Powerstones are a funny thing in magic, because as they become worn, fractured or broken into shards, they actually become more efficient energy sources.
I think the thing I enjoy the most about you Seth, is that even if you are playing a card you don't think is good or you are playing against someone playing said card, you always find the moment positive and cheerfully instead of being a salty salt lord, and I respect that!
Today we learned that Karn is almost as good as Storm Crow, since you can sacrifice the powerstone tokens to Braids. Although Braids isn't quite Force of Will, it's still not bad.
Starting to wonder if Dragonspark Reactor is the card I’m missing from my own Braids Anvil deck - could always use more ways to pressure the opponent’s life total!
I think that's why this deck works so well, it's just incremental pressure all game forcing opponent to deal with something every turn or take the damage
Dragonspark Reactor is INSANE. It's the main wincon in my Legacy 12-Weld (Goblin Welder and all of its variants) deck. I realized how strong the card was after it won me a bunch of games in NEO prerelease (with double Fable, Anvil, and the guy that sacrifices an artifact to make a 3/1 haste construct).
I'd take two big lessons from this: First: after so many busted Karn versions, the one that isn't busted seems bad. Second: having cards that are great in the right shell but pointless otherwise, rather than cards that provide a low of value on any deck you slam them in, yields much more fun and variety to any format :)
The amount of fun you’re having with this deck is infectious! Karn might be worse than Voldaren Epicure in this deck, but gosh darn if it isn’t way more fun
I'm honestly not sure Voldaren Epicure is better. Karn gives you an artifact every turn, a potential alternative win con in the ultimate and a colourless Impulse for when you really need an answer. Epicure gives you one artifact, one body and one damage. For the grindy sacrifice strategy that this looks like, Karn's the perfect piece!
After I saw your games I built a mardu version, used Edgar, wedding announcement, rite of oblivion, as the white splash and then was more aggro with the artifacts, used the 3/3 blood token making artifact, so good. Went 5 and 1..
What I love about Seth, probably better known as SaffronOlive's cadence is that it reminds me much of a bumblebee's flight through the air. Darting about, up and down, going from flower to flower to collect that sweet nectar.
In game 1 of match 2, you didn't get punished for it but you should have sac'd the big reactor to kill the lifelinking vampire token before it dealt damage to you. You ended up having exactsies, but you ended up killing it on that end step anyway so there was no reason to let the opponent make it close.
He also just straight up missed lethal earlier around 15 mins. Oni cult a power stone to ping for 1 and tick up reactor to 7. Use reactor to kill samurai and swing with braids for 10 total damage. And then braids trigger and they lose 2 life and die
Good Job giving the new *Karn* a chance, Seth. I had decided after preview weekend, my first post-rotation deck was gonna be on *Karn* just to get you, but, after this, I'm still doing it. My build will just be....slightly different.
Well you COULD just play a {5} Jodah's Codex and draw an extra card each turn. Or you could play a vulnerable {1BB} creature and a vulnerable {4} planeswalker both with no way to protect themselves, and then you draw an extra card each turn unless your opponent has a treasure or blood token to sacrifice... Yup, this is my kind of jank.
Missed kill at 15:14. Saccing a power stone with the anvil puts them to 11 and reactor to 7. Reactor hits their blocker and puts them to 4. They’re then dead to braids attack for 3 + sac for 2.
I feel like this deck kinda shows why they had to make the Powerstone tokens so awful. Turns out that artifact tokens that do actually nothing are still inherently strong due to artifact synergies.
My 2 cents: 1 is that I love this deck. It's funky and uses jank, but can be surprisingly effective. The 2nd is that you know that first game of match 5 that your opponent had a blast. That was a wild game all around and slamming all those legends and being thwarted over and over again, had to be a feel good win.
before rotation I built a budget Red/Black anvil deck that I loved. So much play to it. I think this is it's spiritual successor. Dragonspark Reactor is soooo good. Braids definitely is good in it.
I’ve been combining Braids with Lagomos, Hand of Hatred and Sheoldred the Apocalypse for a nice unconventional life gain and infinite permanent sac. If I get lucky and get to throw in a Liesa, Forgotten Archangel and Ratadrabik of Utborg to infinitely sacrifice Braids and Sheoldred and create tokens with the same abilities. It’s just a slow deck and I need to figure out how to make it better cause once that combo is out there, there isn’t a lot opponent can usually do 😅
I opened Braids and Karn in my Pre-release. Wonderful combo! And the whole "new Karn is trash" meme played to my advantage, because people underestimated Karn. Ulted him twice and machine gunned my opponents, haha! Got second place with them in an Abzan elf ball deck.
I’ve been running new karn, dragonspark, oni cult, sanguine statuette and just a bunch of blood token generators to fuel karn. It’s good midrange paired with falconrath forebear etc it’s a legitimately fun deck
Been enjoying the absolute hell out of all the videos because of DMU. Standard, explorer, hopefully we'll see if any lords can make a difference in Legacy or Modern
When you have an untapped oni-cult anvil with a construct out on your oppenents turn, you can sack a construct to its tap ability to ping your opponent for 1 and make another one.
So with two other specific lands on the battlefield, Urza’s Mine makes one extra colorless mana? Sure it’s not an identical scenario, but by your logic, decks shouldn’t be built with synergy, they should just be powerful cards that don’t affect each other or combos that win instantly. No need for ramp or card draw, they’re only kinda good.
Well he is a source of artifact generation which channel the whole deck idea to sack them. Id say rather that this karn wasnt born in the right standard format to be good? He would've loved a time sieve.
I'd rather them make unique PWs that have synergies vs the formulaic of uptick for card draw, downtick for removal/protection, and an ult that wins the game
@@plasmawisp18 right? everyone just expects a 4 mana planeswalker to 3 for 1 their opponent, cook them dinner and tie their shoes these days. Kinda glad the artifact reliant planeswalker stayed on brand and tried to find a niche rather than becoming a generic all include like the karn from the last dominaria set.
Karn and Braids. Name a more _compleate_ duo. Is this a case of throttling planeswalker power creep? By rights of previous sets karn SHOULD have had +1 token tap for all colors OR +0 Tap mana draw effect. OR +0 tap any number of powerstone shards reveal twice that many cards from library put one in hand OR -1 the same as above but put a card in hand for EACH powerstone shard Honestly I think they have been gunshy since oko. Which is reasonable but god damn guys why does PlayDesign even exist?? Still this deck is sweet I hope karn find his way to glory
Apparently there's some sort of sync issue with the first match. Don't worry, it gets better! Sorry for the hassle.
I got *super* thrown off and got worried, immediately went to the comments, thank you for letting me know xD
I call this deck "karn(corn) rows" cause it's karn with braids
i thought i was too stoned.............
I also went immediately to the comments for this
It makes it look like Seth is commentating on a live game he's watching instead of playing
Powerstones are a funny thing in magic, because as they become worn, fractured or broken into shards, they actually become more efficient energy sources.
the energy output must be determined by surface area rather than mass then
I think the thing I enjoy the most about you Seth, is that even if you are playing a card you don't think is good or you are playing against someone playing said card, you always find the moment positive and cheerfully instead of being a salty salt lord, and I respect that!

