- Worx offers "free spools for life" for their line trimmers/weed whackers, but they charge you 10 bucks for a shipping and handling fee! Here I show you how you can refill your own spools for around 60 cents per spool using cheap trimmer line from Harbor Freight.
Thank you for your video. I love the ease of use and cordless operation, but the spools are ridiculously small. We have 1/4 acre, with a house, patio and shed on it, so not a huge yard. It takes at least 3 spools to trim and edge. They don't take them back for refilling? So, we just dump piles of these spools into landfills? I currently have a bag of about 20 empties. I was refilling my own, but it spits out a big chunk of that line every spool. I'll never make this mistake again. Other trimmer/edgers lasted 3 spools a year-not per mow!
So are you using the refill trimmer line from Harbor Freight or something else? How long are your refilled spools lasting compared to the spools from Worx? I haven't really kept a close eye on it, but I can say with certainty that the Harbor Freight trimmer line seems to last a lot longer. I'm not changing out the spools near as often now as what I used to.
@@silentskystudios The spools I rolled were line my husband got at Home Depot or Lowes. I finished those and am currently using Worx spools I got online. There's a Harbor Freight right down the road from us, so I am going to get what you use. Thanks again!
Same here, I am using .065 line and it does the same, very aggravating!
Thanks for sharing 👍
Worx should redesign the spools making them larger. The current ones last one time.
You may find that refilling the spools with some different trimmer line will make them last longer. The trimmer line from Worx seems to be a much softer plastic than some other brands, which causes the spool to run out much faster. Using some tougher, stronger line will help.
Thank you so much for this video!!
Sure thing, glad to help!
This was helpful, thanks!
Thank you!
Glad to help!
What these tiny little spools from Worxs are a piece of crap. You’re constantly rewinding them because 10 foot isn’t enough to do a regular size lawn. Come on what were they thinking?
Yeah, I feel like the plastic used for the trimmer line from Worx is too soft, which causes you to burn through the spools way too quickly. This stuff from Harbor Freight seems like the plastic is a little tougher/stiffer, which tends to make it last longer than the stuff from Worx.
And frankly, the "free spools for life" is a bit of a gimmick. By the time you pay for the shipping and handling, it's about 10 bucks for 6 spools. You can buy aftermarket refills on Amazon and get more spools for the same amount of money--although I can't attest to the quality of those after-market spools, as I've never tried them.
@@silentskystudios agreed. And it's annoying that they limit you to one bag per $10 order. I looked into the Amazon options last year. Ultimately, poor reviews convinced me to "roll my own." I've done that with previous trimmers, but I wasn't burning through 3 spools every week!
Wow...... I just purchased 20 pre-spooled spools on ebay for $3.50 🤯. Way better than restringing the 1 spool you have I think. Haven't received the spools yet so we'll see how good the line is
Can I use square shape wire instead of round and automatic feed would still work?
Not sure about that. This stuff from Harbor Freight is 7-sided. If you already have some of the square-shaped line, you could try it, and I doubt that it would hurt anything. It just might not auto feed properly.
