- 37.9 million Americans are currently living in poverty, accounting for 11.6% of the total population. That’s despite the fact that America ranks first as the richest nation in the world in terms of GDP. Poverty in the U.S. is not only a humanitarian crisis but an economic one as well. About 11% of the federal budget, or $665 billion goes to economic security programs every year. Child poverty alone is estimated to cost the U.S. over $1 trillion based on the latest research. So how did poverty become such a big issue in the U.S. and why is it so difficult to end it?

Why The U.S. Can’t End Poverty
I believe it is more of a “won’t solve poverty” situation than a “can’t.”
This is an underrated comment. With the amount of clothes, food we throw away in this country is crazy.
With the housing problem, I don't know why big companies are buying up property with there are citizens trying to save up and buy land.
The US can make steps forward towards a solution, but unfortunately we are greedy. Greed and pride will be this country's downfall.
"Can't" is the right word because people must want to change before anyone can help them. Near DC (not sure other parts of USA), janitors make $22 per hour. Guess what! No USA citizens apply to these jobs.

Inflation is far more harmful to individuals than a collapsing stock or property market because it directly affects people's cost of living, which they immediately feel. It is not surprising that the current market sentiment is extremely pessimistic. In today's economy, assistance is critical if we are to survive.

America is currently plagued by the hydra-headed evil duo of inflation and recession. The worst part about this recession is that consumers are racking up credit card debt. In April alone, credit card debt went up 20% while rates have doubled in a year. Inflation is so high that consumers are literally taking debt for basic life necessities. Collapse has indeed begun..

People that have never been poor dont realize it is hell living in poverty every day. It is almost impossible to escape.
i rented a room, ate only what i cook for all but 2x a week, put off marriage (re:kids) until my 30s and choose to study what pays the most. im familiar with the fear of knocks and being recognised by someone i know.

The unfortunate, boring truth is that voters are more divided than they have ever been in the history of this country. @@billworden6642 They are too busy trying to just make it, Bill. They are worrying about keeping a roof over their heads, even if it's their car. They are worrying, and even planning, how to feed their children even if they do not eat themselves. They are trying to keep their homes heated. They are trying to make it to doctor's appointments for their health. Many would love to further their education but cannot monetarily afford to do so, or can not afford the time to do so. It is NOT a LACK OF CARE for themselves rather it is simply SURVIVAL.
@@SimpleMandy I totally understand that. They are in a hole. Holes are hard to climb out of but in order to do it. a person has to have a plan and be ready and willing to make the sacrifices needed to make it happen. In most cases, there are addiction problems or mental problems that leads people to reject help. In cases where people have children, there is help, but we don't do any favors by creating a woke society where women are told they don't need men or intact families to raise their kids. It's much easier to avoid putting oneself in a hole than to have to climb out of it but even though we have compulsory education in every crack and corner of America, we don't even teach basic life skills in school. Education has been run by progressives for at least the last fifty years. They spend far too much time on progressive indoctrination and far too little time in preparing people for life.
Even when you mention going back to school, that far too often involves spending four or six years trying to get a degree in a useless 'progressive' degree like women's studies or black studies that just makes the person hate the world rather than teaching them how to succeed in the world. There are currently more jobs available than workers. The best education for the poor is just to work and learn a skill or a trade, learn how to start a small business on the side to supplement income that could eventually grow into a very profitable life, and to learn how to invest so that a person's money is working for them even while they sleep. The most important lesson to learn is good habits that keep people out of trouble, hopefully before they get into trouble. In the end, there is no way to save most people who don;t want to save themselves.
There are also other unintended consequences that result, both for the people who are supposedly being saved but also for a society that starts losing a standard reward system. When progressive mayors start putting homeless into hotels, many more homeless people show up to be saved. And why wouldn't they if they are also struggling with no plan of how to work their way out of the hole they are in. Once they are in the system, it is no different since they will lose more than they can gain by trying to climb the ladder. But someone has to pay for the growing welfare rolls through higher costs on everything that consumers buy. Who makes up the biggest part of the consumer base? The middle class. That is why the middle class begins to disappear in a Marxist society, along with all the graft and corruption and inefficiencies that occur in government bureaucracies.
The point isn't to argue why people shouldn't care. The point is to shift toward what works to lift the poor in a society instead of devolving into a deeper and deeper welfare state where the citizenry gets poorer and weaker and more dependent as the bureaucracy gains all the money and power and control and ownership.
I did everything right: joined the military, went to college, and grad school. I even relocated across the country twice for better career opportunities. After $80k in student loans, it’s still tough finding a job. The most I ever made was $70k/annually a couple years ago. I’m a business major and ventured into the IT industry to troubleshoot accounting software. Biggest mistake I ever made. That job was very stressful and the cookie-cut training didn’t provide solutions to clients’ unique problems. I was told to research, research & research. Then, be criticized later for taking too long. I was eventually terminated and haven’t found the same pay since. My wife is barely holding down the bills while I constantly apply to jobs. A degree is simply not enough. Now, employers want certifications which also cost money that I don’t have. I no longer think the US is the richest country in the world. It’s definitely not the most equitable after investing so much in education.
The good jobs are also sent outside of the US. Those nice online positions are taken by someone else.

