@@junserafin5241 not in Australia, in the US, but what I’ve figured is this; it wouldn’t make money. In my city, this same problem is occurring, everyone is being priced out. So… they’re building on a plot of vast desert land… a luxury resort style neighborhood, with a country club style Rec center, and a sports/concert venue and luxury shopping center adjacent, because it will attract the Uber rich and wealthy, people they’ll make money off to go there. The fact of the matter is simple: people don’t want to build housing for people who desperately need housing because it won’t make as much money. It also, in turn, by having richer wealthier people there, and thus more money and thus ‘nicer seeming’ stuff versus just a general track home neighborhood, it all makes it seem more appealing to move to, to more wealthy folks and thus more money. Ultimately, a lot of it comes down to money and building an environment that seems more affluent to attract more money, as those in poverty aren’t seen as… well, appealing to people with money looking to move. So they price them out to get rid of em.

Argentine citizen here, it's getting harder pretty much every single week. Everything, from food to clothing to rent to water supply, every single service and basic products are seeing an increase in prize pretty much 2 to 4 times a month. We are getting drowned and suffocated with uncertainty, and every citizen (aside from the rich) struggles to reach end of the month without having any kind of debt. Middle class is the new low class, and low class has pretty much developed into extreme poverty. The situation is really, REALLY hard. Imagine one week you're paying 3 dollars for a roll of toilette paper and next week you suddenly have to pay double the prize for the exact same brand/product.

It's concentrated mostly in the capitol of Buenos Aires, whereas in other provinces you have localized "barrios" or even entire cities that can be dangerous. @@abelsietecuatro9249 In the late 19th-early 20 Centuries, more than 6 million Europeans emigrated to Argentina. That's the largest number of immigrants in the world after those that went to America. Among those immigrants was a young Aristotle Onassis who made his first millions in Argentina at the age of 25. I don't agree that poverty should be a reality in Argentina. It is one of the largest agricultural exporters in the world. it has a highly literate population, a highly-developed industrial sector, first-world infrastructure. and for most of the 20th Century, it was the only Latin American nation along with neighboring Uruguay that was predominantly middle-class. I am not saying that everyone should be rich; there are poor people even in the richest nations in the world. The problem with Argentina is that it has never succeeded in managing its economy efficiently. It has tried to pay for its generous social welfare programs by simply printing more money which causes inflation. It did not learn the valuable lesson that other developed countries did and that is to link pay raises to productivity and not inflation. These are the policies that have destroyed what should be one of the richest countries on earth.

Canada's major cities (primarily Toronto and Vancouver) have become prohibitively expensive, and housing has gotten out of reach of many. Sometimes all it takes is losing your job, and not having any sort of support system in place before you're living out of your car, and then eventually out on the streets.
So many of Canada's problems are due to absolutely terrible city planning (restrictive zoning laws that make it very difficult to build large amounts of additional housing) and there's almost no political will to change it. There's too much money tied into real estate investment, and no politician wants to upset the tens of thousands of Canadians that have all of their money tied to what's essentially a real estate ponzi scheme.

So sad. This is why, when I retire at the end of this year, I’ll use my severance package to buy a small farm, build a modest bungalow with solar power, and go into subsistence farming. That way, if my country ever goes the hyperinflationary way of Argentina, Lebanon, Venezuela, etc., at least I’ll have a place to stay and food to eat.

I just returned from Argentina last week and although I am aware of economic issues and inflation, as an American, I felt that issues with homelessness are much less evident than in California. The cities are very clean and if there are homeless, they don't seem to bother anyone. Due to this, I don't think many foreigners truly underrated the severity of the situation.

Many comments that people don't deserve to be treated like this, not only Argentina, which I totally agree with.
But why are so many voting for politicians which often makes it worse?
The current crisis in Argentina is homemade because their politicians think they are able to build their own economic system based on self-sustain, especially independent from the USA and the US dollar. Now you see the result of this failed policy. In a global world, you can only fail when you think, you are better on your own. As a citizen of the EU, maybe not everything is great, but compared to other regions much better. Once Argentina had been on the same level as the average EU member, but denying cooperation with their neighbors and the world led to this result. Being proud of your nation is great, but if this comes with these costs, so you should think twice.
