    The whole narrative that Arsenal are the English Atleti is so overplayed. Arsenal were bopping the ball around that first half without their two top creative midfielders in Odegaard and Merino. The thing is though: on Sunday Arsenal won against City while they were 11 vs 11. Arsenal won 2:1 and didn’t play defensively. And City looked bad when they conceded both goals. City was the better team for the first 15 to 20 minutes but after that they were equal. And City had no answer to win against a 10 men Arsenal in their own stadium. Because they aren't able to bully Arsenal anymore. Just like boxing. If AJ went into the rematch against Ruiz with the same gung ho, toe to toe, method, the result would have been the same as the first fight. Arsenal would leak 4/5 goals and get a pat on the back for losing while playing nice Arteta ball. Now imagine Ruiz getting mad and calling AJ a coward for not using the same tactics as the first fight when the head to head result changed. Rivals, bar Liverpool, also hate the fact that Arsenal are challenging and aren't City's whipping boys anymore. This is why you'll ALWAYS see them jumping in to defend, side with and celebrate the last 2 times City beat Arsenal to the title. Bar Liverpool, you would think the rest had all beaten this current Pep City team to a title. They also hate how Arsenal not being able to beat a top 6 club has ended, with none of them taking a W against Arsenal in over a year. Utd fans will probably stop routing for City when they see their league title record under threat. Don't say it's impossible. City winning the treble seemed impossible and then it happened. You've seen how quickly the 12 years flown by since Fergie last won UTD the league, just like Arsenal have seen the last 20 years fly by. 12 years is how much time City need to reach 18 league titles and it WILL happen if they're allowed to continue dominating the league. Will you still be routing for them when they have 18 or 19 league titles?

  • @snaggiz
    @snaggiz Месяц назад +10

    I think City don’t like losing control over games and especially not against teams that are comparable to them. Let me explain:
    City are a fantastic possession based team. They’ve got some vulnerabilities but you need a very good team to be able to exploit it. Arsenal seem to know how, which is rare.
    They’re used to teams not fighting for possession with them. What they’re not used to is have a team that also has the CAPACITY to dominate games like they do, but that also can dig in and make the game scrappy, high paced and physical. So it’s obviously frustrating when their usual tactics don’t work nearly as well and they then get forced out of their comfort zone.
    I think there’s some element inside the City camp that says: “Nobody should be able do that to us, but Arsenal did and it hurts.” That’s where the anger comes in. They are getting challenged by a team that doesn’t just open up and play rock and roll football. They play against a high quality team that is pragmatic, calculated and I think to some degree, has City all figured out. I could be wrong but I think this is why they are frustrated.
    Personally, I like the rivalry to be this way. They can hate us for all I care. The more those City players are in their feelings about us, the easier it’ll be to exploit them. Liverpools “rivalry” with City was too respectful. It felt fake. But I feel when Arsenal and City line up, these teams really don’t like each other for any reason.

    • @juneflowers5056
      @juneflowers5056 Месяц назад +2

      Underrated comment- completely agree. I was slightly annoyed because I felt City respected Liverpool and they didn't respect us but I could also see why so I was very happy that we let them have it in the first half. I think after the anger has subsided and if we bring that same first half energy for 90 minutes 11v11 at the Emirates, they will have no choice but to respect us but more importantly, we have to win the game and the title for it to become a proper rivalry unlike the love-in at Citypool. Also, the difference between us and Liverpool is that we were until recently a banter club and Jover and Mikel's previous connection to City not to mention the ex City players. I would have been far more confident if Odegaard and Merino had not got injured.

    • @sfb4144
      @sfb4144 Месяц назад +1

      @@juneflowers5056 I don't get where this idea that City vs Liverpool was a lovey-dovey rivalry comes from... It's really not that way, just players behave themselves much more in the modern games - you see it with most big derbies nowadays, it's way less intense than in the past, but City v Arsenal is just an outlier, and it's only happened after the game last week, out of blue really. City vs Liverpool just had Pep and Klopp really respecting each other, but there was still a massive rivalry between the players. I remember Salah and Bernardo, Fabinho and Rodri, all of Trent's comments etc. there was loads of rivalry but they've just adapted to modern football behavioural standards. Again, the City v Arsenal game last week is a particularly passionate and fierce outlier; I think Haaland was just really rattled up for whatever reason and his behaviour was condemnable and that just sparked a nasty atmosphere.