When 3 out of every 4 Americans between the ages of 23 and 40 say that they can't afford to purchase a home, we have a systemic problem on our hands that goes beyond personal responsibility. Many Baby Boomers would be struggling in this current financial environment and they know it. Both Houses and rent have quadrupled in price, yet the median income has remain unchanged for almost 20 years despite ever growing inflation.
Thats because Washington just prints money on command of the biggest banks. By increasing the money supply they increase proprty values while crushing wages. The solution join unions and use the strike weapon against the bosses. Make evry job a union job and demnd that the government fud a real public works program building things we need instead handouts to the too big too fail.

I would say that a part of it is the "american tradition" of non-inherited property. Every generation has to essentially start over again from their parents. I've seen it happen. parents own property, then either reverse mortgage it or sell off to retire at a leased condo. Kids maybe get some money after the fed takes death taxes. At best the previous generation leaves behind knicknacks.

My poor mother worked so hard, and ended up dying at 51 years old because she didn't have health insurance. She went to the ER in agonizing pain and they sent her home claiming that she likely had a UTI. She bled to death internally that night.

First graph of poverty, I wonder what changed in 1980? Reagan and tax cuts. Poverty had been decreasing until then. Current economy is a pyramid scheme and we are closer to 1880s where monopolies ruled and economy was boom and bust until 1945-1980. Corporations have capitalism when economy is good and socialism when there is a bust.
People and corporations should want to help pay for and solve poverty problem as it is dragging us all down and preventing amazing growth- remember corporations who hated each other coming together in ww2, and then growth and mega projects and accomplishments post ww2? Why? Why did it slow and stop?
I have read some economists who term Cities as MLMs and can’t sustain without growth. Once a city and suburbs get so big they then fall into disrepair.

Lastly I think Richard reich also pointed out that in 1970s and 1980s the stock market changed; something about a switch to paying investors, and stock buy backs, instead of reinvesting in their infrastructure and employees.
People are working and there is little or nothing to show for it. everybody is basically working to sort out one bill or the other. no savings.

How can I grow my portfolio to outpace inflation and maintain a successful long-term strategy? I have been reading of investors making about $250k profit in this current crashing market, and I need ideas on how to achieve similar profits.
You’re right! The current market might give opportunities to maximize profit, but in order to execute such effective transactions, you must be a skilled practitioner.
I agree, that's the more reason I prefer my day to day invt decisions being guided by a invt-coach, seeing that their entire skillset is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying off risk as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, coupled with the exclusive information/analysis they have, it's near impossible to not out-perform, been using a invt-coach for over 2years+ and I've netted over 1.5million

More importantly, people are paying taxes and get nothing for their tax dollars.
Even for working class, the underlying fear is always there. If something goes wrong like layoffs, this can be your case to consider.
That is one reason for keeping the homeless population as visible as possible, scare the middle class into conformity.

I was almost homeless twice in my life, simply because I was laid off or couldn't find work during the recession. The only thing that kept me from living in a tent, was family members who could afford to help me out. Not everyone has that privilege.
I was a "per subscription" upper mid class in a supposedly secure job, just lay off and low mid class. Thanks to familiy, still not low class but it can come at this lifetime. There are just no jobs!

