Loved the plans so interesting - I have similar the original plans to my house from 1904 not so many as the chateau obviously but a great thing to have I’ve often thought of framing mine ! ...... as a fellow aga Rayburn fan your cottage will be roasting once it’s in full flight but a tip remember what you put in the warming oven lol ! One Xmas we had a horrid smell for weeks and couldn’t find out where it was coming from till next time we used the Rayburn warming oven and hubby had left a bowl of sprouts in there and forgotten phew !😅
Hints from experience. Have the plans digitized ASAP. Make sure when you touch the old paper you wear cotton museum gloves. I know you don’t se damage, but every tiny bit of oil, soap residue, lotion, hair products transfers to the paper every-time you touch the paper. Nothing will happen now, but in years to come, even a small amount can be catastrophic. If that’s not practical consider washing and drying your hands immediately before touching the paper. If you haven’t already (it looks is like you may already have) get slip sheets of acid free paper. Good luck, those are priceless. Thank you for the lovely show.
Thank God for Dad. He's always hard at work, no matter how strenuous the task is. Even tackling them by himself. A very hard worker indeed. No job to big or to small, super dad can do it all!
Love those old architectural drawings! You should have those scanned and saved as a digital file, then work with a conservator on proper storage of the originals. They are truly a work of art and a treasure.
You should have them put in a frame that designed for old documents. The I seen this idea in a lot of the old scottish castles I visited. They also added old samples of wallpaper and things. I think this would be an amazing idea for your family
They should be handled very carefully without putting fingers all over them as these papers are heritage documents. Surely some should be framed and the rest filed professionally. I am cringing watching how they are being handled this time. All the best with your endeavours as I am enjoying watching all the progress, and admiring the work
@@paranihiaanaru4414 Yes! A little cringe-worthy watching fingers touching beautiful archival plans. But then this is a family that loves and keeps alive the history. No doubt they will preserve.
Those plans were REALLY interesting and as you say, should be kept somewhere safe after copies have been taken - perhaps you could get a safety deposit box at the bank? Then if e.g. a fire occurred, a copy would be at another place and available for rebuilding works. Good that at long last the cottage is progressing. Your poor dad meantime, is trying to do their cottage up too!
I love the brass lamps for the cottage better than the copper ones! The big copper ones would be perfect in a large room like the basement kitchen, so make sure Billy DOES earmark them for that!
One of my favorite episodes so far. Im just appreciating all the craftsmanship and all these wonderful handmade drawings. Its just incredible the beauty that is achievable with a lot of work.

My neighbor, who in now deceased, taught me a lot about oak. My electrician drilled through my hall floors several times. My neighbor who would be 108 if still alive, told me to cut a green branch about the same size off my live oak tree. Strip bark off, and hammer in like a peg, with glue. It will swell while drying. Then sand and seal. My electrician was so apologetic, and appreciative to know the repair was that easy. Honestly, I can't locate the repairs now. My floors are 1909. I have to buy historic wood at $2 per foot to get correct size long leaf pine. Instead of paying for the expensive replacement wood, which I have done, at great effort to find historic wood, then I find I am only to be disappointed with poor results. The historic wood was in poor shape, and worker not skilled enough to install properly. The epoxy solution dries over night, and blends in fairly well. It is visually pleasing. It's sacrilege and literally stupid as it devalues, nothing worse than going into a lovely old pub that's been "modernised".

Michael, SUGGESTION -- and please consider this for the historical importance -- Make photo copies AND digital copies of all of the papers in that portfolio. Store at least one set of the photo copies in double plastic wrapped bags to preserve them. Time to visit the Emmaus, says Stephanie. Or the Brocante as soon as there open lol. I’m very intrigued with the AGA transformation! I absolutely love your Dad! He can do anything! Your so lucky to have him, his expertise and company. It’s a family build and wonderful. Wow, protect that paper at all costs. I’d call a museum and ask what you can do to keep them safe. I’d immediately suggest gloves 🧤 and I believe acetate paper. Good luck and congrats on such an incredible gift.
such a treasure trove of original drawings of the chateau! as an architect, designer and draftsman with over 40 years of experience i can attest how raw those fragile documents can be. if you can you should get them digitized for future reference, then they could be cataloged, organized and reproduced as necessary. if you frame any of them make sure it's with acid free matting and uv protecting glass to help prevent further deterioration/fading.
I would have these plan sheets copied and also digitalized in a PDF format so you could have a working copy on hand as well as a copy for your computer and be able to print them off anytime you wanted with the right printer. That way you wouldn't have to be handling these fragile plan sheets. So cool to see! Love architect drawings of old buildings! Thanks for the video! Cheers from Alaska!

Exactly my thoughts!
Put them in acid free folders or boards and put them in a fire proof safe if available.
All hand drawn!
Those drawings are so precious! Please treat them with respect.

How lucky to have the old plans, keep them safe , maybe you can copy some and print and frame them around the chateau. Thanks for sharing
Best wishes from lockdown in Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
It is Going To Be Lovely And Warm In The Cottage it Will Be Great In The Winter And Cooking Lovely Food x
