Ms. Lee's reaction is about to become the most famous meme in American history. I felt that joy. OMG!!
@Schizo Tazer One day more than you, whoever you are...
I love that Jon Baptiste hit the exact note on the piano that Ms. Opal was hollering. Such a fun and talented dude.
Hello
He's so energized by having a live studio audience. I enjoyed the quieter pandemic shows but it's great to see Colbert so excited.
I agree. His "home office" late show format was perfect. He definitely laughed a lot more and let his hair down with it (literally in the beginning lol).
Plus his wife being there made it feel like a fun family RUclips show. The live studio audience format is like a 90s sitcom. Most shows don't use them anymore
@@trialanderror7508 Agreed. I actually think I won't keep watching as regularly as I was before. I wouldn't mind an audience if it sounded less fake. Ugh, I hate fake-cheering. (How I notice? Well, sometimes the laughter starts before the joke is done)
@@trialanderror7508 ugh agreed. I much preferred the quarantine format. I really, really, REALLY hate studio audiences. So much wasted time on the sound of laughter and the host awkwardly having to wait for them to calm the fuck down.

As a Texan, this hurt hilariously
As a fellow Texan, I agree
Opal Lee is a legend!
I had never heard her story until Rachel Maddow told it -- either last night or night before last, I've forgotten which -- and I'm SO glad I learned about her when the holiday was declared, and that the holiday was declared while she's still alive!

I have no idea why that isn't already a thing.
For many years on Election Day Canada has required every employer to give every worker up to 3 hours paid leave from their job in order to ensure that they have enough time to vote.
Hell yeah it should be
And it should be! So you don’t have to take time off from work.
@@gemelwalters2942 I know why, but here's to correcting that mess: National holiday for federal elections!!
As a Texan I’m pissed that the gov is putting money toward a stupid wall when the power grid can’t handle heat or cold.
I feel so bad for you all
As another Texas, I agree..this is stupid and idiotic use of resources. Fix the power grid!
That's what you voted for when you picked Republican.
Gov. Abbott just wants to have a "win" for his reelection
Well well well now you don't want a wall but still want Trump?
Can we just take a moment to appreciate VP Harris's obvious joy at getting to announce this, and the reactions to it that were shown? Beautiful and infectious.
I love how some people are acting like this was a huge accomplishment, BUT we don't even have a National Voting Day. Lol
@@shameless5444 after four years of sliding backwards, any progress is good progress. The ideas that "we still desperately need to do X" and "Y is a significant, if singular, step in the right direction" can coexist.
So yes, this *is* significant. And yes, we *also* need to make voting day a federal holiday. You can push for one without tearing down the other.
@@aliciacordero8399 These small steps are easy and insignificant, given the real big problems (pandemic, economy, environment, terrorism, nuclear weapons, immigration, crime, education, etc). We shouldn't celebrate moving a pebble when we have many boulders that have been barely scratched. These are false, feel good victories. These problems haven't been seriously worked on or resolved for decades and decades.
@@shameless5444 the pandemic is on the way to being over, nothing really for the federal government to do there besides ask people to get the vaccine again. Crime and education take time and finesse to get right, and crime also requires comprehensive reform, so you won't be seeing those solved 5½ months into a first term. The FBI has been and keeps on rounding up the terrorists who tried to overthrow our government in January.
But besides all that, visibility matters. To use your analogy, things that to you seem like an insignificant pebble can, from another perspective, actually be the first chip out of those big boulders. Not to mention we just dealt with four years of purposefully ignoring even the pebbles; it's not wrong to see one being addressed after that and feel hopeful that it's a sign of things to come.
