- 8 (mostly) nonsensical nen abilities, to be fair. Heh, nen-sensical, actually.
As I mentioned, I have a a few more in mind, which could make it in the next batch. Seems Togashi has either become a bit more liberal or changed his mind about what abilities are tied to which category. Or even what each category can do, judging by the latest chapters. If you've got any contenders for a part two, feel free to post them below!

@@Kdizzydowg Its exactly what it sounds like: Sacrificing your arm by turning it into a blade makes a blade stronger than what you would have if you just created a blade.
Palm: She is using emission, like flutter, because yes, flutter is not a conjurer. Emission has shown multiple times the ability to see/hear through your aura, like that one bodyguard of benjamin, or the ability kurapika used to take control of the concroack, kalluto through the paper etc.
hinrigh: Conjuration just allows you to change your body, we just have to accept it, we saw tsubone do it, convert hand do it, and now hinrigh, as for whats the logic behind this? we might get an explanation, like "someone tried to conjure a snake in a space already occupied and what happened was a mix of the two objects" kind of like a bug, which makes sense because thats the kind of thing togashi loves.
Now, changing your body is not transmutation, hell no, Biskey was classified as "ultimate" in the category of transmuter, meaning she is the character with the most amount of knowledge about transmutation we know so far, and if the biggest master of transmutation we know of told us she does not know how she ended up becoming smaller, then transmutation is not the cause of it.

I think that transforming yourself is a combination of Transmutation and Conjuration. I'm not a super nen expert but this makes sense to me:
Transmutation is changing the properties of your aura. Conjuration is creating a physical, tangible object out if your aura. Combine the two and you get changing the properties of physical objects with aura, and if familiarity with an object allows you to have greater control of it most of us are quite familiar with our own bodies.
The only characters we have seen who transform themselves are either Transmuters or Conjurer's, so it makes sense it would be using both of their abilities in tandem to accomplish.
I have a lot of points to talk about:
1. Personally I’m surprised how many people are confused by Palm’s clairvoyance ability. The way I see it, it’s a more limited version of Wink Blue. She connects her sight and Enhancement abilities to the mermaid corpse ball. Enhancing her sight far beyond what she can achieve without the Conditions.
2. You said it yourself in the next number. Conjuration abilities can change the imagery of pre-existing objects and human bodies. This was established by Texture Surprise.
3. Same as above. Also, Biscuit’s transformation would ideally be accomplished through Manipulation. Like Conjuration, Manipulation is much more than its basic description. Manipulators like Illumi, Pouf and Zazan can alter the bodies of themselves and others. Transmutation alters the properties of aura, not objects or people.
4. You got me stumped lmao 😂 IMO he transmutes his aura into plasma, or a refined version of electricity. Wouldn’t the first time we see Transmuters transmute forms of energy.
5. I have no genuine clue how people came to the conclusion that Specialist abilities are manifested suddenly rather than created. The only examples we have are Komugi, Meruem, and Tserridenich. Those examples aren’t really Nen users in the traditional sense.
6. All Nen abilities have weaknesses. There are many Nen users who can react better, sense through aura better, and expand the range of aura better than Killua. The ability wouldn’t be unstoppable against everyone.
1. Heh, "the way I see it." Right, but the issue is we never see her using the ability without the Merman while human. Its unknown whether, or more probably, to what level, she could use Wink Blue while human. That's nonetheless besides the point, as my argument was that this ability simply doesn't work with Enhancement. If it acted like the Byakugan, sure, I could see it (heh), but what she does is full on divination/clairvoyance.
2. Ah, could've mentioned Texture Surprise as a more base-line implementation of it. Heinreigh changing the properties of objects is the thing I by far have the least issues with when it comes to his ability, however.
3. Now that'd damn interesting. I never connected Manipulation with bodily transformation. I always assumed that Illumi's body change is some kind of Zoldyck assassination technique like Killua's claws or Rhythm Echo, but considering he can do it without the needles it does check out. Hmm, however, Pouf and Zazan are chimera ants, and I really wouldn't use them as examples, since they also have a bunch of innate stuff they can do (which they then enhance through Nen). I still think body transformation is largely in domain of Conjurers, as the video states. It's not particularly well defined, which I don't really mind in this case.

