So sad that Book Depository has closed. I could always guarantee that this ‘hard to find’ books were always there for me. I just spent $147 on one book - a biography about a Hungarian music education pedagogue. Well worth it.
I bought a book from them last year after I saw Emma show one in her video...they were a good place to buy from. So sad that they're closing. I especially liked their bookmarks 😞
The closest alternative I can find is Blackwell's, which has been good so far for obscure books! Plus international shipping is included. I don't know if it has quite the range that BD did but it's pretty good
The thing I miss most about teaching college level courses is the free books you could get if you were "considering" using it for a class. Good to see you back, Emma, have a wonderful week!
One of the best sci romance I’ve read is one that literally reads like a poem. It’s so beautiful and jarring and a wonderful mixture of nature and space. It’s how to lose the time war and I’d take a bullet for it. It swings between a narrative and a letter exchange format it’s super good.
Omg, the Rainbow Fairy book series was my favorite as a child. I definitely can trace my love for reading back to them. I’ve never heard anyone else talk those books, you mentioning them brought the biggest smile to my face. ❤
Just waiting for that coffee to drop 😅 Oh man what a haul! Bookstores closing is so depressing! But I’m glad you got to grab so much! I’m taking notes for this video 😊❤
5:18 Kim’s books are so good and he is a charming person when I enjoyed watching him on the Korean talking show. He’s so talented and dedicated to expressing into words. I love his mind so much!!! Hope you enjoy it!!
Hey Emma, I was the one that recommended A Single Thread of Moonlight to you🙈 I’m so happy that you added it to your tbr, it’s one of my favorite ya novels of all time. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Love from Istanbul🥰✌🏻
I got a shiver when you mentioned the "-ology" books. Dragonology was my entire life. We had Pirateology too and that book inspired my siblings and I to turn our back deck into a pirate ship and those were some of the most fun times
For sci-fi romance I would definitely recommend Shards of Honor (the first in the Vorkosigan series) by Lois McMaster Bujold! It first came out in the 80s but it totally deserves a resurgence.
I ADORE Eva Ibbotson! I have very vivid memories of reading her books when I was in high school, I found them so immersive and lovely. The Secret Countess was my favourite and I still reread it every few years!
Hi, Emma! I think we're in the same year in college. This has been the most gruelling semester ever 😩. You're right that drowning in wholesome books really work instead of absorbing the more difficult ones. I'm in the middle of reading Comet in Moominland, and The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy is in my tbr. Happy reading! Goodluck in uni!
YES IM SO EXCITED TO WATCH AN HOUR-LONG ACOTAR READING VLOG 🤩🤩 Never read them bc they sound like books I would hate so I'd love to watch you do it for me haha
omg I actually didn't know frost heart was popular and I've bought it recently because of its good reviews on goodreads and I immediately thought of you and how it feels like such an Emma book
Wowsers!! 18 books in the one haul! Seriously impressed! Like you, I rarely buy new or new release books, I much prefer either Thrift stores and Op-shops. I have to say... You are just too cute! Your enthusiasm is infectious and I never noticed how adorable it is that you smell each book! Love it!
This book haul is almost a fraction of the size of the one Emma will end up buried under when she sets up a new PO box and everyone starts sending her things again lol Speaking of historical fantasy, read Strange & Norrell soonish please 🙏 and also YES Dragonology/etc. was my entire childhood and I very much want to write a book like that one day
Looking at the stupid-ass ACOTAR map I would also like to point out that "Hybern" sounds suspiciously like "Hibernia" which is the Latin name for Ireland - and it also looks rather familiar on the map... (I have not read the book but clearly that is just Ireland)
hi. excuse me!!!I have a question, would you like to share any English books? I am an English major, but ,you know , POOR English. I do wanna improve my reading skills and oral English!!! Thank you !!!
@@kikicc2902 Hi Kiki! Well, i'm from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I can read and write in English, but all my books are in Portuguese, so i think i can't help you on this matter.
Just wanna drop this video idea here: I watched The Phantom of the Opera a few days ago and since then I've been obsessed, unfortunately I can't read the book yet (but I will!). Then I remember that is one of your favorites and came craving for a whole video about it, but didn't cover the entire book, and the a thought that would be amazing a long (yes) vlog rereading it and maybe one and other retelling. Like an overdose of Phantom of the Opera 🤲🏻 Love your videos ❤
yes yes yes! I would love this too. I adore anything Phantom, and recently read the book and thoroughly enjoyed it. Would definitely love another video on it!