Honestly I think the problem is embedded within the structure of the society itself. Poverty is a consequence by design.
We can't end poverty because we think we can't end poverty. Politicians debate budgets while they eat steak for lunch.
So, no one in the government attempts to do anything. Everything looks good from their office. So, what's the problem right? It's so easy to not care.
And no one privately does anything. No charity showed up. And the cavalry was not coming to rescue anyone. I remember being outside one day and looking around and thought. The calvary is not coming.
My fantasy at that time was that the state would remove me from my home and take me somewhere else.
I grew up in extreme poverty. Moving in with relatives who only took us in because there was nowhere else for us to go. I knew deep inside that I was not welcome anywhere.
Hey kids are expensive right? I was very aware of my burdensome presence. Especially when it came to family and friends. I didn't have dental care for six years. And ended up with permanent damage to my teeth. I was also injured in an accident but I was not taken to the hospital. I healed up but with permanent damage. I had surgery maybe 34 or so years later because I simply had to.
One of my friends Dad was still complaining about my eating at their house as a teenager. This was 25 years after the fact. I had no response as he spoke. Because he was right. I did eat there often.
At age 14 , I was sent 750 miles away with zero notice. It was literally "take your bicycle to the trash, pack one small suitcase and get in the car". I kept failing in public school. And ended up with an 8th grade education and a GED. But once I left home I was free.
We couldn't even stay together as a family. At one point I didn't even see my mom for a whole year. I think I was 14 to 15 years old. When it happened.
I owned a few mismatched clothing items and one jacket. I did not own one presentable outfit.
No one asked me anything about how it affected me or if I was okay. I actually didn't get out of poverty until I left home at age 17. My Dad had asked me to leave home at that time because I was too expensive. He seemed so mad as he spoke.
My parting gift was a very old car that he had paid $135. for.
He handed me the keys and within ten minutes asked me when I was leaving. It was my 17th birthday present. My reply was quick. I told him I was leaving soon. It took me two months to finally get out.

I worked wherever I could, earning little money. I was afraid a lot. I hadn't even cried about it. Imagine that.
I taught myself engineering by purchasing used hardcover books. I read voraciously. And developed a career. At age 29 I shared a cubicle with two degreed engineers. Who didn't understand how I had learned my trade. My entire career, I was asked similar questions. I never told them that I only graduated from 8th grade and had a GED
I would attend engineering and management meetings and look around the conference room table. And think, oh yeah Masters from an Ivy league school. Oh that's an MBA guy there. And so on.
At age 50, after all of my kids had a chance to go to college. It became my turn. I had been waiting for decades for that opportunity. I worked full time and commuted to a job 62 miles from home as I went to evening school and Saturday classes. I ended up with a business degree in 2013.
At age 64 I earned my MBA.
I'll never forget the past though, I tried to. But poverty gets inside and just tears you up. Especially as an adolescent and then a teenager. At that age you just don't have the tools to handle it.
I will always carry those emotional wounds. It happens every time someone asks me "where are you from, which high school did you graduate from"? That's when the shame component rears its head.
I'll always remember those times. And how much it hurt.
Hey I had it good. I wasn't outside standing in the rain or hustling for a few dollars. I wasn't sleeping in a freaking tent on a sidewalk during winter. I could obtain a driver's license and other IDs.
I know I went on a bit here. But I had something to say damnit.
I think it's cause corporations and the government know that if there's always a homeless and impoverished population, there will always be a group of people in desperation or survival mode. With that, they can keep wages down and maximize profits cause they know someone just as desperate is waiting to replace you.
..And then harvest the youth to serve the military industrial complex to keep it all together, because anything is better than living in poverty, even the front line

I grew up poor...however I graduated high school, I got a job and I waited until I was married before I had children. I'm middle class and have made good financial decisions most of my life. Thank God I live in America or I wouldn't be where I am today.

The reality is that if you are making under the federal poverty level for yourself, it means you aren't working a full time job in todays America in the vast majority of cities across the country. The lowest you are going to find the majority of companies paying these days is $15 an hour. Do places pay less than that? Sure - but they are pretty few and far between especially in normal-larger sized cities. Even if you happen to make the bare minimum for your state, a 40 hour work week in virtually all states would put you above the federal poverty line. Secondly - if you happen to be living in poverty and can't even afford to take care of yourself, why in the world do you think it's a good idea to have children? It doesn't mean you will never have children but you need to get yourself into a place in life where you and whoever you are with are able to handle the cost of having a child without expecting the government to shoulder the load for you.
My father was born in 1940 - 2020 deceased. He told me 15 yrs before his passing the middle class is shrinking . He said they aren't giving out the 5% - 6 % pay increases today that he got when he was working at General Motors. He said their is enough to go around but the Top 3 % of the population control or have 90 %

