Honestly the main thing that absolutely bugs me with this, in regards to what this does to her character, is that they're going to be so many people who think that _this_ is Clementine's character. It's not. Sure, Clementine isn't always happy-go-lucky. Mine certainly wasn't. But how she's written in this comic just doesn't read like her. At all. And I've seen reviews on Goodreads where people say they don't like her character, which is a real shame. :( Maybe someday I'll put more of my thoughts on this since the whole thing is…yeah, bad, but also interesting when analyzing the canonicity of it. Outside of a dumb lil essay I wrote on Tumblr but whatever. Lol.
Very true! I feel bad for everyone whose first impression of this character comes from the book. This version of Clem is designed to be extremely unlikeable. Not at all her true self. I don’t see how anyone new to the character could like her.
You know why Tillie Walden set the comic in Vermont? That is where she lives. No other reason except she lives in Vermont. I knew Amos was going to die the moment we found out he was Amish. The Amish represent sexual repression. Tillie obviously thinks Clem is sexually repressed b/c what type of teenager is not going to experiment with sex when there is no parental supervision. I kept expecting a flashback of a Carver rape scene at the ski lodge to explain Clem's sexual repression. But nothing!
Yes, I had a big laugh when I read that interview! Haha the whole plot was just an excuse to go to Vermont. Very silly, yes let’s go further north, where the winters will be even harder to survive. Honestly, mountains are a good setting that haven’t been on TWD so much, so not the worst idea there. Funny to see that the next book will be on an island at the same time Fear the Walking Dead is going to be doing its next season with a bunch of islands lol. Interesting theory about Amos! My standing theory is that she created him with the intention to make a likable counter to Clem that she can kill off later for easy emotional points (a solid, reliable strategy I don’t blame her for using lol). But the repression angle is an interesting perspective. He does represent innocence, almost certainly, so it could track.
@@SHOOKEARTHMEDIA I wonder if there is a connection between the type of writers Skybound is hiring and the type of writers they have on Fear the Walking Dead?

Bro what have they done with Clem, it doesn't make any sense, the writer hasn't even played the games, what a shame how these shitty canon books can do, they couldn't have left it with the end of season 4, what sense does it make that clem abandon AJ who has fought so much for him, no sense, also how many books are they going to release? I just hope that if one day, if it happens that they continue with the videogames, please don't follow the story of this shitty book. well......I just hope they cancel them or it's because the writer doesn't see that we didn't like shit with what she does with the character of clem. How angry I am right now, with how well they had closed the end of the saga and they take this out...... speechless.
It’s so bad! The author’s 100% not a fan. She picked the worst possible outcome for such a legendary character. Abandoning AJ is unforgivable, and I hope that future installments ignore or retcon these books completely. There are supposed to be 3 books, unfortunately.
@@SHOOKEARTHMEDIAHonestly, the twd saga is not ready to pass it on as a comic, we choose our own story, and I think that is why the writer is forced to leave school and AJ, but I don't know who the hell thought it was a good idea to get a comic, even the season itself says so, final season, that's where all the real developers who are talltale end wanted it to end that way, so what need do they have to remove it, none, out of pure greed, it's simply not the same company or the developer of the original games so you can call this a FanFiction, if they really wanted to continue the saga they would have released a 5 episode, not a fucking comic.
I think a comic could’ve been fine. They could’ve just had the school get attacked and Clem and AJ hit the road. The usual way TWD works. Or they could’ve picked which choices were canon and move on from there. But yeah, at this point, I would’ve rather the final season stayed final. But Kirkman knows the value of the character, so he wasn’t gonna let it sit there. A comic’s way cheaper to produce, and the games had diminishing returns, so that’s why they went for the comic. Doubt they’ll make a new game, unfortunately, tbh.