Next time you get a hardback, can you show us what's underneath the dust jacket? Sometimes there are beautiful surprises hiding underneath. I was curious to see what was under the jacket of Emily Wildes Encyclopedia of Faeries.
Oh my Goddess! If you love retelling you should absolutely read Splintered by H. G. Howard. It's a retell of Alice in Wonderland and it's freaking awesome! I haven't read the entire trilogy but I can vow for the first one
Just read Frostheart a couple months ago and really enjoyed it! The illustrations are lovely, and the whole thing has strong How to Train Your Dragon vibes!
All most all of these sound amazing. I have been watching so many book videos and only a couple have really caught my eye good but almost all of these sound perfect. LOVE. ❤❤❤😊 Thank you.
Highly recommend World of Books for ordering cheaper, secondhand and new books. I've been buying from them for years, and they've been great. They're also more eco-friendly as a company (as far as I've been able to tell) and have a very small carbon offset charge to orders. Just a thought for anyone mourning Book Depository's death lol.
Emma, I wanna recommend the manga - Yona of the Dawn! Its fantasy, its got adventure, romance, palace intrigue, a morally grey character, and Yona undergoes some of the best character development I've ever seen! I went into it thinking it'd be a regular shoujo manga (those are super fun too! ) but was pleasantly surprised by the depth and just overall fun vibes? Highly recommend!
i also used to buy from bookdepository but since it closed, i moved to buying from kennys bookshop & art gallery (from ireland) and they're cheaper, both used or new and they ship for 1 euro each book. totally recommend it.
I'm so so excited for you to read acotar!! they're really good books, the first book is alright but trust me they get better. I hope you'll enjoy and also find comfort in the beautiful fantasty world that Sarah J Maas created :) much love xxx
You'll probably love the Innkeeper Chronicles by Ilona Andrews. It's a romance series, sort of urban fantasy/sci fy. The main character is an innkeeper that has what it looks like a B&B but it's an inn for intergalastical species and she can design each room based on her guests' needs and culture. I actually thought of recommending it to you when you talked about hotels, but now that you mentioned sci-fy romance I was like!!!
Hi Emma, If you’re getting into manga I’d recommend “Snow white with the red hair” what initially got me interested is that the female protagonist is a herbalist! You always have the most lovely videos btw
I recommend Some Desperate Glory, by Emily Tesh! Queer romance in space, but also so much more!! I just finished it and it was one of my favourite reads of the year. I’m really sure you’ll love it as well!
Hi Emma, i was wondering could you make "wholesome" tag on goodreads? I am in NEED of some books and it would be amazing to have a list from person i trust with book reccs
This maybe a highly unpopular opinion but I’m so exhausted with romance taking over YA and other Fantasy/ Science Fiction. I really just want strong world building, great characters and lots of magic and action.
If you ever wanna read a deep philosophical fantasy i would really recommend "til we have faces" by cs lewis. it's a retelling of the myth of eros and psyche but from the perspective of psyche's sister. a great read
Here’s a wintery rec from one fan of snow to another: ‘Robbergirl’ by ST Gibson It’s a sapphic retelling of the Snow Queen that takes place in Sweden. A very quick read by one of my favourite authors of all time ❄️
I really like the Consortium Rebellion Trilogy by Jessie Mihalik for Science Fiction Romance. The first and third one are a bit insta-lovey but I still really enjoyed them :)
I really enjoyed your video recreating recipes from "Kitchen Princess"--maybe you could do another one for Omnibus 2? Btw, I'm fairly sure there's a Korean movie or drama based on "I Have the Right to Destroy Myself".🧡
Emma your reaction to the Magnolia Parks cover was very similar to my own reaction. Please look up the second book in that series it has an INSANE cover that makes me thing whoever was designing it threw everything they could think of onto it.
I didn't get bookmarks in my panic last purchase Depository order and it made me beyond sad, literally no other site had everythinggg and free shipping😭
For sci-fi romance, I'd REALLY recommend This Is How You Lose The Time War.This book has been getting a lot of popularity due to Twitter and its really good. Another would be Winter's Orbit, which is a space opera. Both of these books are also queer! So, happy reading! :D
Also! Wings and Ruin was so so so good. I literally finished ACOWAR last week. I am meant to be moving onto Frost and Starlight. But my heart needs to recover so I've read The Fine Print and started Terms and Conditions today.
Lol the anxiety the coffee gave me 😂😂 I'm so excited to see what you think of Court of Thorns etc series. Not something I'd probably ever read but of course I see it everywhere and I've watched other reviews and...ohmigosh the ridiculousness. I'm anticipating a hilarious video to come.

