This is not a 2.5 million dollar Nordhavn and it shows in the wood accent design and finishes. Newer Nordhavn's also have standing room in the engine compartments. That said, this is a wonderful trawler and if you don't have to have the latest in fashion, this is a great live-aboard. If I had the assets I would sell them all to live my last days on this beautifully crafted yacht. Alas, some of us are only meant to watch, admire and dream. Cheers to whoever ended up with this beautiful vessel, and thanks Captain Q for taking the time to show her off.
A beautiful trawler , thank you. I'm of the retirement age group . As you said, there comes a time when the sailing becomes a little harder. All the best, Hal
You just gotta love the captains nonchalant type of humor, with the ceiling fan in the master bedroom being on the low side, “that could be real exciting”. Lol. And then at the end with Randayy saying that sounded a bit desperate and the captain reminding Randayy that he’s very close to the edge 😂🤣😂 you guys are so great together you really complement each other, it’s obvious that you’ve been friends for a very long time keep up the great videos
How perfect. My favorite boatbuilder(Nordhavn) being reviewed by my favorite Capt. And 2 days before my bday. Thanks for the video! Always worth my time. Keep em coming. ⚓⛵🛥
I love the fact that you are doing power boats too!! I am hoping that you can find some really affordable but awesome ones for us folk that are a bit older that don't have the stamina, experience, or the wherewithal to sail. The age factor is the exact reason why the FPB Yacht was created by the fellow who designed and built many race-winning sail boats. As he and his wife got older they still wanted to travel on the seas but weren't able to sail. Sometimes power boats are the answer. Thank you for this Captain Q and Randay!!! Give Sea Dog a hug from me too please!!!

Thank you Captain Q..! You did an outstanding job showing us this bargain priced Norhavn. Because of the fact that my beloved wife recently passed on, I downsized from a 43' trawler and just bought a new Ranger Tug R-31 CB as it is certainly more manageable for me. But that being said, I enjoy these types of videos where I get to look at other boats; big, small, power, and sail. I just gave you a 'thumbs up' and subscribed. I'll be on the lookout for more interesting videos from you! Well done sir...!
My sincere condolences to you and your family. It sounds as though she might have been a water woman as-well. Your down sizing but staying the course will deliver you many manageable memories. Thank you for watching and subscribing
Wow I love it wish I could buy it thank you for all of your hard work my family loves all of your great videos this is my dream yacht thank you so much for sharing
I know its cheap, but that air filter on the engine doesn't pass my sniff test. TON of deferred maintenance on this boat. I can deal with cosmetic things like the paint being shabby(that's like paint the boat or new Honda Civic), the interior being worn doesn't bother me, reupholstering is easy. If the mechanicals haven't been kept up, you are just going to be constantly fixing things and having issues unless you bite the bullet and do a major refit and replace everything(like $100k+) Still though that is A TON of space for a 46' boat and I love the way Nordharven builds their boats, they're a quality product.
Thats my dream boat to start a family on, live aboard and cruise the west coast of BC. Its too bad im not quite ready for that yet. Whoever buys that boat is going to get a nice one!
This boat looks great and am 100 % it has found a new owner by now, who will also enjoy taking her out to sea. Nordhavns are built to last and if you don't like the interior you can always update her a bit. Fully stabilized for just 200.000 USD is truly a steal. Just the stabilizers alone would set you back about 100.000 USD if you would think about installing them on a boat that does not have them.
Thank you I have great entertainment watching you and listening to your stories and advice and experience I am chatting to you from Australia and we love the water
Thank you again for this great showing of the Nordhavn Like you mentioned we are getting older and the hauling in of large sails are not more so easy . This trawler would be the exceptional boat for our West coast of B.C. Thank you again and stay safe!
This is about the only Nordhavn my banks says I could obtain. Not the pretties dry stack and really small galley from the current models but it does get me into one and not looking at YT videos dreaming about it year after year. I've never seen this floorplan before. Very different than the 2000 boats. Most of it is surprisingly well laid out being so different. Not a big fan of crawling in the engine room. But overall, fulfills most of my wants, especially price. Has to be other ones out there.
“Naiad stabilizer” this is cool, we have some thing similar on our airlines planes. The “yaw damper”, it prevents from an undesired maneuver called “dutch roll”. 👍 Trying to return some thing to captain Q!
Nordhavn is synonymous with great designs and woodworking. This is an early Nordhavn made in Taiwan and not the Chinese mainland as most are made now except for the largest models made in Sweden. Better made than the newer boats and they don't have the Chinese engines (John Deer) these have American made main engine and a European made wing engine. These are very thick fiberglass hulls that stand up to impacts very well. Love the boat.