6. They do, but the siblings seemed to have been rather far away for them to be effectively sensed through En and, as I said, as soon as that pin is placed, most characters are toast. The apparent power of the ability doesn't match its vows and restrictions in my judgement.

1. Yea, you're right on Palm's clirvoyance ability. It doesn't work on Enhancement and in the wiki its listed as Unknown. Wink Blue ability is justed a powered up Merman Clairvoyance but now she is the 'mermaid' an ant. Its just one of those things that will not be explained. It could be a cursed item that is now fused to her or a Specialization ability.
2 & 3. Texture Surprise doesn't really change Hisoka's body. He conjures paper and sticks it where he wants with Bungee Gum. It looks and feels like skin but he's not changing his skin. So Tsubone's ability is really weird and has to involve more than Conjuration and I agree that Manipulation makes sense. Bisky uses a lot of Manipulation abilities and Illumi's Body Alteration is listed as Manipulation. Another example but this one is less extreme is Shalnark's Autopilot Mode and he manipulates his body into going Super Saiyan.
4. No joke. His father, Zeno, can Transmutate his aura into dragon energy. What does this mean? Maybe the Silver Zoldyck special power is Dragon Transmutation.
5. Agree. Specialist abilities are manifested not created. Hatsu is affected by personality so that's the only clue a Specialist has in developing their power as they can't be train in their specialist abilities. The only time we 'seen' a specialist create an ability is Pitou making Doctor Blythe so she can keep playing with Kite but she was already playing doctor before by poking Pokkle brain. It's safe to say that's part of her personality.
6. Na, siblings have the most OP ability.

2. True, it doesn't change his body, but I believe Stone Free mentioned Texture Surprise in the context of it being a Conjuration ability which nonetheless changes already existing material. While that is leagues and leagues simpler than what Henriegh does with Biohazard, I just noted that I could've mentioned it as a much more basic and sensical implementation of the same principal.
I've nothing to add and agree with all the other points.

this is one of the most ingenious magic systems ever created in comics because it mixes the physical and psychological aspects of characters and balanced it with the risk reward mechnaic .. its not used strictly in fighting but in all aspects of life.. its about obssession dedication life paths talent ect..in the dark contient expediction arc its explored even greater..its a system with endless possibilites but still constatly coming up with abilities that fit the setting and naarrative while being balanced is very hard.. there are a few bad ones .. but i think they still fit and are not breaking any established rule sets

