Just watched an OB-X8 / Prophet 16 voice Rev2 comparison video. The big sonic difference in the Rev2 vs. the OB-X8 seems to me is the “sizzle” and the bottom end. The OB-X8 seems to have a slightly deeper bottom end than the Rev2, but they basically seem on par in the “sizzle” department-though I would characterize the OB’s high end as more “sharp” for lack of a better word and the Rev2’s high end as softer and warmer. @@brennanmcnally Hi Brennan. ☺ Most sound designers who share/advertize their soundsets via RUclips get asked that question. I have read a large number of their responses, and I do not recall even one of them stating that the 8-voice version sounds inferior in an obvious way. That means Luke's soundset with impress you & your listeners/audience with the 8-voice version. ☺ For most styles of music, the main limitation with the 8-voice version occurs if you're playing in Split or Stacked mode. If you happen to have 'busy'/complex parts in both synth engine A and synth engine B, then you may experience 'voice stealing', cut-outs/drop-outs, etc.. So, in that case, the more limited polyphony of the 8-voice version may be an issue. Also, I have read comments from some owners who upgraded their synth to the 16-voice version, and they found that copying a single-layer patch into both synth engine A and synth engine B did produce a slightly fuller & deeper tone when playing in Stacked mode. Therefore, I would suggest this: If your budget limits you to the 8-voice version, don't feel as if you should wait until you can afford the 16-voice version. The fact is that you will be very happy with the 8-voice version & the sounds you will use/create will sound excellent by anybody's standards. And keep this in mind: If you find that polyphony is an issue, or you want to give some patches a slight boost in thickness, presence & depth, you can either sell your 8-voice & purchase a 16-voice, or you can purchase the upgrade kit that Dave Smith/Sequential sells on their website, then install it to give you 16-voices. @@lukeneptune3820 Hi Luke , thanks for the reply. To be honest after hearing your sounds i'm edging towards the Dsi Rev 2 16 voice as it sounds so lush and versatile at its price point.
it's most likely PWM-based strings that are layered: layerA: playing in low octaves, 2 pole filter mode with fairly closed filter and some slight smooth attack/decay filter envelope with chorus, layer B: higher octaves, LFO modulation of OSC frequency, chorus again. In fact chorus is a thing that usually makes the tone sound much smoother and sorta "flowing"
You are a great sound designer! I stumbled upon your channel while trying to find comparisons between the REV2 and the Summit. I love both synths and can’t make up my mind which one to choose. I have a lot of digital sound engines in my studio and I am looking for an analogue poly to complement them. Good to know that you offer sound banks for both!
I could play that Pad/lead split @ 5:24 for an hour++! Takes me back to video game soundtracks crossover with house. Btw, I'm jumping back here after listening to the Summit patches and I'm in disbelief that those samples sound nothing like the character that I'm hearing from the Rev2 in these videos? Yet people in those comments (Novation Summit) love it. Compared to the flavor (not the sound design) I'm picking up on these Rev2 samples, I would never choose the Summit over the Rev2. @@mpmi7588 I keep going back and forth between this and P6. But what has me coming back to the Rev2 is the bi timbral feature that is lacking on P6, unless you go up to the P10! You've probably made your purchase by now, but I will say that the OB6 & P-6 instantly take you into 80s nostalgia territory, especially the OB-6. However, they both can do a more modern take on Synth Wave. So, if you have those two, you are covered for most sounds, except Roland ones. If you can only afford one, the Rev.2 may be the most flexible & versatile, it has the ability to do layering & splits, and it has a much more extensive mod-matrix. To be honest after hearing your sounds i'm edging towards the Dsi Rev 2 16 voice as it sounds so lush and versatile at its price point.
Hi, in which bank will these presets go? I got bank 2 or 3 free for custom banks.
Lovely soundset! Will it work well on Prophet 08 (non Rev2)?
anyone know how he got the soft strings sound? damn that was tasty
it's most likely PWM-based strings that are layered: layerA: playing in low octaves, 2 pole filter mode with fairly closed filter and some slight smooth attack/decay filter envelope with chorus, layer B: higher octaves, LFO modulation of OSC frequency, chorus again.
Which did you get? Happy with your decision?
Happy Anniversary, Darling! 😉
Anyone else noticing this or am I hearing/not hearing things?
Are these sequences? They sound amazing.
Would be awesome if you were working on a soundtrack soundset for the Rev
mybiggrin I am 😃 It will be out in about 10 days!
