  • Hi everyone, in today’s video I’ll show you how to sublimate onto glass, it's beautiful and easy. Here are a few of the supplies you'll need: Glass, Oracal 651 Vinyl, RapidTac, a sublimation print, and the usual sublimation equipment. I'll demonstrate this technique on a Dollar Tree glass cutting board and a square beveled edge glass plate.

    Great demo, many thanks! I am fascinated by this sublimation process. So much I can do - wood, stones, metal, glass, T shirts, etc. You explained it very well, and your voice is so soothing, I could listen all day. Thank you for no music!!!
    Question: These printers are pricey. Any cheaper printers for same function?
    Tip: Don't buy Goo Gone. Its like Acetone. It mars plastic by making it opaque. It is very pricey. Instead buy cheap Mineral
    Spirits or Paint Thinner. This removes all gummy tape residues, plastic price tag gum, and any gummy residue left behind when you remove food labels from glass jars. All gone fast. Cloth or cotton ball + paint thinner, not paper towel. Use a paper towel and alcohol to remove paint thinner greasiness, then soap and water and voila! Sparkling item free of gummy grease.
    Tip: If anyone wants to drill holes in glass it is easy. Do it before sublimation. Buy a diamond drill bit that is for making holes so will look like a hole saw. Use your drill. Start at an angle so bit does not skip. Spray water during and before drilling,. In 5 seconds, you have a smooth hole thru glass or ceramic. Nice for making planters out of ceramic bowls too.

    These are beautiful! You have a great eye for photography. I have a stack of these trivets that I can’t wIt to make some with my grand babies on them for my kids. I’ve seen where others have made these with ceramic tiles and want to try that as well. I’m very new to sublimation but I can see where it can be very fun to work with. Thanks for the tutorial.

    you do not need special spray a bottle of water with a few drops of dish soap spray the surface apply slide around and when its placed using a credit card/scraper to push all the water out and bubbles leave it to dry a little and does same thing but using vinyl for 12 years

      @@sojo_dfunnytalker Yes, you can purchase the Oracle 651 from Amazon, I listed the link in the description below the video. Also, some craft stores offer it in 12" x 12" squares, just make sure it's Oracle 651 and not regular vinyl. As far as the glass goes I don't have a source for the one I used as it was something I had in my craft stash. Hope this helps.

    I really liked your very informative sstep by step video, know I know what I did wrong on my previous attempts. Have you done one using Cricut Infusiable Ink sheets? I do not have sublimination products so I like using the infusible ink sheets to decorate. I am still very new to the process.

      Glad you enjoyed the video. I think I saw in another comment that this does not work with the Cricut Infusible ink. The products I used in the video are the best for the process. I have both of these projects in my home and they are holding up well. Best of luck in your future projects.

      But the glass that you can already sub on is way more expensive then this way. But you can't just sub on just glass never works that way. You can use lamaite sheet too but... on glass that hard to do

    You said "trivet" at the end - can these Dollar Tree glass pieces be used as an actual trivet - straight from the oven or stove top??? That'd be nice!

    • @PoppyHillDesigns
      @PoppyHillDesigns  13 дней назад

      Unfortunately no, as this would activate the sublimation ink and destroy the image.

    Is this ok to use as a cutting board after? Or just a trivet for hot pans/dishes?

    • @PoppyHillDesigns
      @PoppyHillDesigns  Год назад

      My personl preference would be to use it as decrative only. However, since the image is on the back you could use it as a cutting board and wipe clean with a cloth. I wouldn't recommend placing anyting hot on it as it may reactivate the sublimation ink and alter the image.

    So, the printed image actually "bleeds" through the white vinyl? I often think of vinyl as being "waterproof" and not permeable.

    • @PoppyHillDesigns
      @PoppyHillDesigns  Год назад

      When heated to the correct temperature sublimation ink turns into a gas, this chemical reactions allows the ink to be absorbed by the vinyl.