Palm's mermaid crystal ball is likely an attuned item. Similarly to how Morel attunes to his smoke pipe. For some time I was confused about her hatsu, but I think it can make sense as enhancement. She is literally enhancing the crystal ball's supernatural properties. It's sometimes hard to remember that magical beasts exist in HxH.
Biohazard makes sense. Just as Bisky and Tsubone can transform their bodies, Henry transforms these objects. He also seems to have at least 4 decent condictions.
- The objects transformed must be man-made tools.
- He must touch the tools with his hands.
- The resulting animal must be of a compatible size to the tool.
- The result has a time limit. While we haven't been told the exact limit, the way he used the camera cat and oyster tracker implies there is one.
If Tsubone can live and talk as a motorcycle without questioning where her organs are, I see no issue with gun snakes or handcuff pigeons.
For Silva, I don't think you need to mimic any specific property from a specific thing. I find it more reasonable that he simply gave his aura a property of destructibility. While somewhat unrelated, I also believe granting impossible or non-existent properties are possible. As long as those properties are consistent.
The Arthos siblings were BS. I completely agree. Practically undodgable and honestly zero risk to you in exchange for winning a fight somewhere else. BS
I think the point about Palm and Conjuration are pretty interesting so here are my two cents
If you ask me Palm's clairvoyance ability makes a lot of sense and could easily be an application of Manipulation, Emission, or both. The Hatsu including Emission in some way is the most likely since Emission is one of the categories next to Enhancement on the nen chart. There is also a precedent for Manipulation and Emission having Clairvoyant or info gathering abilities. The most obvious example of this we have in the manga is Sayird's Little Eye Hatsu from the manga. It is a Hatsu that makes use of Emission and Manipulation and allows the user to gain control over a small creature and allows him to gain the knowledge of anything the manipulated animal sees or hears. Which is similar to a clairvoyance in that it allows the user to perceive things from a distance. Similarly, Kalluto's Paper Doll Hatsu only makes use of manipulation and allows him here anything said within the vicinity of a person after he makes a paper doll version of said target and attatches a piece of confetti to them. Shalnark's Black Voice, which makes use of manipulation, seemingly allows him to see some sort of video or pov from a person he is manipulating via his phone. Knuckle's Hakoware utilizes emission and manipulation and while its main gimmick is its debt and interest feature it does also allow him to track the general location of anybody that's effected. As far as more Emission related stuff goes there's the "ultrasound" ability Ging used where he releases aura in pulses that allows him to detect living things or potentially abnormalities in the human body through walls and other such physical boundaries and areas. Emission also seems capable of teleportation and making portals, as seen with one of the random pirate boxers at greed island. Allowing things to pass through it. I could easily see someone using emission to create some sort of portal or similar equivalent to watch people through. This could be especially effective if one mixed manipulation with it in order to somehow mark a target. It is always possible that the ability makes use of specialization, like she becomes a specialist while using the Hatsu, but this is extremely unlikely and is literally like 0.0001% because she is an Enhancer. If I had to speculate, I would assume the ability makes use of Emission to allow her to observe things from a distance. With the crystal ball, the blood offering and the fact that she has to physically have seen the person with her own eyes acting as limitations. Interestingly when she becomes a chimera and her new clairvoyance ability, Wink Blue, only allows her to be able to see the last three people she's gazed upon with her right eye, and the oldest target is displaced whenever she looks at someone else. This version of the ability seems more convenient but also with a huge limitation on who she can observe. So, I assume the scrying orb was probably not conjured and was probably a physical object. Although, I guess the possibility that this object is infused with nen in some way to allow for someone like Palm to use it is not impossible I find it unlikely sense Wink Blue seems to be some sort of take on the Hatsu and might have taken its place.
When it comes to Conjuration and Transmutation and the changing objects, I think they do make sense. I think where a lot of the confusion comes from is that Conjuration and Transmutation are probably the most similar in terms of how they tend to manifest. In fact, there are some cases where something that is created from conjuration and something that is created from transmutation would act identically unless you were someone who couldn't see nen witnessing those objects. Transmutation specifically has to do with giving one's aura new properties and causing it to act like another substance or thing while Conjuration actually transforms one's aura into an actual object that even someone who can't use nen could see. In fact, it is not impossible that a nen user could easily mistake transmutation for conjuration and vice versa without using Zetsu or something. Which is made even more confusing by the fact that there are ways to make conjuration techniques invisible to non-nen users such as with In. The way I see it is there are a couple possibilities. First, is that transmutation can be used to indirectly change aspects of the body, giving it the sense that the body is changing. Like if someone transmuted their aura into muscle it is not impossible that they could look bigger or more muscular. The other possibility is that we are simply seeing the transmutation ability from the perspective of a nen user. If you used transmutation to give yourself claws than to other nen users, you would have claws but to the average person you would not have any. In this scenario it would also mean that conjuration might also include physically changing tangible non-nen objects. This could be seen as replacing the object some way or simply adding mass and substance to that object. Like imagine if you used conjuration to start creating iron atoms then put that over your arm. It could also be that conjuration can mess with atoms themselves somehow by adding on to them or something but that could be a stretch. It could also be that you can seemingly create turn one object into another with conjuration by conjuring something with your aura and using an existing object as a component to create that object or as a condition to create that object. Like if you could conjure a cake but needed sugar to conjure the rest of the cake or could create a hammer but needed to use your arm in order to conjure the hammer or tool for the duration of the Hatsu. Imagine you have a sword and then you learn what the sort is made of and can conjure that metal. Well, it would make a lot of sense that you could use conjuration to conjure more metal onto the sword and make it bigger. This is also in line with what we already knew of conjuration. For example, Kurapika can extend the length of his chains to some degree. They are usually much shorter when he is not actively using them(probably to make them easy to carry around and the ability to extend is helpful in combat) In the case of Kurapika's chains or Saiyu's staff. Now, what if you say learned how to conjure rubber instead and added rubber to the sword's composition byt sticking it between the pieces of metal that make up its blade and then coating it in rubber so it looks like a rubber stick or something. The point being Transmutation is only about transforming the qualities of your aura, which might in turn effect your body, and conjuration is more about actual physical objects. Another possibility could be that the changing of existing objects, like guns to snakes, could simply require both conjuration and transmutation(but while this makes a lot of sense, I don't think it's very likely with the information we have at the moment). As to how someone could make a Hatsu that turns objects into animals via conjuration and has them completely retain say the ability to shoot bullets without injuring the creature, I have no idea. Maybe they are not literally the 1 to 1 copy of an animal and are only meant to resemble existing animals or maybe the animals are enhanced or manipulated in such a way that protects them. Your guess is as good as mine. It's possible that there is a limitation on Hinrigh's ability that we have yet to see, like maybe he can only transform objects into animals he is familiar with or knows the anatomy of or something.

