Hey guys! Apologies for the not so great lighting and the slightly delayed upload. When trying to balance content creation with a regular 9-5 job, sometimes you can't get the ideal filming situations you want to have....
Anyways, here is my first video I am filming because of a few subscribers requesting it! If you are a military spouse or thinking about becoming a military spouse, it doesn't mean you are destined for a life of unemployment. There are a lot of options for military spouses to find employment and even have a long-term career and enjoy the same opportunities for promotions that one might find with a a more "traditional" career path. Enjoy!

The other difference between GS and NAF or AAFES, etc is that GS positions are civil service (appropriated funds) which means that employees are paid through Congress’ budget and we actually have an “oath of office” when we join. The application process is a bit more competitive but they do offer preferences for spouses. You’ll find them in the healthcare centers, financial buildings, schools, etc.
For NAF (non-appropriated funds) and I think exchange systems, employees are paid through revenue generated from the service that serves the military community (like MWR, bowling alley, childcare centers, etc).
So many options to choose from! :)
Thank you so much for the clarification! Seriously thank you
@@Caitlin_Mahina you’re welcome! I shared and then I forgot all about about contractors too!
Super helpful!! Thanks for sharing this :)
I enjoyed this video so much. Gave me so much hope. Great video, thanks♡
I'm so glad I could help!
Loved this video. I appreciate that you included content creation, and touched on the option to develop and own your own business (photography). I'm developing an author business....yay for portable/remote options!
I'm so glad you liked it! And that is so awesome that you are developing your own business, I wish you the best of luck!
So helpful! You got a new subscriber!🤍
Thank you so much lovely!
Thanks for this great information! I really love your videos, I started watching them few days ago, they put my feet on the ground without being so negative of what is being a military wife and what I can do, what to expect, etc.
Aw I am so glad I could help! You've got this
This is SO helpful, I just graduated college a few months ago and want to continue my career in the field I am in (and obviously just started). I was worried that I would not be able to find anything pertaining to my field that I went to school for and did not work another dead end jobs that have no career advancement. I never really hear of many military spouses having full time jobs or recently completing college without having kids to take care of so its been hard to find a point of view/advice with someone in a similar situation as me. (no hate to them because I respect their hard work very much) But anyways thank you!!
No problem! I am so glad I could help :)
I love your integrity
Hello! Did you get your list from notes you made or from perhaps a article/website? I'd love to see the list! Specifically, the work from home jobs!
What is the website for the GS jobs? I could not find it. My husband is a delivery man and he owns a commercial van.
What about massage therapists. Are we supposed to get licensed through the city each time if we are only massaging on post? Or if we are massaging the public? There are different hours requirements for each state. I don’t know who to ask and to know that the info they are giving me is correct. I can’t get straight answers because neither military or civilian are aware of the rules of the other.
I graduated from hs and i didnt go to college bc i wanted to take a break from school but my bf then hit me w marrying and it kinda js left me all confused on what to do w myself career wise. I work in a school (before/after school program) nothing serious where it requires a degree and like i want to work in that field but money wise, especially where my bf is stationed, i wouldnt be able to afford going to college. I dont know if id have to have a degree to work in the education field in the marine corps. So id really love some advice from you !!
You mentioned some ladies who do wedding photography...Do you know how they start all over again in a different place or country?
Good question, I do not know because I myself have never done wedding photography. I would check out Savannah Glembin aka weights n freedom on youtube and instagram, she is a Marine Vet turned spouse who does wedding photography all over the US even though she is based in California. I feel like it probably has to do with the fact that she has such a big following. I'm sure there are options to help you through a move like establishing a website and having a yelp page where you can change the business address so when people search for wedding photography in your new area, they can find you! You can also use facebook and instagram ads that promote locally.
@@Caitlin_Mahina That's a good point about Yelp. Thank you so so much. I will check her out.
Hi love the content! I have a question! My fiancé is a soon to be airman and I am an Esthetician (skin specialist) do you have any suggestions for estheticians/beauticians?
Hi! I do not have experience as an esthetician but I have heard of girls working for places like LaserAway that have multiple locations across the country! I feel like finding somewhere that has multiple locations would help :)
@@Caitlin_Mahina I appreciate you thank you! I do work for a massage envy so perhaps franchises can transfer
Oh my God! Me too. Waiting for my state board date. However I thought about this a lot. He just left for boot camp for the navy. I know our job can mostly rely on our clientele which is mostly associated to planting roots for our regulars. However I believe we can get hired at Spas or other places that we can work. It’s just about the living situation and if they want to hire you or not. But we will figure this out and hopefully it works for our best interest. :)
Hey I know you posted this video a long time ago, but are CG spouses able to apply at like Navy exchanges for example? Just curious :)
I believe so!
@@Caitlin_Mahina Thanks for getting back!
What about water treatment? I have an AS in water technology
From my understanding, most military bases have their own water treatment facilities that they privately own. I would assume that is a GS job but I am not 100% certain on that. I am confident you could find a job on base or any other nearby military or government water treatment plants!
@@Caitlin_Mahina thank you for your reply, 😊
Thank you for talking about this subject, my husband is going to enlist soon so both of your videos definitely helped me with tips. My questions is that I already work at a Post Office and wonder if you’ve ever heard of the military “requesting” the worker or if it’s easier for them to move the spouse because they’re already a government worker technically
Hi! Thank you for your comment. I have never heard of anything like you are describing, but I do know that whenever I have done research on spouses that work for the government, there are options open to them within their organization to help them when they move. I would talk to a manager/boss or the HR department and see what they have to say regarding any specifics. Best of luck!
Thanks! Fingers crossed!!
@@jessicamythis8782 Hi Jessica I’m in a similar situation if you ever find anything out please share. I’m also a postal employee with my Husband in the Air Force and would love to know what’s my options.
@@meika_lavish2301 Hi! Sorry, I haven't answered back, I was trying to get around to finding a definitive answer. So far, I've heard from my manager that we would have to reassign ourselves through liteblue BUT you have to be at least 1 year as a regular before you can even transfer out of your district (which I am not). My manager is also going to look into it more if there is some sort of waiver for military spouses to transfer anyways
@@jessicamythis8782 thank you 😊
Can I get a job as an accountant or banker being a military wife?
Definitely! I am a banker right now :) Look for banks that tend to be near military bases, like Navy Federal!
