Štramberk to Studénka - a short ride on a Czech local train

- I'd been to visit the beautiful town of Štramberk in the Moravian-Silesian region of Czechia, and this trip covers the short hop from Štramberk back to Studénka riding a refurbished trailer, being pulled along by a recently refurbished Class 811 diesel railcar.
These railcars have just four wheels, rather than bogies. In the UK, our similar vehicles, the Pacers, were known for bouncy ride quality and a generally unsatisfactory experience. would it be the same in the Czech Republic?
Departure: Štramberk, Czech Republic
Destination: Studénka, Czech Republic
Distance: 13 miles / 21 km
Cost: 88CZK / £3.02 / €3.57 adult return
Date of Travel: June 2022
Operator: České dráhy. (ČD)
Motive power: Class 811 diesel railcar, pulling a refurbished Class 010 trailer. Refurbished 2020 (ČD) - originally built as Class 810 by Vagónka Studénka (1973-1982)
Nice and interesting video. I live in Ostrava and I'm glad that there are people that take the extra effort to visit more of the Czech Republic than just Prague or Český Krumlov and are willing to share their experience.
I'm amazed how few people from the UK venture out of Prague. My last trip, I slept in Karlovy Vary, Olomouc, Ostrava and Hradec Kralové. And as you seen, I also visited other places along the way like Štramberk. I will return soon!
Thank you for watching and commenting. I really appreciate the kind words.
Nice video! I have to mention that also the town of Příbor is beautiful. It is also a birthplace of Sigmund Freud!
Thank you for the kind comment. My apologies for not visiting Příbor too. Although that would mean me having to say "ř" more, and I really struggle with saying ř in Czech!
@@JohnnyHooverTravels even some Czechs struggle with it. :)
Btw what brings you to our neck of woods anyway? :)
For nice scenic train rides in CZ, I suggest Šumperk-Jesenik or Praha-Cercany via Davle, nicknamed "Sázava Pacific Railroad", a really gorgeous line along the rivers Vltava and Sázava :)
But there are so many more, of course...
@@carthtc3429 I've been coming to Cz since 2013 to attend Rock for People festival at Hradec Kralové and have since discovered more of the country. My train journeys this year was the days leading up to RfP.
Thank you for those tips of journeys to take. I shall add them to my list of trips I wish to take.
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment on my videos. I really appreciate your interest. 👍
Nice little video Johnny - enjoyed that. Lots of quirky stuff in it too 👍
Haha! Thank you!
If you like quirky have a look at the one from Tremešna to Osoblaha.
Another interesting experience!
I really like to travel and traveling by train gives me the most joy. Unfortunately, I don't know how to travel cheaply around the UK so for now I travel by coaches through Caledonian Travel.
Greating from Hull x
I think the trick with UK trains is to book early. The cheap tickets generally go on sale 12 weeks before departure date so that's when you will find the good deals. Sometimes you have to keep checking back every day until the cheap tickets are released.
The TrainLine app is a good starting point. 👍
It's nice to see when someone makes a video about Czech trains in English!
It was a pleasure. It's also nice when someone watches it! So thank you 👍
Good video. makes me want to go there. Pacer seats more comfortable than those in class 800s?
Why do we do so badly procuring new trains? it's crazy!
Can’t go there with the seats… it hits a raw nerve (at the base of my back and also the top of my legs)…
But CZ… go! The people are nice and the trains are great. And if they’re not great, they still have a strange charm and take you to cool places
the reason why the tickets are so cheap, is because train travel is sorta the primary method of travel, since czechia has one of the densest railway networks, and it would only make sense for it to be cheap. fun fact: i travel by trains for some time now, and not in my 14 years of life have i rode this train lol
Haha. That is one I have done that you haven't!
I love Cz because of the depth of service. I will definitely be back again and again.
Thank you for watching 👍
@@JohnnyHooverTravels tho the only Reason i havent rode it, Is because i simply didnt travel on a track line operated by 810s (hopefully that sentence made sense)
Btw did you catch RegioFox yet?
@@PexTrains no. I haven't been on a Fox yet, only a Shark. I must return and do that!

Thank you for adding that extra information. It is indeed a great place to have a holiday!
Thanks for watching 👍
It was ex. 010 car, not 811. 811 is a power car.
You are right. It was the trailer, being drawn by the 811 at the front.
I cannot edit the video now it's uploaded , but I will change the description on RUclips to be clearer.
Thank you for pointing this out. 👍
...and thank you watching and I hope my inaccuracy did not completely spoil the experience 🤞
I have now changed the text and will alter the thumbnail later today. Thanks again for pointing this out.