In base principal? Sure, in some respects. The thing that just to conjure simple chains, Kurapika needed hours and hours of training. Hinrigh can seemingly transform, ANY device into ANY animal AND retain ALL the properties of both. It's non-sensical. It just feels too much like a JoJo stand and not enough like a Nen ability. Love his character though.

I took palms clairvoyance not as a nen ability but a more occult ability that she enhances with her nen. Maybe the statue is a nen construct similar to the seed urn that requires blood as a condition
Hi, I came from the least special specialist video, and yeah my only headcanon for Palm's clairvoyance is that the crystal ball is someone else's post mortem conjuration (like the kakin Urn) and she's just enhancing its ability through her blood as restriction, but then once Pouf turned her into a chimera, she JUST has the ability as a forhead crystal ball wtf
I’ve always tried to classify benolt I the he’s a manipulator the condition to activate his hatsu is eating hair he has cut with his favorite scissors which he uses to manipulate the hair to gain knowledge of the opponents body but he could just be a specialist
I kinda feel it could be emission (divination based abilities usually seem to be emission or specialisation) or maybe a abstract enhancer ability that enhances the taste buds to the point you can can taste their physical traits through eating a part of them. Definitely a odd ability.
Merman Clairvoyance to me always seems to be emission and transmutation with the idea of detaching aura and shaping it as an eye mainly using emission to make a one way window something like Gaara's sand eye technique in the chunnin written exam in Naruto.

Im guessing silvas ability is a mix between transmuted ball lightning and something else in order to make it more destructive. How he managed that special training however is beyond me, he does live on a mountain. I can just imagine him running out of his cave/room to the top of the mountain every time a lightning storm comes by in order to shout at the clouds to smite him.
It's shown that conjures can change parts of their bodies. This can be seen that in a assistant of mary in here nen game on the black whale but this doesnt really make sense to me since it changes a part of your body but this is just an assumption
In the manga, it is stated you need super light reaction speed to catch these darts. This ability is obviously too broken and can kill 99% of the cast
Palm's clairvoyance ability is enhancement because she enhances the effect of that object. It's not conjured. We know there are actually things in hunter x hunter that are not really based on Nen but gives powers as well. Just like Kurta clan's red eyes, and some mythical creatures etc etc. So the object that Palm uses is enhancement because she enhances the ability of the dead mermaid. We have seen enhancement used this way, Billy from the succession war can sprout a seed in an instance. So basically that's what Palm is doing, plus she also enhances her hair.
I agree it;s kinda confusing the categorize. Lastly, I think changing one's body seems like can be done either through transmutation or conjuration.
Fair, but wh ywas it then implied by Knov that specifically her blood is a precious resource. It COULD be the case that the ability is the Merman's alone, and that she, as an Enhancer, can best utilize it, as the one using it has to provide the blood, but that's never stated, and, as far as I'm concerned, not what was implied.
Furthermore, it doesn't explain how she got the ability when she became a Chimera Ant. It has to be something directly tied to her.