Great set and all of your patches!
Say, this is 8 or 16 version for?)
i can only purchase with paypal?
Great demonstration videos! 😁
Great sounds! Can you tell me what monitors or headphones did you work with while programming these?
Can i use these patches with tetra?
Amazing job
Thanks! :D
Deffo getting this when I get paid at the end of the month! Would have got it immediately, but I overspent on an SE-02
I was just about to chuck my Rev2 in the trash .. then came across these sounds and bought em. Thanks Luke Neptune 👍
What song is playing at the beginning?
For you vs ob6... Which things touch you the most with ob6 and rev2? Thanks
is this processed with external FX?
Appena ricevuto il tuo soundset, grazie e spero di poterlo provare il più presto possibile ;)
Suoni meravigliosi :O
The knobs are soft to the touch, i mean rubberized like silicone? Thanks
Hi Luke! This sounds great. Which bank do these patches load into?
Hi Peter. They load into bank 3.
Do these Patches work on the Prophet 08 ?
Carl I’m afraid not
Nice Video! Can you used the Sequencer in real time?
Is here some mastering/eq or it's raw sound?
Yes, I’m wondering what the recording chain was for these demos before purchasing please?!
What's the very last synth-pad called, please?
It looks like I forgot to name that one in the demo video and I can’t remember what it’s called but it will be in the soundset somewhere
@@lukeneptune3820 Call it monsterjazzlicks 😎
@@monsterjazzlicks haha good name 😁
Is it recorded through a preamp
Hi Luke! Is it possible to install this presets in the Prophet 08?? Thanks
I’m afraid not. Just the Rev2
@@lukeneptune3820 Bummer
Do i need to do the REV16? or can i do the 8
Would these work with og Prophet 08?
I want to buy this but the site says not secure
This sounds so damn good! I am looking to buy a REV2 since September and I think this soundset just sold it to me. Gonna purchase this for sure once I have the unit!!
I was gonna get a P6 but I think this will do fine
@@mpmi7588 I keep going back and forth between this and P6. But what has me coming back to the Rev2 is the bi timbral feature that is lacking on P6, unless you go up to the P10!
I already have a Model D clone, so I am wondering if I won't really need a P6 for VCO if I get a Rev2 after all? Also will get 2 more voices with an option to expand up to 16 with the expansion kit. At least that's my current state of logical thinking.
@@ghostfrom1950 I ended up getting a pro 3 so I could have the SEQUENTIAL sound and sample it into one of my samplers and make it a poly with unlimited notes to be played multi timbrally and with a cooler sequencer.
@@mpmi7588 Interesting direction. I would consider the Take 5. But my biggest issue is space. So I was considering the Desktop Rev2 or a desktop P6. Oddly enough, Matt Johnson in his video had a lot of criticisms about the Take5. It suprsied me
@@ghostfrom1950 yeah the take 5 came out after I purchased the polybrute. I don't even play keys so for analog poly sound designing, I feel as though I've made off very nicely. Had that take 5 came out a bit earlier, I'd have gotten it
Hi Luke, So is this collection £15.99 (with the 'Jubilee' discount)? Paul
That’s correct. The usual price is £24.99
@@lukeneptune3820 is there a further discount if you purchase, say, two items? Just wondering.
@@monsterjazzlicks unfortunately not whilst this sale is on
@@lukeneptune3820 OK, no problem.
WHAT?!?! Is this even real?! I need to know because I will totally buy this pack.
Grant Floering it’s real 😁
Are these made with the 8 voice or 16 voice?
@@grantfloering They were made on the 8 voice so if you have a 16 voice it will sound even better :)
@@lukeneptune3820 amazing. sending you an email now.
Just bought this set today. Great job, Luke!
Thanks Gord!
i can by this presetsto patch prophet? or these are sound samples?
Andrew K they are not samples. They are midi Sysex files for the DSI Prophet Rev2 :)
Rev2 or P6? And why
I wanna buy these haha but i dont know. does anyone know whats better for 70s 80s synth pop sound the prophet 6 ob6 or the Rev 2
IMHO, the P-6 & OB-6 have a superior quality of sound....pro studio quality in fact, but the Rev.2 is good too. Listen to all of Luke's P-6, OB-6 & Rev.2 soundsets here on YT (there are a lot), and try all three synths in the stores if you can.
11:42 awesome melody
Does it work for the prophet 08?
i'm afraid not :(
do they include sequences?
No just the patches.
I cannot access your site...