This is my reaction and interpretation after listening to the new president of Argentina on the world economic forum over there in Switzerland there.
After listening to him several times.
I began to like all of the points that he was making and as I was liking the points that he was making with his facts I was very much reminded of an old book that I had read.
The book I refer to is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.
For his speech embodied many of the same elements that were embodied in John galt's speech from that book.
The new president from Argentina also introduced a few other elements from that book from the speech that was given by the character in the book Atlas Shruggedd, known as Francisco and his speech on money.
His speech though shorter than Atlas shrugs material was most enlightening and entertaining to listen to in the real world as opposed to the unreal real world presented in Atlas Shrugged.
On the subject of books there is one book that I highly recommend that every person on the planet would be well advised to read.
It is not a book of fiction, it is a book of fact.
The book's title is natural law the books author is Lysander Spooner.
I have found this book to be the best little book I have ever read on law of any kind. A three chapter 17 Page book. If you read it you will understand where mankind has gone wrong by moving away from natural law and moving toward authoritarian man-made law.
After considering the information in these books I decided I would take up the challenge of rewriting one of the most special laws contained within the Bill of Rights that I would rewrite the Second Amendment.

Whats required is structural changes to how america does business. A housing market that doesnt reward commercializing homes. The entire social structure of the us is anti-people, and anti-family. I'm currently on disability and I was homeless at one point while waiting for it to be approved. Things are rough out there and poverty really, really hurts. If you aren't born into wealth in this country, you are one health issue or one bad situation away from living on the streets. The wages are still so low that even full time workers live paycheck to paycheck and are never truly able to build wealth themselves. Everything about our system feels helpless, like you are perpetually swimming upstream. It doesn't have to be like this - we see so many examples of other countries taking better care of their citizens and it works well when done right.
Things simply can't go on like this. Most of our biggest issues we face today can be traced back to poverty. Hell, crime itself is linked to poverty. All of this should be a no-brainer - we need to take care of our people so that we can continue to thrive as a country. What's it going to take? Another depression? Congressmen dying off? Like what is the point of having a society if the goal isn't to constantly improve it?

100% I was lucky and moved from my area of the UK (high poverty, not much opportunity) to a different one for a software engineering apprenticeship. I got paid to learn, did not require any degree or education beforehand and I was able to afford to rent a room. I have since completed my apprenticeship and now earn double the amount I was hired on and have so much room for growth. Had I stayed in my home region I'd have been trapped in the same cycles despite all the talent and potential I had to offer.

Many of the most successful europeans end up moving to the US, because we don't take all their earnings. The best go to where the money is. However, these two things do not always have to go together, and state governments are a great example of that, considering how many of them have literally no income tax.

I grew up in the 50's and 60's - baby boomer generation. Millions of American fathers had jobs that paid enough to support millions of American families. The discretionary spending by millions of economically stable American families created the largest economic expansion in all of human history. What happened?
In the late 70's corporate America got greedy. Inflation and the Federal Reserve's bone-headed policy of raising interest rates put millions of previously employed fathers out of work. Million of mothers were forced to return to the workforce in numbers not seen since WWII.
And most destructive of the American middle-class - Reaganomics. Trickle down economics was a complete and total scam.
Good paying domestic manufacturing jobs disappeared in large numbers, replaced by cheaply made goods from China. Corporate earnings soared while the customers of corporations needed two incomes to almost support the middle-class lives previously enjoyed by millions of American families.
Reagan conned millions of Americans into supporting the destruction of their own lives.
Trump is trying to pull off an even more destructive scam today. Trump wants to destroy the very foundations of the constitutional rights of all Americans. Reagan never preached dictatorship. As bad as his economic policies were he never said he would be a dictator if given the chance.
They literally could have asked any poor person what the situation is and they’d get there answer. But nope they’re all hiding behind their fancy desks asking themselves “why can’t we fix this” instead of solving anything.
No one will ever solve poverty, because every society has its share of total screw ups who will never be able to fend for themselves. Societies that only contain capable and motivated people simply do not exist. The left-wing stupidity of the type loved by this channel says "hey, let's punish all the capable people because there's others who are total screw ups. Let's make everyone poor." You do not improve the lives of poor people by making more people poor.

