@@lakesautomotivediagnostics6509 funny story but I’m sorry for him. Anyway, I really appreciate your support I just bought Dorman lead frame and tomorrow the mechanic will install it. Regards from Mexico!!
Just had my 2013 f150 in for Shifting issues. They told me it had to be reprogrammed. Under recall. So while they had it. I suggested maybe change fluid and filter. They charged me like a grand for that alone. It was good for couple days and now the problem is back
Brought my 2012 f150 fx2 today to the shop throwing the same code. Not wanting to shift out of certain gears and suddenly downshifting to 1st while driving. Speedo stops working as well. Told the shop what code it is throwing and told them about the lead frame. They had it all day just to message me what code it threw and said I need a new transmission.
I guess one good thing about vehicles going full electric are no more transmission issues, and oil changes/filters. Plus way less finding part issues in the future.
Awesome video. Just ordered all the parts on eBay and plan on doing this this weekend coming up. Any way you could list all the tools I’ll need (torque wrench, etc.)? Thanks!
Wondering if you can verify I have an OSS and Lead Frame issue - 2013 F150 would not shift out of 1st. Then it just decided to shift to 3rd and stayed in 3rd until I shut off the truck. At the time only notice the airbag idiot light and that the mileage was missing (dashes only). Turned the truck off then on and fixed. Then it did it again, stayed in 1st then shifted to 3rd and had the airbag light, wrench, and check eng lights with no speedo and no mileage. After turning it off and on several times, the shifting worked, speedo worked but had the airbag and engine lights on. This just started yesterday. Nothing else happening.
@@lakesautomotivediagnostics6509 Just got back from Autozone and they scanned it and the code is P0720 OSS Sensor Circuit. I believe that sensor on a 2013 F150 is on the Lead Frame correct. Which means doing just what you did ? ? Or is there something else that needs to be looked at. I drove down to Autozone and had the check engine light on only. Everything else worked as it should. They did the code test, and now the check engine light is out and all other lights are normal. Everything working as it should for the drive back home. I suspect it will fail again. Question also is if you recommend changing the Lead Frame, is it really a recall option or is that just rumor? 2013 with 141,000 miles. I have read it's 10 years and 150,000 miles.
I think you’re on the right track with the lead frame, I would call your local Ford dealership and give them your Vin number and ask if there are open recalls for the PO 720 I believe there is one, would just have to call and see.
@@lakesautomotivediagnostics6509 Ok...will be doing that. If it turns out to be the issue and they tell me they can't get the part, are Dorman Lead Frames good to use? I know you used one in your video so I am suspecting yes but I just want to make sure. Seems searches for this part are coming up with Out Of Stock. I am trying to prepare for the case of - it's not a recall issue and they also can't get the part, meaning it's up to me to find one and get someone (if not me) to install it. Should I use the Dorman item or only OEM? I am concerned with supply chain issues and all that it might be a long time before one of these items (oem) would be available. Thank you for providing the video and chatting with me regarding this issue. Plan on posting what my outcome is after it's done. One other question - can just the Output Shaft Speed Sensor be replaced and not have to replace the entire Lead Frame? Can the speed sensor be taken out of the Lead Frame and replaced with new speed sensor and use the old Lead Frame? I have been under the impression that the speed sensor is built into the Lead Frame and not a part that can be removed. Can you tell me whether that is the case or not. 2013 F150 6cyl Turbo.
Where did buy buy the lead frame? I call my local ford dealer but they are on back order. They also said it needs to be programed. Did you have yours programed or does it need to be?
I have a question, after changing the leadframe do you need to reprogram it like with forscan or you just need to change it and it will be working? Thanks for the video, I think it will not be so hard to do it you explain it very well
I found two videos for doing this exact job. But neither one of you say what to do if you're missing a transfer tube. I either have to finish this today or get my truck towed. I'm stressed AF
@@kylen1922 I ended up going to the dealer and paying like $15 for the one I was missing. The guy was really helpful. Even printed off a diagram to make sure I was getting the right one by pointing out and verifying which one was missing.
@@kylen1922 I also want to point out that Ive been driving it for 4 months since I did the repair. No problems and running smooth! So I would recommend putting the missing transfer tube in.. vs having to get back into the mess of taking it all apart and adding more tranny fluid all over again!
