    Match 4 Game 1 you could have won through the Atraxa, Glissa giving Phyrexians First Strike and Deathtouch is lethal because if they block a 9/9 Atraxa doesn't gain life and you still have a 3/3 and a 4/4, so they have to kill Glissa, in which case attacking with everything kills them since they don't have more removal and 7-9-3-4+7=-2, so they lose, Atraxa doesn't gain enough life.

    • @erix33
      @erix33 Год назад +22

      They would still gain life if they block a 9/9. Since Jinnie Fay made those tokens cats instead of Phyrexians, they wouldn't get first strike.

      @@erix33 You're right! Still, I don't think it merits conceding though

    • @LegendaryTy6
      @LegendaryTy6 Год назад +47

      No, the phyrexians would deal first strike damage, he has a 4/4 and a 3/3 phyrexian, which is 7 damage exactly, so they would do first strike damage to the opponent, before the cats were dealt damage by Atraxa to gain life. So they wouldn’t have a block that would keep them alive.

    • @LegendaryTy6
      @LegendaryTy6 Год назад +9

      In order for the opponent to survive, they would need to use the go for the throat on the 4/4, they would go down to one, so he still loses, but there was a line where the opponent could have messed up, but blocking the 9/9 wouldn’t gain life if he was already dead to first strike damage

    • @TheCrackler
      @TheCrackler Год назад

      The Cats are not Phyrexians though, are they? So blocking a 9/9 (without first strike) would still give the opponent 7 life, and if the kill the other 9/9, they can take 7 damage from the 3/3 and 4/4 "comfortably" and remain at 7 life. So in the end, it would be Glissa, the Vatkeeper and the token vs. an empty board and a full hand. Not at all a scoopworthy position, but far from lethal as well. Or am I missing something?

    Incubate was one of those mechanics where my evaluation was waaaay off. I mostly play commander, and thought i probably wouldn't use it much. Then i played a game with it. I had an unwrathable set of creatures, ready to pop out at instant speed for just two mana. I had blockers without actually having to commit to the board.

    I think a lot of people looked at Invasion of Gobakhin and immediately compared it to Elite Spellbinder but forgot that one of the reasons spellbinder was so good was because it can also attack your opponenet. The battle doesn't.

      Yea and I think soul partition is mostly just better if you really want the "2 more to cast" effect because 1. It's instant speed 2. You are removing something your opponent already invested mana into, and forcing them to re-invest that much mana plus 2, so it could easily be wasting them at least 4 or 5 mana, whereas Gobakhan just wastes them a fixed amount of 2 mana and nothing more. If soul partition doesn't see play, I don't think Gobakhan ever will.

    It's wild that out of all the ridiculous creatures the Atraxa deck had (atsushi, toxrill, Atraxa, etc) Sheoldred was the most miserable to play against. It wins games without doing anything and that's by far the strongest effect out of the sequel praetor cycle the

  • @Rococorico
    @Rococorico Год назад +21

    Jinnie Fay + Incubate is amazing! About Invasion of Gobakhan, I have to agree. It's probably better in low to the ground 8-12 1-drop decks than it is in a combo-ish midrange-y one. Duress would've definitely won games that were lost here.

    • @Rococorico
      @Rococorico Год назад +2

      (also, I think you're underestimating that last UW Control deck, which probably runs 6-8 cheap spot removal spells in the sideboard for the Red matchups and that could be enough along with Dennick)

    • @EionBlue
      @EionBlue Год назад +1

      Probably not under-estimating that deck at all, first, duress would still do nothing, they had eight wraths that one game, turning it into six wouldn't change much.
      But considering half those wraths are stone dead against 90% of the meta, those probably WERE the side-board, no room for extra cheap removal.

    • @Rococorico
      @Rococorico Год назад +3

      @@EionBlue Duress post sideboard in that specific matchup would've been 1 for 1, whereas Gobakhan was not, because even with increased cost, the Farewells were cast.
      They've shown the wraths game 1, that's why I assume they have cheap and instant spot removal in their sideboard, which in the given matchup, they didn't even bother to bring in. It seems to me they've thought (unfortunately, correctly) that Wraths and Dennick were enough.

    This deck was really cool, but the other Incubate synergy I've wanted to see is Chrome Host Seedshark with Tezzeret, Betrayer of Flesh. It seems really strong since Tezzeret lets you flip your incubate tokens for free and you can tick down to make them have a base 4/4 instead of a 0/0.

    38:38 you had lethal by selecting first strike/deathtouch on Glissa.
    if glissa is killedpre-combat, atraxa blocks to gain 7, and takes 16. dead opponent
    if glissa gets to give firststrike/deathtouch, 7 first strike deathtouch means removal has to be spent on those and your 9/9s will get through

    • @LegendaryTy6
      @LegendaryTy6 Год назад

      The opponent had a go for the throat in his hand, he could kill the 4/4, let the 3/3 with first strike and deathtouch go through, and block a 9/9, putting him at 2, so he didn’t have lethal, the opponent could have brought back atraxa with the cruelty of gin in his hand, but Seth could have heavily pressured the opponent.

    I think this is actually a good recipe but I would change formats and change some support cards out. Explorer/Pioneer for people crazy enough to try Much Abrew About Nothing decks at locals. Possibly swap over some the larger things doing nothing for just pure "when it dies get a token" types. In particular I like Crawling Chorus in place of the battle that honestly while you have black why not use Dreams of Oil and Steel or one of the one mana hand rippers?
    Seems much more on curve and suited to this aggressive deck. But all in all it looks solid if it was trimmed more towards rewarding token generation by punishing removal . Ironically from what I've seen of this standard the meta is too aggro and random compared to Explorer. XD Feels weird to say but then again not so much these days. Standard has stayed pretty aggro and random for two years now.

That steixhaven card was a 3/1 evasive body, which is a heck of a clock by itself and likely to get in damage, versus gobokkan doesn't affect the board at all unless it can be attacked, so a couple of good blockers and it doesn't do anything.

    This might just be me, but with the timestamp divisions, it kinda spoils the outcome of the matches. Could you add some more time, with some text that reads "just skip ahead to minute X"? So for example with match 4, there was not a lot of time left for game 3, so that means you are about to lose or win in a very short time; a Smash Bros tournament did this, to not spoil how long the actual game lasted or who was going to win in the end. Just a suggestion, love the vids :D.

    Boycotting UW Control players is always morally correct

    ugh personally people that play control based decks just don't know how to have fun and play mtg.

      Man, there's interesting control decks out there. There's ones that have interesting interactions and card synergies.
      But when people build a deck that has 36 generic removal/counter spells, 4 copies of a win-con, and 20 lands, I begin to think they have brain damage. How can anyone think it's fun to wrath for 30 turns until their opponent scoops out of boredom?

      @Brandon Kiehl I mean, I like a little bit of removal more than the next player but I'm a player that likes the see my opponents deck go off, it's fun to see how many different combos people use.
      Lately, tho. it's been the same shit and I'm just sick of it..

    I'm confused by the "good game" etiquette that Seth gets annoyed by. What doesn't he like about an opponent saying good game? What's the proper etiquette? Not say anything at all?

      He's said other places that he thinks it's a bit rude to GG first when you win. Kind of comes across like you're rubbing your opponent's face in it.

    Any player who construct the deck of the 5th Match deserves a slow and excruciating death.

    Match 5 is a great show of why just playing all the wraths really isnt that good. You need to somehow win the game or stabelize the board with some kind of value engine. Just playing 12 wrath will often fall apart against most of these a little more resilient aggro decks because you just never win the game and at some poitnt your wrath onlx become overcosted one for one removal basically