undertaking of hart and mercy is one of the best books ive read this year, and half a soul is pretty good - its actually a trilogy if youre interested. emily wilde is on my list as well. was not a fan of once upon a broken heart
So I tried reading The Winter King. I'm not great with explicit romance but I DO love fantasy so I gave it a go. There's one very specific anatomical thing that made me nope right out of there 😅 So curious to hear what you think when you get to it!

Emma smelling and describing books scents like they’re wine might be a new favourite thing 😂 wonderful video, they always put me in a good mood! ❤
The title of my first novel will be the Winterly Winterness of Wintersome Winter.
The easiest way to get free publicity from Emma lol
it's already in my wishlist🤝
sold
Good title. My own novel has this title Summerly Winter and Fall Springer, heroes for all seasons. This is mimetic realist fiction.
That's so cool mine's called Summerly Summerness of Summersome Summer
So sad that Book Depository has closed. I could always guarantee that this ‘hard to find’ books were always there for me. I just spent $147 on one book - a biography about a Hungarian music education pedagogue. Well worth it.
Yes, it’s where I was always able to find translated works that I wanted to read!

Do you mean Kodály?
People same!! For the more picky choice bookworm- this place was my go to for specific book publications
The thing I miss most about teaching college level courses is the free books you could get if you were "considering" using it for a class. Good to see you back, Emma, have a wonderful week!

I was obsessed! Only realised recently how many series they made
Same! I literally decided my fave flowers were daisies as a kid bc the fairy with my name was a Daisy fairy 🧚 😂

I love how often you're posting recently, your videos always cheer me up ❤
after a long study session a book haul from you was just what i needed💙💙 hugs to you and calcifer
I miss the Book Depository catalogue - both the range and also the layout of their website - it was a great resource as well as a book shop.
Hey Emma, I was the one that recommended A Single Thread of Moonlight to you🙈 I’m so happy that you added it to your tbr, it’s one of my favorite ya novels of all time. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Love from Istanbul🥰✌🏻
Ah amazing, thank you lovely!! 💙💙
Yay shout out to Gavin! I love him! He is a light
I’m currently reading Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries and really enjoying it.
ohmygosh this gave me so much nostalgia for some reason?? I read wildspark a few years ago and it was such a favorite for me!! Hope you enjoy it
Awe so glad, I’m sure I’ll love it:’)
I got a shiver when you mentioned the "-ology" books. Dragonology was my entire life. We had Pirateology too and that book inspired my siblings and I to turn our back deck into a pirate ship and those were some of the most fun times
the most thing i love about you the positive energy that I get from you videos
Ahhh The sweet sound of a package being opened when you know there is a book inside. 🥰
omg i loved the rainbow magic books growing up! I would always borrow them from the library!
For me it was the "You have bewitched me, body and soul" like you have all my heart emmie
For sci-fi romance I would definitely recommend Shards of Honor (the first in the Vorkosigan series) by Lois McMaster Bujold! It first came out in the 80s but it totally deserves a resurgence.

oh no this has put me in such a huge fantasy romance reading mood (i probably definitely have to get emily wilde's encyclopaedia of faeries)🧚♀
Emma darling, thanks for this huge and amazing book haul! It made my Sunday happier! ❤