When people are suffering and have enough resources for an immediate amelioration of that suffering (drinking, smoking, dining out as you say) they'll take it. They don't believe in a way out. Orwell noted this in his Road to Wigan Pier on the poor financial and dietary preference of the working poor, it's also been noted by economists who constructed the perfect diet for people in developing countries who could actually afford sufficient nutrition and calories but refused to follow it. Frankly the same thing is true of much of the middle class, most people would rather by a 5 series BMW on finance then invest. You're theoretically right, and in practice wrong. People just won't make those choices and never have.
The wealthy will tell you that poverty is necessary, and they are correct. If everyone got a fair slice of the pie, the wealthy couldn't take slices larger than everyone else. In order for someone to have a larger slice, someone else has to have a smaller slice. As long as the wealthy own the government, poverty will never go away.

In 1963 I made about $75 a week. Couldn't really afford to move out of my parents' home, which was completely abusive and unlivable. Didn't apply for jobs I might have liked because I would not have made enough to get away from my profoundly dysfunctional family. But, I didn't not have crippling debt from going to college. Rents for apartments were about $75/month. These figures are unrealistic for 2023.

I was amazed at how many of those people are truly out of touch to the reality of what is going on. Just because you say it on the news doesn't make it true. Our seniors are suffering. I know because I'm one of them. Many of my friends are too. Adding around $60 a month and then taking most of our food stamps away doesn't add up. It leaves us poorer than we were. Everyone is concerned about the children and I understand that because I have grandchildren. However the seniors and disabled are being ignored . There isn't any real housing that we can afford. So this report is not honest. Things aren't truly being done to help, especially those of us on a fixed income

When they talked about senior citizens at 11:28, I was shocked at how they made it seem as if the elderly have made great gains economically. I dont know too many seniors that are doing "well" and dont need assistance from anyone else. It will only get worse as they keep raising the age for retirement and leaving a donut hole gap from the age these companies are forcing early retirement. Its insane. It will be even worse when millennials become senior citizens. All of the government programs we pay into, most likely will be non existent like social security and medicaid. They will have some silly excuse but it will add to the homelessness and poverty amongst seniors. Add to the fact that we dont have the basics we need by middle age and the government will be forced to contend with this level of poverty that will be untennable for the country.

@Victor Coster 'developed' nations that are responsible for next to no medical innovation, technological innovation, and with socialistic governments. They also have populations that pale in comparison to the US. That's also not mentioning that the US is almost entirely responsible for global peace, dedicating 2.5% GDP to NATO, whereas other countries only donate half their agreed percentage, which happens to be only a hundredth of what the US gives due to our much larger GDP. Until we stop securing those countries safety, and figure out our countries' hundreds of billions of dollars of debt, no. It *can't* be fixed.
Sure, take that 1%, they'll simply outsource to other countries, and then we'll be left with absolutely nothing to stand on.
In America most places require a car in-order to access employment, education, food, healthcare and housing. Cars can be extremely expensive and alternative modes of transportation can be a combination of unsafe and unreliable ( All the money was spent subsidizing cars). Ending car dependency is one of the biggest things America can do to eliminate poverty.
Go be a trucker a company will let you drive their truck while you get paid for driving. I don't even spend money on gas for my car anymore hardly at all because I only drive it when I come back for home time lol.
This is so true but it's never going to happen, unfortunately. Big Auto is in bed with the government. Plus most Americans (especially Conservative Republicans) do not want public transportation. I used to ride the bus and yes, it's not safe. Many homeless, drug addicts, ex-cons, and mentally ill people ride it. That's not the case in Europe, for example, where most of the normal population rides it.

When I discover how much American folks have to pay to get healthcare I was shocked, like, how on earth my South American country provide free universal healthcare regardless of your income, but the "richest country in the world" doesn't.
USA is broke. 30 trillion in debt. We can't defend the world anymore. we spend more in military than everyone.

My recent 5 minute ambulance ride $1200 AFTER INSURANCE. If you have to take an air ambulance you will be charged $30,000 to $600,000 AFTER INSURANCE by a profit seeking private equity company, they basically own all the air ambulances.
private equity companies are also buying up all the dentists and small medical businesses so they can squeeze more labor out of the medical professionals and demand more money from patients and give them less but more expensive care.