I’m a big fan of these Nordhaven’s. We cruised around Cape Cod on a similar itinerary to “Tugnacious” this summer. Really sturdy and cool looking boats. I’ll keep sailing though!
Nice covering of the NORDHAVN...as a 70+ year old (recuperating) sailor, a trawler would be my next step, should I buy another boat. More such videos would be great. Thanks!
You were a little too excited about that troller. However, what a solid vessel. Bridge windows are fabulously rounded and 360* view quite nice. Safe boat with stability. A winner. 🏆 "for power a boat".
You don't have to old and decrepit to appreciate a nice trawler yacht. Especially a Nordhaven, one of the top boat builders of that type of boat. And this one sure has all the bells and whistles. For the Pacific Northwest with typically calm winds in summer and some narrow channels between islands this would be a great 3 season boat. Thanks for the tour.
Do like that you added powerboats. I watch your channel with a serious face, and every so often my wife asks me why I’m cracking up laughing. I tell her I’m watching a yacht channel.
Great review and added alternative giving another option for stay close to the briny blue. It is sometimes nice to hear another’s point of view. Thanks again Q & R.
It's nice to see you branch out into trawlers. The reason for two side decks is docking, just try picking up a mooring that's on the side with no walk around. The world is full of bargain priced Albins, CHBs, Marine Traders, Grand Banks, and so on, not all are equal, there is a lot of things to avoid, like wood construction, teak decks, cored hulls. I bought my Albin 33 (Single Ford Lehman 120) years ago, it was a very good choice.
The davits are holding the dinghy w-a-a-y out at the end of a long lever arm. Considering the weight of the outboard and the rib, I would worry about looking behind to find the dinghy had sailed off on an adventure of its own. As for the DIY upgrades, the install of the monitors portside in the pilot house could be much better. I think I am spoiled from looking at the quality construction of most blue water boats. In contrast, amateur construction almost has to look a bit shabby. That flying bridge is certainly an example - I think in a blow it would become a fly-away bridge, giving one the opportunity to re-do the thing from its base up. In general, I like trawlers and motor sailors, especially for their use of space. Losing the masts and outdoor steering cockpit changes the design constraints, and frees up better use of spaces.
First it's a Nordhavn at an outstanding price. Even though there are some things I would improve she's beautiful and I never expected to see one of these yachts so affordable. I've dreamt of owning a Nord for a long time now, it's a real shame this is available when I don't have the finances to snag her. I imagine whoever buys this vessel is going to be extremely happy, they really don't build a better boat than a Nord...
Belfast ( County Antrim) and Maine ( a river in County Antrim) and you managed to organise the weather to be like Co Antrim too..... well done Captain Q.
Really lovely. Just the sort of thing I need when I am too old to pull up sails. But at only 77 I’ve a few more miles to yet get under the keel of my sailboat.
I have to confess this was my first motor boat video ever. Usually I am not interested but I found this video very interesting and constructive. Thanks Captain. Thanks Ran-Day.
Hey Captain Q! So glad you made this video. I’m not there just yet (almost) but as we get older certain truths are inescapable so yes a power boat is in my future somewhere. Question (and really a recommendation), can you make it to the Pacific Northwest? We have some of the best coastal sailing in the world and a plethora of sailboats to go with it. You could easily film an entire season over here. I’m sure it would be worth your time. Thanks and keep up the great work.
Certainly a great trip to undertake..... However, I'm not sure that I'd like to do it in a motor boat! The cost of the fuel would put me off and the thought of that engine running non-stop for weeks at a time while crossing!
@@paulsinclair3401 the 146hp main engine sips fuel with it’s pinky up. Unlike most motorboats, these Nordhavn are known for using only 1-2 gallons per hour at 5-7 knots.
@@jlewis4587 sounds great if that's so...... but the Nordhaven website which gives full statistics for that boat at various revs and speeds gives some double that as being the norm for that boat with that engine...... To run it economically, one would have to be averaging speeds of around 2 to 3 knots and even then, it won't be as economical as the same engine in a Motor Sailer, as you also have the option of a sail, plus the different hull displacement inherent in a sailing boat of any sort. So without any doubt, I totally agree with you that this Nordhaven is a very fine boat for somebody wanting a Motor Boat and they'd be hard pushed to find a more economical boat to run..... however, my only point is that for those willing to do some sailing a Motor Sailer wins! But different boats for different needs as always.
Wonderful video as usual! I went from sailboats to a few power boats. I dont think you can compare a sailboat experience and a powerboat. Like comparing Soccer and baseball. Thanks again Captain!
This was from the Days Nordhaven were little ships. Wish I could have it. The new ones are nice but there is something about the oldies. You can see this has been used and used, not a dock boat.