Silva is an emitter; he just creates a large amount of aura and shoots at people, which is standard. Hngrich also makes perfect sense, as he restricts his ability to have an inanimate material in the living world and then conjure it into a living material. He has done this through restrictions to create living animals. As for Palm, I think it has to do with the crystal ball, where she enhances its power along with all the restrictions, though I would have to say it is nonsensical and takes enhancement to an extreme level.
There is some points i would like to talk about :
- for the ant women i think here haitsu depends on emission . I know she is enhancer but they can use emission abilities.
- about the conjurer type . I agree with you they are somewhat retconed and become more powerful and free not like the original idea .
- zeno and salvia are emitter (the new togashi event) and i hate this because we have seen that nen type is hereditary so killua should be emitter or manipulator not transmuter . Maybe togashi want to say he is a basterd 😂.

Palm: even if Merman Clairvoyance was Emission-based and not Enhancement it still wouldn't make sense. It being anything else apart from Specialization (or a simple slip up on Togashi's part) opens the floodgates to Nen typology basically becoming redundant and arbitrary. Though with Lynch's emission-based ability being very similar to Pakunoda's specialist-based one, all the while Pakunoda's ability was heralded for its uniqueness does worryingly point to things going into that direction.

Zeno and Silva: Really!? I need to take time to take a look and analyze it. That's... kind of disappointing honestly, really liked the whole silver hair, transmuter heredity thing the Zoldycks implied, as you mention. Oh, and it STILL doesn't explain what the hell those balls energy are supposed to be. Some generic Nen... combustion... I guess.

@@theoverthinker348 Now that i think about it emission would make a hell of a lot more sense considering Emission is THE category of teleportation (leorio and knov). If she opens a kind of small portal from which she can spy from as if she was looking through a peephole would make a lot more sense.
silva :Those nen balls could literally be just generic emission nen considering silva is an emitter. We have seen pure emitters have that kind of destructive force before (remember razor blowing up the boat with a ball the size of a volleyball ?)
binolt: i don't really see any problem or anything "nonsensical" about that ability at all. Breaks no rules of nen. it's pretty cut and dry specialisation.
Abilities like chrollo's bandit secret are a lot more confusing and blur the line between specialisation and conjuration and imo would be more fit to be in this video if you ask me.

Plus, it has been very well established that emission cannot only teleport things but also used to create portals and openings of one variety or another. So, the idea that one could use emission to say see through a portal or see something out of their normal range of vision by peering through something is not out of the range of possibility.

I believe that people in the hunter x hunter universe have a sixth sense or the sense of intuition. It sounds dumb but I feel that she can enhance that sense until it becomes premonition powers.

Potentially. Knov said that her blood was a very valuable resource because of the Merman, however, I don't think that statement works if any enhancer of her level could accomplish the same thing.
@@theoverthinker348 Magic by itself exists in the HxH universe outside of nen. So Palm is really just enhacing the ability of an object that works magically with her blood.
Another example of this is Kurapika using a lie detector with his chain.. I mean, it has nothing to do with conjuration, unless there's an object that detects lies and can be conjured. That's the case with that chain used for adivination.

What about vows? They should be taken into consideration
Oh, I plan to touch on vows at some point, it's a fascinating concept that Togashi went it exactly in the direction I wanted it to.
A vow, however, cannot change the core nature of one's ability or allow them to do things outside of what their category should allow.
For example, while I could see Palm with an ability to see over far distances and even see through objects if her base ability were to amplify her visual acuity (Byakuugan style), what she's doing is much closer to divining. She's not looking at Gon and Killua over far distances, she's actively peering into reality through the Merman using her blood as a condition (her angle of vision also implies this).

Definitely there's a problem. Specialists are supposed to be able to create things that can't be created with other categories.. however, Knuckle seems to be able to use conjuration to create a Pokémon that steals your nen. I mean, it seems there's nothing that can't be done with other categories lmao.

Kurapika's teach is just some nobody thats never picked up a book or even seen a school before. Dude talks about feeling up a chain for months to conjure it whwn all you need to do is cover it with your nen, feel what its made up of and replicate it. For better efficiency, pick up a book on how chains are made and what they are made up of.

The dart ability as so many conditions and would not work against the top nen users. I don’t really think it breaks the rules of nen.

In Netero vs Meruem, Netero is an Enhancer and his skill likes Emitte/he could use maximum 80% Emitte, Meruem is an Emitter and he acted likes an Enhancer/he could use maximum 80% Enhance. Hinrigh's skill is more likes a Transmuter than a Conjurer/he could use maximum 80% Transmute