You beat me to the storm crow comp 😢
I love that this community can immediately all remember a meme from ten plus years ago hahah
"We got more blood than we're ever gonna need." - Seth
*Dracula has entered the chat.*
This made me choke on my drink hahah 😂
Your commentary is out of sync with your visual in the first match (haven't made it past that match yet)
Just got there was thinking the same
It's all throughout 😓
Yeah, this apparently happened with the stream replay from last week according to a viewer
I thought I was having a stroke! Thank god I’m not.
Match two looks good
Braids and Karn are definitely a cool synergy, but what this has really convinced me of is that Dragonspark Reactor is a hugely undervalued card
Yeah I didn’t even know it was release du til I was building an artifact deck a month back, its sooooo good
Starting to wonder if Dragonspark Reactor is the card I’m missing from my own Braids Anvil deck - could always use more ways to pressure the opponent’s life total!
It would be pretty good as a 1 or 2 of.
Maybe as a one of, still a little clunky
I think that's why this deck works so well, it's just incremental pressure all game forcing opponent to deal with something every turn or take the damage
Dragonspark Reactor is INSANE. It's the main wincon in my Legacy 12-Weld (Goblin Welder and all of its variants) deck. I realized how strong the card was after it won me a bunch of games in NEO prerelease (with double Fable, Anvil, and the guy that sacrifices an artifact to make a 3/1 haste construct).
I’m running it as a 2 of in my deck and it’s a control killer
Seth’s ingenuity knows no bounds, I would have never thought to combine these
I'd take two big lessons from this:
First: after so many busted Karn versions, the one that isn't busted seems bad.