    • @juneflowers5056
      @juneflowers5056 Месяц назад

      @sfb4144 Fair enough, I suppose I have watched too many clipped up videos of Pep and players laughing and joking with Klopp and players. I am not saying a rivalry wasn't there, just that it seemed quite friendly for a rivalry. Personally, I prefer what you had with Liverpool because it was nice to see - that's the kind of rivalry I would have liked because I am not a big fan of it getting out of hand and players going for each other. I thought Haaland was very disrespectful, dish it out to players, but it completely lacked class going for the manager.

    • @sfb4144
      @sfb4144 Месяц назад

      @@juneflowers5056 nah, your opinion is valid, I just incline to disagree on the specifics... You're spot-on that it seems quite friendly for a rivalry, but in my opinion that's not inherent to the rivalry, but rather to the fact that modern football doesn't have the battles of Roy Keane and Vieira, or players as violent as Vidic/Terry/Joey Barton/Martin Skrtel/japp stam/Ibrahimovic/rooney etc. And I completely agree on the fact that less physically-intense rivalries are much better by avoiding toxicity and them getting out of hand. Having a competitive spirit and a sense of rivalry shows passion, commitment, emotion and it's also just simply entertaining, but it can easily escalate and get out of hand which is what's happened with city and arsenal now

This is common knowledge. City in truth have always wanted to be a big club. Arsenal is an institution in English Football. They hated being called out by one of the very clubs they wanted to be. On the players playing to much, this is really a player, national team and club problem and not a "football" problem. This affects 1% of professional footballers, players like Rodri, Saka, Salah etc. No one in Southampton or Wolverhampton is playing that many games, it's the elite of the elite and it comes down to clubs and national teams overplaying them. The solution therefore are with the clubs, national teams and players themselves, demand you be rested more, clubs take better care of your star players and rest them same goes for national teams.
    I'm not saying Rodri is wrong, I'm just saying the situation mostly apply to him and a few other players across the globe and that it's not a "footballing" problem, it's a problem that comes with being elite and competing for every title there is on all fronts at the same time. Clubs want to play as many games as possible, because it means they are doing good, getting far into all the cups and tournament but they need to protect their assets aka the players more.

    I think the reason people are on to Arsenal and not other people who park the bus because Arteta developed into this. He started at Arsenal with free flowing footy, then continued that into 22/23. They came up short playing like that, so the next year he made his defense a little bit better. This year he' reached a new level of defensive intensity and its like every big game Arsenal has, Mikel brings out the low block. Im not saying there is a problem with it, I just think the only reason they catch slack for it is because of how quickly Mikel developed into this.

They know they are the best team in the world and they, after taking the lead, had to come from behind on their own turf, against 10 men but fortune. They know they huffed and puffed and they realized the season will be long and harder than anticipated. It’s obvious you two don’t really have any bias in favour of either team and yet all the Arsenal fans in the comments sound so offended by everything you’ve said 😭

    WHY DO Y'ALL KEEP SAYING THIS "ARSENAL FANS WOULD TAKE A DRAW" SHYTE????? UNNACCEPTABLE. ANYONE TRYNA TAKE A DRAW AT THIS STAGE OF ARSENAL'S DEVELOPMENT NEEDS TO GO BACK TO 2022.

    I disagree with the point that arsenal haven't got over the hump the knocked city out of the fa cup. I think it's more that they are seeing Arsenal as a threat and recency bias from the city players

    City have now been used to walking allover every team in the Country, the haven't been challenged for the League title and haven't been pushed to the Limit by any Team in Games for a While but now Arsenal during that Game got them all rattled, the Formula wasn't working especially against 10men, who they usually destroyed and it was too much mentally

    The difference in attitudes to Liverpool compared to Arsenal by City players stems from the fact that Liverpool would not change the way they play just because they visit at the Etihad. They would lose a player and get destroyed by 5, but they would still play their game trying to make City’s life a nightmare. While Arsenal dominates other teams but then park the bus just to get a result against City. Which comes off as cowardly.

      That's not cowardly
      It's just determination to get a result
