just think, every book you keep that you don’t actually like, you’re keeping a person discovering it who might adore it. that’s my logic at least. i hate the idea of a book collecting dust on my shelf when it could be in someone’s home being read and loved instead ☺️

The reasons why that argument doesn't work in my head is because when I grow old I wanna have my own house and have a huge library and invite over lots of people who can read books from my bookshelves. But that's really unrealistic. So you have won the argument

Hi Emma, Really love a good unhaul vids, they’re my favorites. You did a great job!
But I wanna share my tips for decluttering :
    1. If you’re hesitating or if it’s a maybe, that technically means it’s a no. If you really loved it, you’ll never hesitate.
    2. And if u still end up storing some, go back to them a few weeks after and you might just end up decluttering them anyway .
    3. Always do a 2nd or 3rd sweep on the books that you kept, you’ll always find more to declutter.

The Raven Cycle is my favorite series of all time and I actually think that there is a good chance that you would really like it! I adore Maggie Steifvater's writing so much and think it is so unique from a lot of young adult fantasy style. The books are so rich and have a lot of depth and I return to them over and over and I love them more each time! I appreciate the writing style and the characters and the story more and more the older I get.

it's interesting that we have become so accustomed to what people might think of our bookshelves or needing things "for other people" that we've adopted that kind of thinking for books as well. When we go to the store and buy books for ourselves we don't usually have other people in mind so why would we hang on to a book for someone else? I think it's something that most people are unlearning in so many facets of their life, but I'm glad you brought it up!

I read 20 books or less per year so it has to be AMAZING for me to re-read a book. So now, everytime I finish a book, I decide if I keep it or not. Will I read it again or not? I also do not enjoy the Throne of Glass Series, so I'm behind you on unhauling those, ha ha! Also, I don't know if it could be a helpful mindset shift, but it's helpful for me when I'm unhauling books to remember that any book that's a generic edition is something that I can just buy again later. If it's a hard to find edition or a pretty one, and I'm on the fence about it, I keep it. But if it's just a generic edition or something easy to find again, I just get rid of it and put it on an Amazon or Goodreads list to remember for later if I want to buy it again. Also, for any that you're not sure of, you can also purge them but then check them out from the library when you get in the mood for that book later.

The way I view getting rid of gifts is this: A gift was meant to give you happiness. If you can’t keep it for whatever reason and that brings you stress that’s the opposite the intent of the gift. So IMO the giver likely would rather you NOT stress and just get rid of it if that’s what you need to do.

I'd trade you your "unhaul" for what happened to me.
I had so many books, I had to rent a 10'x10' storage unit. It was stuffed front to back, side to side, and floor to ceiling with books. There wasn't even room for aisles between the bookcases. I'm talking about literally thousands of books.
Devastatingly (and this word isn't strong enough to convey the hurt and loss of what happened), someone(s) broke into my storage unit and stole everything in it, completely cleaned it out.
    ALL GONE!!!
I had a few games in there, too, like chess. The only thing left behind was a single chess piece on the floor (a bishop). The books (and bookcases, too) just gone, cleared out in a single day. And the manager and employees supposedly didn't see a thing.
So at least you know where you books are, that they went to good homes.

Paris Wife - Yes I read it and liked it. I read it with A Moveable Feast and liked getting the dual perspective of the memoir which is true but can be unreliable and the historical fiction which is fiction but based on research. Would be a great summer read actually. edited to add: I've been there a few times getting rid of books and what I would tell myself 1) I can always find them again and 2) other people will enjoy them. Can guarantee that someone finding a second hand copy of The Maid so soon after release date will be over the moon.

    2. Books I'll read again
    3. A few family books that belonged to my grandma
    4. A very few other sentimental books

I can't even give you any things to compare it to because I genuinely know nothing like it sooooo yeah
Also I've said this before but that Greek language textbook gives me war flashbacks >.< I'm so bad at learning new languages so I took the first semester of Greek like, three times and failed each time, but I still have the textbook bc I do still really want to learn lol

Will you make a video going around and donating these to little free library boxes?
As hard as it is to unhaul, we need to remember that a lot of books can be purchased again if we come to a point in our lives where we do want to visit them. I like to keep books that have a personal meaning and editions that may not be so easily available. Those that have an unspoken story with the object itself.
Most books can be easily obtained again if just purchased to read them, and if we aren't getting to them in a reasonable amount of time.. well.. we can't read ALL the books and they are probably not as high on the TBR appeal as other books if they've been hanging out on the shelf for a long time.

Hey Emmie, if you haven't already, you should try watching the Madoka Magica movies! It's been months and I haven't stopped thinking about it to this day (so much about hope and altruism). There are so many hidden symbols, it's really thought-provoking and on a different scale, it's really really pretty to look at! (the moody teens in the movies are pretty realistic too XD)
Also, if you're looking for a light-hearted manga centred around a bunch of preteens that living one floor of a large manor (victorian-ish vibes), you should check out Shadows House! It has the perfect mix of mystery and fluff that I think could be something you'd enjoy! (i know you just did an enormous unhaul but still!)