I think you caught a few people not reading and not realizing that declining the Braids sac was an option.
"Braids and Karn, together at last" has the same energy as "Nuts and gum, together at last"
After I saw your games I built a mardu version, used Edgar, wedding announcement, rite of oblivion, as the white splash and then was more aggro with the artifacts, used the 3/3 blood token making artifact, so good. Went 5 and 1..
Name the card that’s the 3/3 blood token maker please and thank you
Fascinating brew, cool synergies, and you rose to the challenge of making new Karn good! 10/10 Seth, great fun to watch!
😂 my fav thing about Seth is how confidently he pronounces words however he feels like
"Ejanno"
Lol, I have been toying with this idea for days! I am so happy to see a (way better) version of it!
Unlikely friends, but good ones nonetheless! Amazing how sometimes slamming two build-around cards together is so effective.
What I love about Seth, probably better known as SaffronOlive's cadence is that it reminds me much of a bumblebee's flight through the air. Darting about, up and down, going from flower to flower to collect that sweet nectar.
I'm glad you resisted the urge to make a deck where you just discard karn to fable and enemy lili for value.
In game 1 of match 2, you didn't get punished for it but you should have sac'd the big reactor to kill the lifelinking vampire token before it dealt damage to you. I love this combo. Me and my friend happened to both pull showcase Karns, and I'm determined to make Karn useful
Reactor win.
Seth: "That's Karn! Karn is good!"
Haven't finished the vid yet, but how many times did a Powerstone tick up Reactor?
Good Job giving the new *Karn* a chance, Seth.
I had decided after preview weekend, my first post-rotation deck was gonna be on *Karn* just to get you, but, after this, I'm still doing it.

I saw the title and I already could see the vision can't wait to watch this video see if it works
I feel like ts been a long time since I've seen this much Seth joy. Thank you for that, Braids.
You spending wildcards on Karn for the content fills me with strong emotions. Mixed, but strong.
If the powerstones didn't come in tapped, Karn would be slightly more playable
Well you COULD just play a {5} Jodah's Codex and draw an extra card each turn. Or you could play a vulnerable {1BB} creature and a vulnerable {4} planeswalker both with no way to protect themselves, and then you draw an extra card each turn unless your opponent has a treasure or blood token to sacrifice... Yup, this is my kind of jank.
I love the deck idea. I was thinking karn need a artifact deck or some other weird way to use powers tones. Very creative use of them
The biggest reason for clicking on these videos are the thumbnails, then the awesome host
59:55 "We've got more blood than we're ever gonna need." -Seth pbka 2022
Seth, premiere Karn, Living Legacy hater, playing Karn? This is legendary.
Seth! You could have played that Bootleggers at 37:52 to get like 4 triggers on each reactor and basically kill them through anything next turn!
Missed kill at 15:14. Saccing a power stone with the anvil puts them to 11 and reactor to 7. Reactor hits their blocker and puts them to 4. They’re then dead to braids attack for 3 + sac for 2.
I was your round 1 opponent. I didn't realise it was you until you cast Bootlegger's Stash lol.
not sure about the green splash but this was a really sweet brew, well done seth!
I feel like this deck kinda shows why they had to make the Powerstone tokens so awful. Turns out that artifact tokens that do actually nothing are still inherently strong due to artifact synergies.
These were amazing matches. I watched this the third time now :D
Now this is the crossover we needed for true greatness
The evolution of Saffron Olive's youtube voice leads me to believe that, one day, we will not be able to understand him
Finally, Karn Against the odd video!
Not all heroes wear capes I was torn with the vote between Karn and braids. But Seth did both.
My 2 cents: 1 is that I love this deck. It's funky and uses jank, but can be surprisingly effective.