I was arguing with a doctor about taking an air ambulance for my son because I thought it would ruin us even with insurance. It ended up being a couple thousand dollars. Not great, but not worth arguing over given the circumstances. It sucks they couldn't tell me upfront what the pricing would be, but just so people don't completely panic like I did, I feel like you should be more careful about posts like this.
Honey, it only became the richest country be printing massive amounts of money and is now facing the consequences for it's action. The "richest country in the world" makes no sense when people here literally live paycheck to paycheck and don't even have $1000 in the savings account. After I moved to U.S. I had to get familiar with how the private medicare worked. I couldn't just go to any doctor or facility and get the care I would need without understanding your own level of coverage. It was stressful to have to check for coverage and then to analyze all the bills I would get and to call around and chase people for any discrepancies. Where I came from I never had to worry about such thing as the doctor's office would bill the government and I would never see a single bill from them.
I ran into the same issue when i first moved to the US, this country is going downhill pretty quick.

I can understand how having to manage your own affairs as an adult can be challenging if it's always been done for you before....
There is no free ride. People who have ",free" medical care are paying for it with huge taxes. The young healthy person who takes care of themselves and rarely goes to the doctor is now subsidizing the fat schlub who smokes and drinks excessively and has all types of medical issues. You also inevitably must ration health care, because there is no such thing as unlimited medical resources. People in Canada must wait months if not years to get procedures done.
The US definitely needs a better health care system, but single payor is not the way to go.
Most healthcare insurances are useless anyway. I have to pay up front $1500 deductible before any benefit kick in, and plus the $35 copay every physician visit. That's not it, coverage benefits do not cover 100% of a full cost of hospital or physician charges, and I have to pay the rest didn't cover. I have both wrist injury in an unbearable pains for 1-1/2 months and i couldnt afford for the orthopedic appointment. I took ibuprofen 4 pills total 800mg every 7 hrs for 1-1/2 months. It is killing me!
So if you have a disability what do you do?
You can't have a nation of slaves without poverty, money is not worth dealing with abuse, and accessing natural resources can get one arrested. Not everyone will tolerate abuse for minor comforts, until that becomes the norm, poverty is unavoidable. Until "because that's the way it is" isn't used as an excuse for parents to allow others to abuse and teach their children to tolerate abuse rather than educate them during their formative years, it can only get worse.

You can just drive around and see how prevalent it is. Rural areas are very often overlooked. Just get off the interstate in “flyover country” and you’ll see what I mean.

When I moved to the US in 1999,I said to my American husband, this country is a third world country, he wouldn't have it.

It's not that the US can't. It's that the US chooses not to end poverty. The 1% in secret satan-worshipping societies who control the world want poverty. It's part of their plan to keep themselves rich.
My mom had similar back in the late 80s. She had my brother when I was 21. It was just her alone taking care of him as his dad had a mental illness that he would not take care of, and sometimes would get hospitalized, and she wanted none of that around my brother. My brother was often getting ill so she had to leave work for a few years. She got on assistance but when she went to go back to work, her gap in work made it hard to get a job, and only part time jobs were offered. But if she took those she would lose much of her assistance and make less than if she stayed on assistance. And they counted my income as household income so that made me move out so she wasn't penalized. It can be a tough system to break out of when you want to. She luckily found a place that needed someone full time and liked her past experiences, and didn't care about her gap in work time.

I’m in the military. Currently working 3 jobs. No kids, no spouse, no help from family & friends and I’m barely making it. I’d be lucky if only 1 of my major bills is 2 months behind vs having 3 or 4 major bills that are months behind. It’s like we’re punished & heavily taxed for choosing NOT to have kids, but when ppl see single ppl they think “we’re living the life.” We absolutely are not. EVERY SINGLE financial obligation falls solely on us. Imagine all the bills you have to pay, now imagine paying them SOLELY by yourself with no assistance from a spouse or family. It’s hell out here. And before ppl like to generalize, no the majority of us aren’t out here making stupid large purchases like boats & mustangs-most of us are living below our means & paycheck to paycheck with AT LEAST 1 outside job outside the military. It’s horrible out here for everyone.
I know exactly what you’re saying I work between 80 and 100 hours a week. Unfortunately I am sorry, but I have to work that hard to keep my job I have been single for the past decade. My children are grown and only one still lives at home that being said, I am the only one paying the bills, there is no one to help no spouse or significant other no roommate I’ve tried that and I don’t trust them. There’s no way I’m gonna be able to save for retirement. It just seems hopeless.
Everyone thinks that we have it easy because it’s pretty much just us but the entire country is based on a two person income when they say medium income, that’s a family of four with two people working yet that is far from the case most families we get screwed on taxes that’s for sure
