a little over 600,000 miles on it and still going strong. Finally lost the transmission at 504,000 miles. (I always used Amsoil in the Tranny) I tow all the time with it. It still has the original A/C compressor and starter, motor hasn't been touched. The motor doesn't leak or use any oil yet. I also have a 2014 Cummins megacab with 240,000 miles on it,. It also has been trouble free. So you stated this is our truck of our lifetime. It sure can last your lifetime with proper care and maintenance. Way to go!
    Best advice is never stomp on it until it has reached full operating temp. and allow it to idle 3 minutes after towing to cool every thing down.

    • @duckwacker8720
      @duckwacker8720 5 месяцев назад

      The older 6.7 Cummins still takes 15w-40 oil and is probably deleted like it should be. Your 6.7 and my 5.9 have tappets not hydraulic lifters.

    Pretty cool. I have both a SRW Ram 3500 and DRW Ram 3500. My SRW has the mega cab, and the DRW is Crew Cab Long Bed. When truck shopping I was told it wasn't possible to tow a 5th wheel with a mega cab's short bed length, so I got the long bed instead in the dually. I wish I did what you guys did with that hitch. That's the best of both worlds!

  • @AngelTorres-se9zf
    @AngelTorres-se9zf 6 месяцев назад +9

    Towing with a dually truck is always a better tow no matter who the manufacturer is. Now you don't have to worry about weight issues and breaking is also more confident because your trailer is very well within your trucks tolerances. Congrats on the new truck and enjoy, happy camping guys.

      They don't build the Cummins like they should anymore. The block web is thinner they went with hydraulic lifters and thinner oil. Plus the emissions all adds up to less reliability. If they stick with 5w-40 it should be okay.

    All the unhooking and hooking up to a trailer is one of the big reasons I decided full-time in a motorhome. It’s a lot less hassle for me. And I’ve owned every kind of RV there is in my lifetime less a popup. And the Slide Outs topper situation is the reason I went with true Toppers on my motorhome last year. I love that set up. Torque tip from a nuclear mechanic. Always torque the nut instead of the bolt head if possible. It will give a more accurate torque. Torquing the bolt head may give you a few pounds less than called for. Good job.

All of the quick connects changed on the RV and now will start working on changing out on the house.

    Some of the trailer service centers have the ability to weigh individual axles, so you'll know if nose down or nose high of the trailer changes the load carried on each axle.
    Like you did with the Ford, a CAT scale can be your friend. A nose high trailer will reduce tow vehicle weight distribution. Also a very inexpensive tire tread depth gauge to check the trailer tires will give you a clue on trailer loading.
    With your trailer weighing 16k, you're close to max weight on a tandem axle single wheel trailer.
    Nice looking truck and great sound of the Cummins engine brake..

    I meant to congratulate you on the new truck with the first video. I went to an 8' bed 2 trucks ago in 2017 and will never have another short bed pickup. People like to hand wring over the extra length, but if you're not trying to close a garage door behind it you get used to it. I do think the short bed duallys look weird, but to each his own LOL. I'm glad to see the upgrade is delivering what you expected so far. I have a '22 Ram 3500 Laramie dually, same color, but opted for the sport package (bright wheels and chrome mirrors and grille). Your trailer height looks good to me - truck and trailer both appear level. Only negatives on mine so far is two: 1. those Nexen tires suck. Be religious at keeping the steer tires at 80 psi cold and you might get 20k miles out of them. 2. Factory shocks suck. I have factory air ride, so that may be why. I'll eventually order Bilsteins from Geno's Garage. I'm not a paid endorsement, just a happy customer of Geno's for the last 10 yrs. Too bad you couldn't get the 50 gal fuel tank with that cab/bed, I love mine. Kinda pricey, but there's bigger aftermarket tanks available for your config that would be worth the dough IMO. Enjoy the new truck!

      Hello! Congrats on the decsion to do this RV lifestyle. It is an amazing way to travel and see this beautiful country. We dont really have any videos on cost for this....its just so differant for every person. I can share this insight though......
      We are on year 6 of traveing fulltime. 2.5 years in an 22ft Aistream Sprinter Van...6 months in a rooftop tent...2 years in a travel trailer... and now a year in a 5th wheel.
      We planed and saved for this lifestyle for many years. We've been debt free since 2014. We both woked corporate jobs in MN for 15 plus years.
      We started our own online coaching business in 2018 and hit the road in 2019 and in 2020 RUclips became a big part of it.
      Our first year we proably spent about $2,000- 3,000 per month in expenses and now its much more.
      Sooo many varibles in the budgets for everyone.

Rams tend to take a bit to break in, but once they do I usually saw the MPG jump, sometimes a good 10mpg, and then I knew it was broke in. They just get stronger with age.

    Hi, I have the F-350 Tremor and it is sloppy in steering with just a 6'000 lb trailer. My old F-250 was really tight and comfortable at towing. I wonder if I have something wrong on my Tremor. Do you feel that the steering and control is much better with your dual wheeler?
    Have a great week!!!
    Ryan M.

    • @IreneIronTravels
      @IreneIronTravels  5 месяцев назад

      Hey Ryan! I’ve heard of people complain in the Tremor forums about the steering. Some say it’s the 35in duratrac tires. I’ve heard of people also getting a steering shock/ damper setup. But for us the steering was fine. Our 10k trailer was no problems at all and the 5th wheel actually felt ok too. If you’re feeling all over with a 6k trailer, there is probably something off. Maybe have a good shop check it out. Good luck! The dually does of course feel more grounded and comfortable for our 17k trailer.

    I recently changed to a Ram 3500 4x4 Limited 6.7l longbed dually after being a Ford person for 28 years. I have the Ram onboard air suspension. I am wondering do you have the on board air suspension on your new truck? If you do have the factory air, how do you like it so far?

    • @IreneIronTravels
      @IreneIronTravels  6 месяцев назад +4

      I actually opted to not get the air suspension and just go with the standard 7 leaf spring pack with 2 overloads. I've had air suspension in 2 of my vehicles before... and while it's really great when everything is working....there can be complications down the road. Repairs are expensive and time consuming, so we opted for the standard. But Ive heard RAM people love it. 👍

  • @Jc-bo1uu

    You should have gotten a Chevrolet or even a GMC. You would have liked it better. GM makes a better truck, and they have such a better ride quality. The ride is much smoother. And with GM trucks you can have a shot bed single rear wheel 3500/ 1 ton truck and pull your trailer just fine. I have one and I pull 25,000 pounds all the time and it does just fine. And sometimes I even pull up around 30,000 pounds. And if you do your own maintenance on your truck a would highly recommend Amsoil signature series oil and Amsoil oil filter. It will save you money in the long run with longer oil change in revolts and better fuel mileage.
