As far as bang for your buck, this is the best synth Dave has ever made. I like the P6 and OB6 too....but I find myself using the Rev2 more. Always have an extra envelope, an extra LFO, 2 or 4-pole filter....its just so flexible.
Just loaded up both sound sets. My REV2 sounds like a real Prophet now!! I really like the fact that almost all of your patches are NOT using the built-in reverb of the REV2. Instead, you add the built-in delays or phaser or chorus. It's so much better to do it this way so that you get the benefit of a specialized effect on each patch. Then you can add your own dedicated higher quality reverb like I do with my Strymon. Also, the use of velocity, aftertouch, and mod wheel on almost all the patches really adds to the ability to play expressively. Both of your sound sets provide both well-known sounds but also quite a few unique offerings that will really help to spice things up! Thanks again for these 2 great sound sets!
3:57 This "human voice" patch reminds me of your Farfisa Soundmaker demo, where a similar sound can be heard after around 19 seconds. Nice to hear that it's possible to recreate that sound with a modern machine.
Another amazing video! Honestly, I think you’re one of the best synth players on RUclips: you show off the capabilities of each machine you play on perfectly!
I just bought this set tonight and have spent a couple of hours playing through it. Wow. This is what the Rev2 is supposed to sound like. These patches really make the board show off its capabilities. Fat and rich, plus smooth and creamy....like a Prophet should sound! Congrats on some amazing programming.
I just purchased these patches from AnalogAudio and am very happy about it. The REV2 is advertised as a beginner-friendly, do-it-all synth, but unfortunately (for my taste) most of the factory presets are wild and designed to show off the ridiculous capabilities of the synth in stack and split mode. This set of sounds gave me the classic synth sounds I had in mind when buying the REV2 - well worth $28 USD.
just bought this last night and just wow... these are the patches the prophet should have came with. i hope you come out with another one for the prophet rev 2!!
I got these a few days ago and WOW, who knew the Rev 2 could sound so amazing, with just one layer too!! I have the 16 voice Rev 2, and it's so good with these patches. Thank you
Got the patches onto my Rev2 now. Sound great. For some reason the first laptop I tried wouldn’t recognise the Rev2 in the Mid Ox software so I used my other one and it worked straight away.
I thought these patches were already fat as is, but since I have the 16 voice version, I copied layer A into layer B and doubled up the layers on the same patch and wow, even better, and the sound is huge
I just got a Rev 2 16 voice. And I will buy these patches! How do you copy layer A into layer B? I will probably find the solution in the manual, but if you can simplify it for me, that would be great. ;)
@@AnalogAudio1 Don't let that stop you. I will loan you mine to produce the presets, and then turn around and buy the presets...lol! [Damn!, looks like you are on the other side of the pond, the shipping costs more that the presets lol]
These knobs are nicer than the knobs on the older DSI synths...but the rubber on them ends too shortly and you end up grabing the textured metal at the end and it feels weird....lol....cant wait until he moves on to another knob type. Otherwise, DSI has some of the best build quality in the business. Can't wait for his new synth coming out in the future built upon the technology of the PolyEvolver. I wonder when it will be announced and/or released? Trust me, Dave saw what Korg just did....and he is about to raise the bar.
STEVE SLIGHT yes, i had the p12 for 6 months and did a demo, and now have the rev 2......rev 2 can be warmer, rev 2 does classic brass better, and the Vangelis stuff is great. P12 is its own thing w crazy modulation and more wave form choices.
JVMC this is the first video to really make me consider the rev 2. I have a Prophet 6 and was never blown away by the stock rev 2 patches. However, after playing a OB-6 recently I’ve been really GASing for the SEM state variable filter design. I have Peak, Virus, Microwave XT, in addition to Prophet 6. I’ve been looking at System 8, OB-6 & DM12 but now after seeing this am undecided. I’ve been GASing hard for OB-6, what do you think given my synths and choices I’m looking at?
@@shawnsaul7759 Know I'm late with an answer/opinion, but I have a System-8 which is great for Juno/Jupiter and the FM oscillator options/effects, an OB-6 which is gritty and huge (but can also sound gorgeous with the SVF), and the Prophet Rev2, which offers the most modulation options by far. I'm very impressed with this patch set and will be purchasing. The stock set is pretty harsh/non-musical overall. This renews my faith in the range of sounds you can get from this board. How do you like Prophet-6? It may very well be my next synth, but I want to be sure it doesn't sound to redundant to OB-6 with its similar feature set.
These patches do sound really good on the whole. Have you used the Vintage Voice Modelling technique where the step sequencer is used to create Oscilator instability?
Thanks! Years of experience with Sequential synths, good ears and also several months of work on these patches made this result possible. Indeed, partly I used some tricks with oscillator stability, there are many ways with the modulation matrix.
You should try to create analog sound patches using the Novation Peak! Curious to see if it can do some of the same sounds. I am between these two synths right now.
@analogue would you create a udemy course on sound design using the rev2? I think that a lot of users would pay for your time and knowledge! Weekly basis would work to. You could start by setting up a mailing list to see how many would be interested
This sounds very nice, danke :-) Question: I own an 8 voice Rev2 myself - would your sound set be suitable for the 8 voice or is it "better" for 16 voice version?
I got the P6 about 3 weeks ago, and love it! It alsomade me realize how amazing of a synth the Rev 2 is, which I also have. Though there is some overlap of course. the Rev 2 does have a sound of it's own. It can sound really glittery and sugary, whereas the P6 is more kindof thick and creamy. Both awesome synths! btw Sequential should hire you to do their presets from now on, instead of whoever the clown is that does it right now ;)
Did you buy one? I got mine "B stock", 16 voice keyboard for £1185 free delivery. Only a very slight blemish on the wood cheek. Awesome synth. so pleased with it.
The Sequential Prophet Rev 2 and the DSI are the same right? Just wanted to make sure before I purchase these patches. Great sounds by the way. Absolutely love the nostalgic sounds you've created here.
Love this demo. I'm considering selling my Virus Ti2 to buy a new polyphonic 'analogue' synth and the Rev2 is currently topping my list. Out of interest, can you stream audio/midi data between the Rev2 and a DAW using USB cable? Or do you need to use the more old fashioned MIDI In/Out ports to transfer midi info to and from the synth?
Do you believe as I’m in 2 minds now this sounds really soulful I did want the ob6 and now I’ve saved up for one which would you go for perhaps the 8 voice and any other Dave smith to go with it up against getting the ob6 it’s a hard one for me as all I can go on so far is what I’ve heard on hear and as you know your craft and I don’t a simple answer would be good enough please

To me, to be a Prophet it needs VCOs....I don't hate DCOs....I just give it hell for not sticking to the original. Now the Prophet 6....love it. This synth would have more love from me if it did not have the Prophet name. Still better than the Mopho though. The OB-6 (either version) and the PolyEvolver Keyboard are my favorites from DSI.
@@passivehouseaustralia4406 There's no need to add A there. Every DCO in essence is just analog oscillator, just it's pitch is driven by digital source. I think you're mixing DCO with digital oscillator. Purely digital oscillator would be called numerically-controlled oscillator aka NCO.
