I was a military wife for 24 years. It was the most difficult but also the best life. Get involved with your spouses unit, volunteer if you can. And remember your life is what you both will make it. I miss the life everyday.

Seasoned spouse here, a lot of really good tips. My main suggestion is to be flexible and have humor in everything. Military life is sporatic and insanely frustrating. I really appreciated you mentioning having friends outside of the military. Don't be afraid of civilians, I have made so many wonderful friends at all of our duty stations. If you have little kiddos, join your local Y. (obviously not right now, but in the future!) They have childcare and you can have an uninterrupted shower or even just sit in the lobby and read a book. It's two hours of uninterrupted time, I used to work out and knew my children were safe, it was heavenly. Also, don't be afraid to live off base, too. They take all of your BAH and that is money that you can have working for you. If your rent/mortgage is below the BAH limit, you won't pay out of pocket for utilities. This is something my husband and I do, and it has been so fun living in different communities. Just some thoughts, good luck to all of you new spouses, my family and I are encroaching on retirement and could not be more excited. haha

You aced these questions and had some really good advice. I was raised in the military, dad was Army career 32 years, then I was an Army wife. Being raised in the Army I think made me more of the independent type of wife when I grew up. Seeing how mom handled dad being away helped me know it's ok they are away, entertain yourself and keep busy and the time will go by faster than if one sulks all day. So, with my experience you explained it like it is, gave excellent advice which is totally needed for "new wives," and yes, knowing Jesus helps so much, you definitely have your act together! Kudos to you! I enjoy watching you and it brings back memories for me of good times. I am 68 now so it's nice tune in to your channel and take a trip down memory lane.

The animals make it better. My husband is not military, but he has a crazy schedule, and I'm a stay-at-home wife. Our dog is currently sitting at my feet while I work on craft projects, and the cats are snoozing in the other room.
I don't know if you're comfortable doing this, but I am so curious about the commissary. I love watching grocery shopping in other places and wonder if the commissary is more like a grocery store, or a big-box store with everything, or like a military surplus store. If you ever want to do a shop with me at the commissary, I think that'd be fascinating, but I also understand if that's not ok to share! :-)
