Today I take a walk in the Chateau Gardens and get the great Idea to make a cake from real Roses. Watch to see how it turns out.

My name is Michael Petherick and I live with my family at Chateau de la Basmaignee in north west France.
My brother and his fiancé bought this building with some inheritance money three years ago and we are slowly restoring it to live in, and run as a business.
It’s always a financial struggle to keep the place going and we have to work hard to keep our heads above water, but we love it and wouldn’t have It any other way.
When they knew that they were buying the château, my brother asked me if I would like to move over and take part in their new adventure... so I packed my bags, gave up my life in England and moved here to help bring this place back to life.
We do all the renovations ourselves including construction, decorating and collecting antique furniture that we buy cheaply to restore. Our goal is to fill the château with beauty and life as it once was.
I have a passion for history, art and all things old.
These videos are a series of stories about my life and experiences living in a French castle.
We film and edit everything ourselves.
I’ll be showing all aspects of life here, from renovation and DIY, to crafts and baking, art, daily life and a bit of fun thrown in for good measure. There’s much more to see and our journey is still just beginning.

Sometimes knowing what to do is a bit different from having experience doing it. He did do a great job though. The cake was gorgeous! Maybe he will find some cake tins at the thrift shop on his next visit there. Those roses are lovely!

Serious question: how exactly do I find a husband who knows how to make rosewater AND sand a staircase AND make curtains AND cleans up pidgeon poop? asking for a friend.

wntrwhte my straight husband can sew, bake, and is currently renovating an old house for us. He can't play an instrument, but he can dance and sing. 😊

My suspicions are that Michael has an extremely high I.Q., and that he s easily bored. He has been blessed with loving parents, with grandparents who knew what a precious gift they had, they raised him properly so that he would survive, and with enveloped him with a great deal of love.
Michael is an amazingly gifted person. He has discovered his element! And he seems like he was raised to be who he is with a loving family. What a huge blessing.
He could sit and read a book quietly to himself and I would still watch him. He's very relaxed in front of the camera and has a very personable and down to Earth demeanor. Please continue to be you and just be real and this whole YT gig will be a piece of cake for you!

This recipe is what we call a Pound Cake in the US. . Well, we mix it a little differently but I’m sure yours is delicious.

From one amateur Baker to another if you wrap the outside of your cake tin in a wet towel while you bake your cake it stops the cake edges from over cooking and forming a crust, also help you get a more even rise to your cake. 💕 your rose 🌹 cake!!!

I absolutely love the music he adds to some of his videos, especially the ones out around the grounds and in the woods. I sometimes think he may have composed some of it himself as he plays the piano with such feeling.

This would be a great sell point for the guests at the Chateau. They could have the option of purchasing an "Afternoon tea" package that includes the signature Rose Cake using fresh roses from the gardens, an assortment of other baked treats, bottle of sparkling/wine or brewed tea/coffee in a basket that they can take into the grounds and have an afternoon picnic.
We used to do something similar at the hotel i worked at in Sydney, Australia. The package also came with a small strong cardboard collapsible 3-tiered cake stand that they could set up. They paid for the package, it was delivered to their room and they could take it out to the Botanical gardens, the harbour, anywhere.
When you are allowed to open up to guests again, this could be a great little extra for them.
It’s like someone combined all my interests and favorite things into one channel...I wish I could find other 20 somethings that share my interests like Michael! - Midwest, USA 🇺🇸
