Thanks for all the info in the video, I was able to troubleshoot why my Cummins ISB was having issues with leaking oil from the turbo since spring. I noticed a little bit of loss of power too for the past couple of months and thought the turbo was a goner. Checked the turbo and everything seemed alright at first glance, no whistling, turbine wheel looked good, no noises, just the oil leaking between the pipe joints and silicone hoses going to the intercooler. Changed the air filter in spring, so that couldn't have been an issue, return lines looked good, another thing I could check and be easy for me to change was the crankcase filter. Turns out, that was the issue, ever since I changed that, no leaks coming from the turbo and no more loss of power. Thanks again for the great video!
Thank you for sharing your experience. We are glad our videos are helpful. 👍🏼
Our company has been rebuilding and distributing turbochargers for 25years and this guy knows what he is talking about I am glad there are shops like his that knows how to diagnose a turbocharger, there have been countless times we inform the customer that leaks on the compressor side of his turbo are almost never a turbocharger failure and that before purchasing the turbo with us they must check for all that you mention in this video. Next time I will just send them this video to make sure they are making an informed purchase!
We appreciate the support. Be sure to hit that sub button. Thanks 🔧👊🏼💪🏼
What's your shops number so I can call?
I would definitely trust this man to work on my truck.
Can you please make a video on DD's turbo removal procedures? Thank you!
Ulises Gonzalez sure make sure to subscribe so your notified when we get to that video topic. 🔧👊🏼🇺🇸🇨🇱💪🏼
Appreciate your approach to diagnostics. Common sense.
Good job brother where you location
exelente demonstration senor mecanico y gracias por tus videos saludos from chicago
3 thumbs down?
What is wrong with people? I think this video was full of good information. Totally answered the title question. Allot of stupid people watching RUclips.
Thanks for watching and thank you for the support. Make sure to subscribe and turn on notifications.
It is not always because of the pressure difference but can also be the seals of the turbine shaft i have seen that often and most of the time is that
Nathaniel, thanks for your input. You are right, some turbos have seals that could leak. This DD15 turbo has seals similar to piston rings so the only way oil can leak is by Passover. Thank you for watching.
true,i have seen this in mercedes trucks with similar engines, mostly it's the seals that fail inside turbo core assembly, pressure difference isn't often and highly unlikely cause of leak..
Great explanation Adam, aint nothin to it but to do it. Thanks
Rusty Glovebox thanks for watching. 🇺🇸🔧👊🏼💪🏼🇨🇱
Finally some Chicano vato good at what he does .... Hey question just bought a western star 2016 what things should I do to it right off the bat??
Thanks for watching. What type of engine does it have and how many miles?
@@TATEXPRESSINC dd16 I got 300k on it
I have experience of 12 years working on diesel heavy trucks.. is there any vacancy for me in your workshop ? I m very excited to work with you..please reply sir
Hello friend! Thanks for the video, I have this code on my dash SPN 102, FMI 16, air intake system problem detected, can you said me what could be happen please, DD15 engine, thanks in advance
How do know when these issues will pop up, or are there maintenance checks you can do to find issues before they become a problem? My last truck the turbo leaked and messed up my one box around 700k. Would gladly pay $4k to replace a turbo over paying $20k+ to fix emissions system.
Thank You Guys..Valuable info
so how much does a new turbo cost man? labor? Isn't this video about how much the thing costs?
At least in 2020 (before inflation) he said $4000 to $4500....Now if I had to put a number on it with labor probably $7000-$8000
Great video! excellent explanation.
KCK Lubricants thanks for watching. Make sure to subscribe. 👊🏼🔧🇨🇱🇺🇸💪🏼
Thanks. I have a 2005 J4500 and it's leaking now. I really would like to know why.
Great videos brother! Very informative! I already subbed after watching your common issues dd15 video. Any knowledge on that turbo oil drain tube that goes back to the block? I got an oil leak coming from that spot. Is it hard to change?
Thanks and keep up the good work!
nice video, great quality picture and good content
Incredible Fendt thanks for watching. 🇺🇸🇨🇱👊🏼🔧💪🏼
Can you tell me about blocking Turbine off on DD15?
Have brought truck to 2 shops now first was independent 2nd freightliner dealer. Truck is losing oil at the rate of 1 gallon every 200 miles. There are no leaks, they looked at all obvious places oil could be going and found nothing. Freightliner dealer emailed Detroit and they said remove turbo and check for differentials in pressure but mechanics at the dealer are saying if that were the case they would see some oil somewhere as we've gone through 40 gallons in the last few weeks. Have you heard of anything like this? Also it started suddenly after never losing any oil.
Great stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Hi, I recently bought a 2019 cascadia 125. The truck hesitates when accelerating when below 60-70km/h but once I drive at highway speeds 70km and above it becomes okay... then the problem also goes away for day or two. Don't have any lights or issues showing in the system either...... any pointers what to look for please ?
Great sir thank you
Thank you Sr.
With all of the different power offerings from dTROIT, from 1 tune to another... Is there anything that requires physically different parts? (I.E. Is it all just software & all of the nuts & bolts are the same, or no?)