@@SHOOKEARTHMEDIAIf Kirkman knows the value of the character as he has allowed this comic to go on sale, I can understand why he leaves school because of the fact that in a comic you cannot adapt all the endings of the game because according to the player's decisions he lives some people or not, but abandoning AJ, the worst thing they could do was that, it was like an excuse to get rid of him, the more I think about it the less sense it makes, leaving AJ for whom he has fought so hard because he is not "unhappy" It is appropriate for the character to do that, I just hope that they either change the course of the comic or cancel it, which I think would do us a favor
I have yet to have anyone defending it in the comments section lol. The only way you could like it is if you didn’t know who Clementine was prior to reading. But even then, it’s a boring, meandering story by any metric.
Heck, there's a new Telltale - why not them? But I don't think there will be anyone buying rights from Kirkman. I certainly wouldn't sell it off, if I was him lol. Hopefully, he cancels this comic series and licenses the games out again!
Fair enough! Kenny's a popular character, and I do like him as well. I don't fully blame him for what he went through. But good to see that you agree! Thanks for watching, so I don't feel like I'm crazy haha.
I hate this book with a passion why they make clementine a detached lesbian who abandons her adopted son and potential relationships with louis or violet
Could have an epic game or DLC of the other characters like Javi or AJ as the main character and Clem as a side character. Or get this, Melissa Hutchison would come back and do the voice of Clementine in an animated Netflix or Amazon Prime mini-series that Skybound could partner with and do an art style similar to Netflix's Arcane but no, had to go with the stupid f*cking comic books. And by the way, even Melissa Hutchison who voiced Clementine in all four games even liked DomtheBomb's posts on Twitter of his thoughts after reading Book One. So Melissa knows how bad they ruined her character. or Skybound could have chosen the other graphic novelist who played the games too, with better art style but Skybound went with Tillie.

I just recently finished playing through the games for the first time and I've watched Clem grow into a responsible, kind-hearted, caring mother and friend, only for this sad excuse of a story to make her abandon AJ. This completely goes against who she is. She loves this little guy, and she's put her life on the line for his countless times. And all of a sudden she's cold and rude? The explanations they give are ass - not that I think anything can justify her leaving AJ. She didn't just leave AJ, she left her home. The entire idea of season 4 was her finding a home she felt happy in. So season 4 is now redundant to these books. And not only that but they overused the hell out of Lee, probably to farm nostalgia. If Lee were here he'd be incredibly disappointed in Clem. The fact that this is canon bothers me. I will until the day I die pretend this is a crappy fanfic.
You’re absolutely correct! This shame of a book goes against everything the writers at Telltale were working toward. This book is fanfiction written by someone who clearly resents the character and wanted to shoehorn in her own depression as a self-insert, with no care for the story that came before.
This book has no black nuances tille wouldn't understand with Clementine cause Clementine is a lachkey kid black girl having have to grow up real fast in the apocalypse being in a situation of almost eating human leg meat seeing her first crush Duck she use to pick on and play with slowly die in the camper in katyas arms from being bitten and shot by either kenny or Lee being kidnapped by the stranger leaving food and supplys in the station wagon loosing a latino girl her age that would've been her friend to the zombies why didnt skybound get a black female fan and writter to write clementine and Aj Why would clementine be a lesbian lusting after a self insert white girl or violet when she has been heterosexual for most the games and why would she abandon her adoptive son AJ when she clearly had black parental role models in her life such as her dad Ed her mother Diana, her adoptive father figure and protector Lee Everett, a new mother figure in Christa who she spent time with after Lee and Omid died and another maternal figure with Rebecca and Alvin sr. Who she took care of their child idk why she would abandon louis either.
My mom was telling me that authors are contractually obligated by publishers to write a certain amount of those quotes at the beginning of books per year, so I think it’s fair to speculate that Image paid the authors to write them.
@@themysteryman9227 lol yeah it makes sense because Kirkman’s an executive at Image as well as Skybound. Don’t think he’d release a book without them unless something changed. To be fair to Image, they’re a non-profit company that only does creator-owned books, so they don’t do any editorial control. They don’t own IP or pay the budget for your book, they just distribute it for the creator
Complete and absolute rubbish, checked out a search or so and they are parading it around like "Oh look at the representation in this teen apocalypse comic." blurgh Ps. Everything could've been much better if they just made a REAL reason for Clem to leave and AJ either gets separated(Might be a copy of Frontier but it works) or just COMES WITH HER.
