So the villains of the bionicle universe were cops who took down some dangerous criminals and then realized that there was nothing stopping them from doing the same things but bigger. Huh.

Mine has to be Krika probably because although he chose Teridax's side, he was wise, self-aware (sort of reminded me of Miserix) and also somewhat on-the-fence with being allied to Teridax, as if he didn't want to but he knew it was his predicament.
Even Tahu for such depravity in killing Krika (by the hands of the sister he tried to warn) was tempted this close to break his Toa Code of no killing to murder Krika's killer through horrible way - slow melting alive with his fire.
I've only known Makuta (who I never knew was called "Teridax") from the movies growing up, and I've never known that there were more than one of him. But this guy was on Megatron levels of tyranny.
I thought the Makuta was a just a singular being. A sort of Bionicle Satan to Mata Nui’s God. Or maybe like Skyrim’s Lorkhan and Akatosh. Specifically the one named Teridax, which I didn’t even know that name until now. Eventually merging with the Mask of Light to awaken Mata Nui. Now understanding what his destiny was, protect the Matoran. It’s strange knowing he wasn’t a single Bionicle. Just one of many Makutas. Even stranger that Teridax wasn’t freed from the Protodermis by his followers, or even follow him to the lands of Mata Nui to help.
Technically Teridax was freed by Roodaka, who was his follower or at least an opportunist temporarily on his side. Only Toa could break the seal. Teridax is a good strategist. He didn't need backup on the island of Mata Nui. There hadn't been any Toa to fight him in the 1000 years he was there and when they showed up Makuta could have killed them at any time he pleased. He didn't because he needed them so they could turn him into a mechanical god. The only threat was the Toa of Light. He had hoped there never would be one and when he could not prevent his coming he found a way to both evade an elemental fight and fake his death. The other Makuta stayed on their position, fought wars in his name and secured the political and military power of the Brotherhood during his absence.
It's a shame he never realized his true destiny: to freely be given dominion over Matataia, while Mata Nui would move on to inhabit his prototype body so the two of them could work together and heal Bara Magna.
Bitil is my favourite Makuta. Summoning versions of yourself from the past is such a cool mask power. Sometimes he just wakes up with random injuries from his future battles. I remember in the book, he was terrified because he hadn’t woke up with any injuries recently which made Bitil suspect his future death. He’s one of the less important Makuta. He’s not a titan, or a super-cool looking villain with a lot of focus but Bitil has stuck with me more than all the rest.
Thank you for making these videos, you are awesome!!! Next year there's a good chance LEGO will re-release some of the OG Bionicles which also means more attention for Bionicle. :)
Yeah, it originally worked how you described it where Mata Nui and Makuta were brothers. Later on, the Makuta were retconned to be a species, and the original Makuta was renamed Teridax.
All 100 Makuta were created from antidermis by Mata Nui, true, but unbeknownst to even him, Makuta Teridax was gifted by the Great Beings a greater destiny: to be freely given dominion over Matataia so Mata Nui could inhabit his prototype body and work together to heal Spherus Magna. In that regard, it can truly be said that Makuta is Mata Nui's brother. All of Teridax's talents, his Plan...they didn't arise from nowhere. A shame that, for all his intelligence, he never realized his destiny before he was too far gone.
