Thank you very much for teaching this so clearly! It’s so cold in the winter and I wanted a warm hat to wear inside…. but the store-bought ones were always way to long for me! I was able to do this in just a relaxing afternoon! Thank you! I used the same loom as you and did 22 rows with the Bernat super bulky 6 polyester blanket yarn. I’m a 63 year old Grammy and the hat fit to cover the very top of my ears….. just what I wanted. It’s so comfortable! Thank you!😀
I loved this video. Thanks so much. I watched it over and over as I get interrupted and I don't learn very fast. Appreciate it so much. Your voice is lovely.
Thank you very much for this very well explained tutorial. I just got my loom kit today and spent many hours watching tutorials. I am definitely using this one. I am confident that with this video i will be successful in making my first hat.
Cant thank you enough for this video . I’ve made 8 hats so far using your instructions. I make those hats to donate and the quality looks great. Your video is easy to follow and instructions are so clear . Do you have a video on how you did your pompom? It’s lovely 😊
Thank you so much we got a loom to try to make a hat like this with our granddaughter and we’re totally confused by the directions but I watched your video and within 20 minutes I’ve got about 6 inches down… Thank you so much!
Question: How do you know what Loom to use for what. Your tutorial was AWESOME. Mom and I are learning to do it. Im using the small blue one so I can imagine it is for a small child, but still fun to do something creative.
Hi, I am new to knitting. I followed this tutorial and I think I did it right...but there is a string from slip knot to the starting row...how do I detach this without unraveling 😅
That's a pretty hat. You shouldn't hand remove the last loops off and then use the hook to hook them. If you dropped the loop, the loop could retract back into your knitting. Hook the last loops as you cast-off. Over the years, I have made dozens of hats like yours in different sizes, different mixtures of yarn; and embellished them with either pom poms, jewelry, or appliqués and gave them all to charity. Unfortunately hours and hours of knitting at times caused pain in my hands being over-worked and my thumbs went crooked looping the yarn over the ring dozens and dozens of times. I had to quite using the circular yarn rings.
Melanie has passed, dear. There's several ways to bind off as it all depends on your skill level or arthritis level....This is just 1 way.... Melanie's utube Channel & blog are amazing too. BTW Mel's Beanies went viral with over 2 MILLION views years & years okay ❤
Hello! I am trying to make this now, but is it suppose to always get back to the same spot or is it suppose to get one less every round, to the right? Cause right now it´s 6 pegs from the start peg.
Thanks for the video, I tried this same pattern but for some reason I got a large holes throughout the hat where the first and last peg… and as I started a new hat I noticed there was no yarn connection between the first and last peg… because you only wrap twice around each peg… so every time I got back to the last peg there was no connecting yarn between peg first and last peg… any suggestions? Maybe using a chunky yarn you may not notice it??

The largest loom is for teen to adult size. The medium ones are for toddlers to middle school size.

Excellent tutorial, thank you!
so good. how does one figure out which loom size (# of pegs) will fit their head? thanks.
The smallest ring is baby size, the medium one is for toddler to middle school size and the largest is for teen to adult.
Out of curiosity, what's the brand of these looms? I'm having trouble finding a 30-peg without the boye-style hooked pegs.
Can you make a Scarf as well?
Yes. Just continue and make a long tube then gather the ends together. This way you can also use a thinner yarn if you wish.
do you have a pattern for the pompom
how do you know the size for a 11 yr old and a 8 yr old child and what way do you have to go around left or right or does it make a difference??
It doesn't matter so long as you keep going the same way. I go in the opposite direction.
how do you do the pom pom?
What type of yarn are you using?
Thanks for the video, I tried this same pattern but for some reason I got a large holes throughout the hat where the first and last peg… and as I started a new hat I noticed there was no yarn connection between the first and last peg… because you only wrap twice around each peg… so every time I got back to the last peg there was no connecting yarn between peg first and last peg… any suggestions? You just go round and round in a circle. You only have to worry about the start and finish of a row when you start and cast off.
What if you don't have a puff for the top?
You don't have to put a puff on top if you don't want to, you can also make one with yarn.
🐶
If you don't have a pom pom, you can add a piece of jewelry to the hat or stitch on an appliqué to decorate it.