True, anyone giving this comic credit for “representation” loses all credibility in the conversation of this book. This is a pre-established character whose identity is pre-determined. The book didn’t invent anything in that regard. Not to mention The Walking Dead in general, which has characters of all races and sexualities. “Representation” doesn’t make something inherently good or bad. Anyone using that argument is grasping at straws and picking the most superficial characteristics to defend the book. And true, no one would have an issue if they got separated. But she purposefully abandoned someone who relies on her emotionally for no reason at all. Shameful.
@@Jh44931 Sorry to hear that, yeah it was disappointing. The worst part was in Skybound X #1, which is the prequel. Clem abandons AJ while he’s asleep (with a smile on her face). AJ catches up to her, and she says she needs to leave because she’s not happy. Breaking her promise to never leave and being selfish and horrible to AJ. I just hope that the end of part 3 (2 more books with this author), she goes back to AJ, and we can forget this ever happened lol.
Ok so I just forced myself to look at my own copy. I can only guess the 'noise' she made was "Oh shit" or whatever she says while looking to her trousers. At the crotch you can see it's dark, so I'm guessing she's bled through her underwear and trousers. This is something I really don't understand, when you start on day 1 it doesn't pour out, you get about a spoonful of blood maybe less and this is coming from someone who's super heavy on day one and two, but yeah it doesn't come out full force like that it takes a while, almost half a day for it to really flood. They always do that in media it's really dumb. Plus Tillie being a woman herself, I don't even know if she's had her periods before, she doesn't even know Clem so yeah wouldn't put it past her. Clem should by now have felt her period start, I usually get a slight cramping and then you litterally feel blood slip out, how she didn't is just mindblowing. I just can't read it, I feel I'm losing brain cells just looking at it. The art makes my eyes bleed and like I said I think my brain is melting with the plot. I don't know how Tillie rushed through the games? Playing for the first time, how? Just how can you? You have to find and click on most of everything to proceed forward. I really don't get it, I mean I've played them over and over again, but still forget where I'm going or what I'm doing. Tillie needs to explain to me how the hell she speedrun these games and picked out some of the worst parts. Seriously this is fucking cringe. Baby to AJ, what!? Leave him behind, don't like any of the characters. Still don't like how s4 ended, even if AJ did cut her leg off, she would have died of shock or got an infection you can't just burn the infection away (and I don't mean the zombie bite I mean infection from having the open wound). Should never have kept Minnie alive, just stupid imo. Thought I'd come back and redo my comment altogether. Again just to add I will only ever name my mobile, lol.
Yeah that makes sense. I think you figured it out! I can’t stand to look through the book again haha. Yeah, it’s clear the author doesn’t love the character/games like we do and just wants to do her own thing. Clem deserved better lol. As far as the end of s4, people in the middle ages would survive amputation every now and again. Yes, infection/shock are likely, but it’s not impossible. Also, there’s precedent for it in The Walking Dead universe with Dale in the comics (Hershel in the show), so you’ll have to take that up with Robert Kirkman lol. Considering they’re writing an established universe, I wouldn’t hold that on Telltale. They wanted a happy ending, but it needs to have a cost.
@@WhatBigClawsYouHave don’t feel bad, your criticism is understandable/valid, especially if you haven’t seen other Walking Dead content. Yeah, AJ doing that is a sad thought, to be sure. I wouldn’t say it ruined the games but it ruined the trilogy no matter how good the next two books are
I agree, honestly. The games still exist how they were. Just was using a bit of the old hyperbole for the thumbnail and headline lol.
Exactly this is just non-cannon bull shit or at least to the fans

@@SHOOKEARTHMEDIA agreed
It really makes my blood boil that this waste of paper is considered canon and official.
bro thanks for making this video so we don't have to read the comics ourselves, I didn't expect it to be *this* trash
Maybe someday I'll put more of my thoughts on this since the whole thing is…yeah, bad, but also interesting when analyzing the canonicity of it.