It’s definitely doable. If you have some good common sense can follow instructions and have a little mechanical knowledge, but I don’t know if I would try it. If you have never had a valve body out. but I definitely wouldn’t trust it for someone else to do if they are inexperienced.
@Lakes Automotive Diagnostics for some reason I had all the screws out and it's stuck on rear side like If there's a screw left. Any idea what can be holding it up. I did everything in order, it's not aligned right ,I can't even put the long screws back in only the short ones line up. Tried wiggling if out but scared to mess if up lol
Double check to make sure you have all the screws out. If you do it should come down as far as lining up back up just take your time and make sure you have the shifting fork rod in correctly. Hope you get it figured out.
Did I hear you correct that you used a Dorman lead frame? I read a lot of forums that those didn’t work very long. I tried a refurbished OEM leadframe, but it failed after a week. Not really sure how you refurbish one anyway. I ended up just getting a new Ford valve body with less frame attached to be sure. It’s my sons truck and he’s about to move across the country and I didn’t want any further issues. How have the Dormans held up in your experience? Thanks.
I have only did a couple. The one in this video was about seven months ago. It’s still doing good I assume or the guy would have came back but I can’t really say from experience. Thanks for watching. Hope you have a great day. but yes, it was a Dorman
@@lakesautomotivediagnostics6509 thanks. I just put a brand new valve body with OEM lead frame and reprogrammed. So far so good, but although it was happening more often it was still intermittently occurring. We will know in about a week. No codes and I don’t think it would be a trans issue. If it happens again I would think wiring or PCM maybe. I think this is it though.
Thanks for this well-made, really helpful video. My 2011 F150 Lariat 3.5L V6 Ecoboost with 83K miles has redently displayed transmission-related problems and it looks like lead frame/OSS repair would be needed. When driven, gear gets stuck at either first or second gear... then after a few miles, and manipulating the gear from neutral, the transmission will run in the normal mode... i.e. no problem shifting. For now, the problem appears as intermittent. I hope the code P0720/P0722 appear when I bring it to the Ford dealership a few miles where I live. If not, I'd let the truck crawl to the dealership when the problem re-appears. I am the 2nd owner and I guess the vehicle is out of the recall warranty [150K mi and 10 years] No idea how much Ford will charge me for this repair. Or am I better off bringing the vehicle to a transmission shop[?] Any helpful ideas folks? I live in LA. Thanks.
You’re welcome and thanks for watching. I hopefully it was helpful and hopefully you were able to find a lead frame. They’ve been on back order for a while. Hope you have a great day like and subscribe.
You may still be able to warranty it. a Ford dealer near me said they might be able to make an exception on the 10 years if I was under 150,000 mi. Ford extended the warranty on these two 10 years 150,000 mi
Had this exact issue a few weeks ago then the P0706/0707 codes and it wouldn’t crank. Found a transmission mechanic who had a lead frame in stock, Ford is back ordered. Had the lead frame replaced yesterday, today after I picked it up, had the same OSS issue within the first 30 minutes of driving. Would that be expected for some reason on a brand new lead frame w/ oss sensor? Maybe a missed step in the install? Saying the new sensor is faulty seems too convenient.
I was not around to see a new lead frame unboxed or installed. It’s a fairly reputable local shop so I’d tend to trust them… exact same issue as your video, seems to happen in 5/6 gear. Goes away once the truck is turned off then on again. Any low hanging fruit on the wiring side? I’ll obviously take it back to the shop but for peace of mind could I run some pinpoint tests with an auto scanner?
Honestly, this sounds like either a faulty part(which could be the case) or it was in stock because it was actually just a replacement of the original designed Leadframe without the extra measures in place to stop this from happening (small foam insert that surrounds the solenoid connectors) If the speed sensor is truly faulty, then yes it can display symptoms of a faulty Leadframe. But if that foam insert is missing, then the small metal particles within the trans when driving is known to find it's way to those solenoid connectors and short them out.

I only replaced the parts shown
@@lakesautomotivediagnostics6509 thank you
@@kaimibaxter6677 you’re welcome
How much? Mine is doing same thing?
I’m not sure I don’t work with the numbers
Great video!! Well done! Thank you!