Missed opportunity for a Barn joke tbh

Seth’s pure joy winning with Karn after shitting on it brought me so much happiness
What a LEGENDARY final game.
This... this puts a smile on my face
If you would avoid the green, what other cards would you recommend adding instead?
Not to be picky but I noticed a delay with the 2nd gmae in match 1 with the audio and the gameplay. Not a big thing but something I noticed.
At around 9:00 the sound is late by a few seconds - commentating on past actions
This deck is oddly super synergistic. I like it.
Killer deck idea!
very sad about the audio desync... it was such an exciting combo too!
So we can all finally agree that Karn should stand by Oko as one of the most poweful planeswalkers of all time.
I need a Braids & Karn roommate buddy comedy now
Braids: 😃
Karn: 😐
When you have an untapped oni-cult anvil with a construct out on your oppenents turn, you can sack a construct to its tap ability to ping your opponent for 1 and make another one.
Saying this because at 26:30 you didnt
@@lkwamazing9 Half a year late, but Oni-Cult Anvil only can make a construct on *your* turn, not your opponent's turn.
So with a Braids on the battlefield, Karn becomes a sorta decent planeswalker? Yea, Karn is pretty bad.
Almost as good as Storm Crow
So with two other specific lands on the battlefield, Urza’s Mine makes one extra colorless mana?

Pretty sweet.
I’ll test drive
Love to see dragonspark reactor pop off
This would be fun in historic brawl if there is a good commander in area to choose. Seems artifact focused.
I appreciate the work you do making these junky decks. Good job.
For a brief moment I read the title as, "Can Braids break Karn in legacy" x'D
Nice that Karn could find a home in Standard.
I love dragonspark reactor. I've got it in my prosper deck
I am going to try an Orzhov Karn+Braids. The only thing I'm missing is the Karn
Why is the cam off for in game 2?
Karn might be my favorite card from Dominaria. It's no bomb nor top tier card from the set but has potential to be good with the right brew.
How do you get the Tokyo lands? I ordered the secret lair, but it didn't come with an arena code (according to my order).
It's an offer prior the DMU release...
"you got your Shitty Karn in my braids!"
'You got your braids in my Shitty Karn!'
Need that one of fun of sheoldred in the deck
And you said Karn was bad Seth!
"Karn is good if you treat his first ability like it makes blank tokens" isn't a ringing endorsement of Karn, but it's a good point
It's hilarious that in the one deck Karn is playable in, his tokens are strictly worse Darksteel Relics.
This is the new cat oven combo. I hate it, thanks!
Weird ship but I respect it
I think Karn might turn out pretty good since it's a +1 ability to get an artifact.
D3ck has so much synergy!
Its kind of a shame how the audio and video are misaligned since this one looked sweet
It seems like it's just an issue with the first match. Sorry about that!
petition to name this deck Oni-Cult Karnival
Never thought I'd Ship Karn+Braids lmao
I'm confused, jund burn?
We’re doing well here, it was just a Rakdos hand😂
Who know makeing a deck around a card would make that card good.
The fabled time has come. Seth is testing potentially one of the worst planewalkers ever printed in a standard set. Can't wait.
I think karn is super underated. To me i think it’s secretly busted

Finally put an end to all this Karn slander...
To me this deck seems super good but karn could probably be replaced with something else that makes treasures or something instead every turn
Do you think Karn would be OP if it was 3 mana and started with 1 less loyalty?
The ultimate game 1 wow
Anvil is a good deck and Braids is a good addition to it, but Karn is taking Ob's spot as Planeswalker, which makes him a lot less impressive.
It's a deck that revolves around destroying/sacrificing artifacts, and it runs Braids. It likes to have a Braids out. A Braids. Abrade? Eh? Ehhhh? :p
Opened an alt art karn while watching
Braids is a solid card in standard def played a bit waaaaay more then karn