@@72Worker both are mediocre writers that don’t seem to care much about source material, so they have that in common lol. Is it bad that I’d say Fear is better? I’ll take relentlessly stupid over boring any day haha
@@SHOOKEARTHMEDIA That is the power of writing guilds. They take the untalented and raise them up in status.
@@72Worker yeah they treat you as if you’re talented as long as you’ve been there long enough! Lol
Does anyone even actually like that comic? It's hot garbage and I definitely don't consider it cannon.
I have yet to have anyone defending it in the comments section lol. The only way you could like it is if you didn’t know who Clementine was prior to reading. But even then, it’s a boring, meandering story by any metric.
And I hereby announce this bullshit of a comic book... A fanfic!
Exactly, except the writer clearly is not a fan! Haha
I would rather have a less popular game company who has good game stories buy the twdg from skybound and create something better than this!
Heck, there's a new Telltale - why not them? But I don't think there will be anyone buying rights from Kirkman. I certainly wouldn't sell it off, if I was him lol. Hopefully, he cancels this comic series and licenses the games out again!
hard disagree with your opinion of Kenny, but otherwise I'm all on board with these criticisms (and the few compliments lmao)
Fair enough! Kenny's a popular character, and I do like him as well. I don't fully blame him for what he went through. But good to see that you agree! Thanks for watching, so I don't feel like I'm crazy haha.
Worst Comic Ever + One of the BEST characters ever?
Thanks, but I'll go that way, the non canon way.
I know this character had so much potential!!! Melissa is the true victim in this - her character deserves better
@@SHOOKEARTHMEDIA Did you see the other work from another girl who was in the potential running to make the new comic books, that Skybound turned her down for some odd reason, their thoughts she was too cartoony for Clementine. Her artwork had a better representation of Clem from the video games. The other artist is named Zoe Thorogood. Her artwork is so much better than Tillie's and a lot cleaner. And Zoe Thorogood is a visual artist on other works.
the one on the left is Zoe Thorogood art work of Clem and the one on the right is Tillie's artwork of Clem.

@@CKProductions-07 wow that does look better! It’s an improvement, for sure
And I know that clementine only left bc the way the school stands with the characters is player based but they could’ve come up with a better excuse
Exactly! The whole point was to not deal with determinant choices. But they could’ve had anything happen - an attack at the school, etc.
@@SHOOKEARTHMEDIA thats what I'm saying...make there be an attack and her and AJ escaped together. I'd almost rather even had him die in the attack than what they chose to do
@@k.v.u.2 I know right? It would’ve been soooo easy to get them on the road in the story with the abandonment part
This is the jane version of clementine
True! Clem and Jane switched bodies after season 4 lol
Who she took care of their child idk why she would abandon louis either.
who do you think paid these reviewers?
My mom was telling me that authors are contractually obligated by publishers to write a certain amount of those quotes at the beginning of books per year, so I think it’s fair to speculate that Image paid the authors to write them.
@History Lover I checked the book, and Image is the distributor actually. So I was right the first time lol
@@SHOOKEARTHMEDIA (sigh) dough.
Complete and absolute rubbish, checked out a search or so and they are parading it around like "Oh look at the representation in this teen apocalypse comic." blurgh
Ps.
Shameful.
I love clementine book 1 and 2 and 3 ❤
It’s almost like she didn’t know anything about clem
True! It’s a totally different character, as far as I’m concerned.
@@SHOOKEARTHMEDIA yeah I got the book for Christmas I was so excited but ended up disappointed I really hope she can pull it back in the next issues
@@SHOOKEARTHMEDIA the author should get help from people who wrote clems character so they can try and fix it lol
@@Jh44931 that would be nice!
i am reading fan fiction that way better
I’m sure it’s a huge improvement! No matter what it is, at least there’s an actual fan writing it.
Glad I could help clear it up and appreciate Clem! Hopefully, we’ll get another game or someone else to fix Clem’s story. But if not, I’m glad to have the happy memory of the s4 ending.
umm so my 8 year old is reading this at school! 😳 I found this out today 😮