You’re welcome thanks for watching like and subscribe
Thanks for the video with all the information and feedback received. I do have a f150 2012 with the same code issues, do you recommend Dorman lead frame? I would like to know if the truck repaired still works well with the new lead frame? Thanks
I can’t really say I recommend Dorman, but it did work as it should, funny enough that guy stopped in about two weeks ago just to tell us that his truck got stolen and he got a new Dodge ram, so I at least know it was working good two weeks ago😂👍✌️ I believe it has been about a year
@@lakesautomotivediagnostics6509 funny story but I’m sorry for him.
Anyway, I really appreciate your support I just bought Dorman lead frame and tomorrow the mechanic will install it. Regards from Mexico!!
Just had my 2013 f150 in for
Shifting issues. They told me it had to be reprogrammed. Under recall. So while they had it. I suggested maybe change fluid and filter. They charged me like a grand for that alone. It was good for couple days and now the problem is back
Sorry to hear that. Do you have any transmission codes?
Brought my 2012 f150 fx2 today to the shop throwing the same code. Not wanting to shift out of certain gears and suddenly downshifting to 1st while driving. Speedo stops working as well. Told the shop what code it is throwing and told them about the lead frame. They had it all day just to message me what code it threw and said I need a new transmission.
Maybe get a second opinion
I guess one good thing about vehicles going full electric are no more transmission issues, and oil changes/filters. Plus way less finding part issues in the future.
Sounds plausible🔧😃🔧
Perfect timing! Just had those codes pop on my truck. Is the process any different for a 4x4?
I can’t think of any reason it would be different 😃
Awesome video. Just ordered all the parts on eBay and plan on doing this this weekend coming up. Any way you could list all the tools I’ll need (torque wrench, etc.)? Thanks!
Sorry, wouldn’t know off the top of my head
What code do you have?
If you don’t have a scanner, you can take it to AutoZone and have them scan it for you to see what codes you have
@@lakesautomotivediagnostics6509 Just got back from Autozone and they scanned it and the code is P0720 OSS Sensor Circuit.
2013 F150 6cyl Turbo.
how much was the fix total
Sorry, not sure I just work on them😃
How is the dorman part? Did the customer cone back? Or seems to be good?
He comes back in for oil changes. Still doing good.
How long would the replacement last
I would definitely consider it a permanent fix, but as you know any part can fail at any time.
Awesome video!!! Should I change the speed sensor as well?
The speed sensor is built into the lead frame
Where did buy buy the lead frame? I call my local ford dealer but they are on back order. They also said it needs to be programed. Did you have yours programed or does it need to be?
I did not program this one. I just cleared the codes. I’m not sure where they got the lead frame from.
I have a question, after changing the leadframe do you need to reprogram it like with forscan or you just need to change it and it will be working? Thanks for the video, I think it will not be so hard to do it you explain it very well
I did not have to do any programming
@@lakesautomotivediagnostics6509 ok good thank you!!
I found two videos for doing this exact job. But neither one of you say what to do if you're missing a transfer tube. I either have to finish this today or get my truck towed. I'm stressed AF
Only thing I know is try to make it to the dealer real quick to get one
Hey mine was also missing one wondering if this is normal for some truck. Seems like that valve is closed off.
@@brandonler5120 glad to hear it’s doing good
where did you buy the part, Ford dealer don't have them. 6 month back order minimum
It was a Dorman part , sorry I did not order the parts not 100% where they got it from but I did just look it up and seen Amazon has them
Is this difficult for a beginner to attempt or too fragile/hard for someone with not much experience?
It’s definitely doable. If you have some good common sense can follow instructions and have a little mechanical knowledge, but I don’t know if I would try it. If you have never had a valve body out. but I definitely wouldn’t trust it for someone else to do if they are inexperienced.
I don't need any equipment/computer/scanner for afterwards for clearing or programming do I?
@@escothemagnificent4399 just clear the codes
Maybe I should have tried it, but was worried it wouldn’t work for longer than a year.

It’s hard to say without looking at it, but did you see that he actually had a new lead frame.
What are your symptoms? It could also be a wiring harness issue.
@@davidb3294 my codes were PO720 and PO722 I did see a video with PO705. I think had a melted wire by the passenger side manifold.
My truck is doing the same thing. Thanks
Right on
Thank you for the video

My 05 was doing this but all I did was r&r the output shaft speed sensor.
In the 2012, the output shaft speed sensor is built into the lead frame