Im assuming from the DD15 to the DD16, theres different sleeves, pistons & higher flow injectors -But... is there anything else?
What could be the problem when my truck is in a pull I hear a whistling sound
What happens when turbo will not turn freely.. stuck not moving?
Ronald, it could be bearings seized. What type of engine? Also if you replace turbo make sure to change oil and filters.
Hi, I have a problem with my 2012 Cascadia 700k miles. Just cleaned filters put them back in and when I wanted to do forced regen it starts but instead of staying on 1500RPM it goes back to 1100 for a second and then back to 1500 for 5-10 seconds and then goes down again and circles like that all the time… DOC temp is around 380 when it starts but slowly getting up. Had to stop doing regen because I thought something is broken… no fault codes except the NOx sensor permanent… do you think it’s only nox or something more serious? My mechanic tells me it’s probably turbo not building up the temperature, but turbo shouldn’t make my engine RPM go low from time to time while doing forced regen. Never had any issues with this truck whatsoever
If it’s oil in turbo it has to be changed or just fix the same turbo?
You say if the oil pressure is higher than boost pressure it will leak into boost side of turbo. Not so, because boost pressure is never high as oil pressure
How long can you drive when the turbo goes out?
Can a bad turbo cause a check emgine light for low intake pressure? I have a cel with system intake problem, derate 25%.
I want to take my truck with you for diagnostic! Do I have to make appointment?
I keep getting this code Eng 2 001 spn002631 01 I'm having to pull over to shut my truck down for it to reset itself or what ever it's doing so I can get my power back.
I got the turbo replaced on my 2015 freightliner cascadia with a DD15 motor. And I got it back out the shop and it sounds like air blowing out constantly.. And even louder when Accelerating. It sounds like a whale releasing air out of its blow hole. And has no whistle sound at all like it sounded before it got relplaced. Or like most trucks turbos out on the roads sound.. Why does it sound like that, what did they do wrong replacing turbo? CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME OUT WITH THIS PROBLEM I CAN'T SEEM FIND ANY VIDEO OR INFORMATION ON THIS??? I feel like this mechanic is ripping me off...
How often crack case filter needs replacement?
Recommendation when to do oil changes filter changes in a DD 15?
vocational 25k highway 50k
(maximums if you ask me)
I remember when turbos cost $1200, new stuff is overpriced.
I have freightliner cascadia dd15 2020 200000 miles on it when I go uphill my turbo goes up to only 25 psi not more than that and the hill I used to climb 45 mph with same weight . Now my truck climb at 30mph .otherwise in plain areas it runs good . Can you help me please
Do you guys do consulting online
How do you regularly service the crankcase breather?
make sure to change the engine oil regularly so all possible debris that may clogg it is taken away.
Hello I have a dd15 that it loose power when climbing hills with a load what could be the problem
The hill is the problem lol
whats up adam plan to buy 2016 dd15 615k miles on it u recommed changing the oil pick up tube first ?before using it thanks
Rex, be sure to sub. I would recommend checking maintenance records and having truck checked by an outside shop.
Some help with Detroit 14 littles, no power
I have a 2013 Cascadia with a dd15. I have been getting a noise that sounds like a moped or a propeller towards my passenger side. It only makes the noise when the truck struggles towards higher rpms and sometimes when I slow down with my jakes. It does not do it on idle and it does not do it on regen. I have an exhaust smell right after it happens. Freightliner in okc looked twice and couldn’t find exhaust leaks. Any ideas what it could be?
Austin Harris I am at the shop now I have a few minutes. Give me a call 972-225-3017

TAT Express Inc. will do. Thank you again.
Hey i have dd15 wen i go uphills and 40k load my temperature go high and i get check engine light on any idea why thanks
Mo, do you hear the engine fan turning on?
@@TATEXPRESSINC yes and if is flat or down hill temperatures is fine only wen going up hill
If you know the fan is working correctly, inspect the cooling system, the radiator, and the water pump. Do you get a engine shut down alarm?
@@TATEXPRESSINC I change the water pump fan working do you think thermostat has som to do with it ?
No engine alarm .. temperature will go down wen i get Flat land or down hill thanks
5 grand please no, that's why I started buyin tools n doin it myself.
What's the best ENGINE..... Cummings or detroit
Cumming is better but not has much. Dd15, dd16 are more affordable to fix. I feel that Cummins is more troublesome because of all egr,Def,doc, an filter . These components need too be checked an service often. The DD series is a good reliable engine. I had to inframe my DD13, my cost was 15k, it had more then a million miles. My 2009 international isx eng was a pain in tha ass, my cost to total inframe was almost 25k. Never again I am getting a isx eng
Isn't the volume low...or it's just me?
oil pick up tube seal ?
Rex, are you asking about the lower o-ring for the oil pick up tubes?
yes sir
Like yourr vids but on this one the title does not match the content
4 minute video with a 40 second intro.. wtf man
5,000 k. To replace your turbo. Yeah. Warning. Don't go to this dudes shop
