  • In this video I do a take-down of my own previously held opinions and argue as to why Emission should supplant Transmutation as the best fighting-attuned category. Where do you stand on the topic?

    Yo, just now noticed, but seems like all of my added text were moved a bit further up the video than they were supposed to be. Probably because I added the Garrosh scene at the beginning of the vid at the very end of the editing process and forgot to properly move the text along the editing line. Sorry if that causes any confusion.

    To undertand Emission you have to think of it as Projection. Project your aura to blast something, projects your body throght space, project your vision to remote viewing, the possibilities are infinite.

      Perfectly said, I agree with the view of it as not "emitting" but actually "projecting" like moving something somewhere, whatever it may be.

    If Emission and Transmutation are competing for the top slot, then doesn't that make Enhancement the top category purely for its ease of access to the two, while also being a necessity for combat? Most enhancers we've seen aren't very creative with it, but if they were I think we'd see a lot of excellent powers. Transmuting and then emitting your aura seems like a top tier combo, after all, especially if you're also excellent in close-quarters combat.

    • @theoverthinker348
      @theoverthinker348  2 месяца назад +8

      That is a fantastic point. Here are my thoughts:
      There isn't too much merit in combining Emission with Transmutation if you're an Enhancer. Instead of Transmuting your aura into.... something and then tossing at the opponent (e.g. what someone like Silva does with his orbs, though that ability seems a lot more suited for a Transmuter than an Emitter if you ask me) simply fire off your emitted aura at the opponent (Franklin-style). While its almost certainly coincidental, the two most destructive abilities we've seen have both been Emission-based (i.e. Zero Hand and Meruem's concentrated Rage Blast). Adding Transmutation seems obsolete or even detrimental to the ability's destructive capabilities unless you're going for a very specific effect.
      Transmutation seems to be a much more difficult category to learn and master than Emission. While the basics of Transmutation will allow you to change the properties of your aura (i.e. make able to cut, such as Gon's Scissors), if you want more moderate to advanced applications of Transmutation, you'll need to put great effort in mimicking the properties of a specific substance (i.e. electricity, heat, rubber (and gum), etc. (unless you were tortured as a kid by it as a kid in which case go nuts)). This while the basics of Emission already include the core of the categories mechanics (emitting one's aura and hitting things with it).
      OK, this essay's getting out of hand. Sorry. In conclusion, while you make a great point and have given me something to seriously consider, I would argue that advanced application of Emission, paired with the moderate use of Enhancement and Manipulation, is a more optimal and lenient combination in its own right. While I'm sure there are insanely powerful or cool abilities you could come up with using the Enhancement-Emission-Transmutation combo, the Emission-Manipulation-Enhancement side seems to give you a lot more options, since we are yet to see any truly advanced combat usage of Enhancement on the level of Emission's "damage transfer" for example.
      Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

      A big part of the reason Emission and Transmutation are at the top is their proximity to Enhancement. Giving Enhancement extra credit for being next to the things that are next to Enhancement is double dipping

  • @Whodjathink

    Honestly any affinity can be the best at combat. Conjuration and Manipulation could end fights easily, sometimes not even needing to fight. I'd say Enhancement is the best not because of what Izunavi said, but because you could still branch out and be varied using the other affinities while still having to use the least amount of aura to defend yourself from other types of attacks

    • @Whodjathink
      @Whodjathink 2 месяца назад +5

      Also at 7:39 they aren't phasing through reality, Luini was in his portal. Phasing isn't even really a property of Emission, just a basic property of Aura in general. Emitters, for obvious reasons, can take advantage of that property better than others.
      Emission didn't really get much of an upgrade, it's just we've finally seen the concepts we've been told being used more.

    I still feel like Conjuration is not only the best category for combat, but simply the best category. Not only does it allow you to put more bodies on the field, which is the best possible ability, but it also allows you to do everything every other category does. You want to be more tough and strong than an enhancer? Make super armor. You want to have more range than an Emitter? Make a super gun. You want to have the properties of both rubber and gum? Conjure a Bungee Gum generator. You want to mind control somebody? Conjure a Nen contract. Literally every category, including everything Specialization has ever been shown to do, can be replicated by a skilled Conjurer.

    Maby I am naive for thinking like that and you would have to be a real nen Genius to be able to do this. But I think there is a way for enhancers to be the strongest. The thing is nobody does that in the series so maby its not possible but thought of following. As an Enhancer you have 80% Affinity to Transmuation and Emission. You could create an ability wich uses transmutation to change your aura into something like flames, lightning, or lava. You can then use this to attack with you 100% enhancement strengh and cover you fists with transmuted nen of this element. On top of that you could use your 80% emission to fire of the transmuted aura like fireballs, or lighning balls. This gives you very powerful close and mid range options.>
    In short i think pairing Transmutation with Emission is a super strong combination and Enhancment is the best one for doing this. That + The strengh and defence buff Enhancement gives you this should be the best combination for combat in my Opinion.
    Please give feedback on this take or if i have some flaws in my theorie.

    • @jacobkristensen1692
      @jacobkristensen1692 2 месяца назад +1

      It does seem viable. I do wonder about how much someone using an ability like that would need manipulation in tandem with emission to make those fire balls a threat. For an enhancer fighting in this way I thought keeping things fairly simple like hisoka would be good. A hatsu that transmutes nen making it able to vary in density malleability/elasticity could be strong making networks of shields spikes bubbles and nets. The main trick would be creating air pockets compressing and vacuuming air simply by manipulating your Nens shape. and then using jets of air to guide strands of nen (sometimes with a solid pointy end) to lay traps or hit your opponent.

    • @jacobkristensen1692
      @jacobkristensen1692 2 месяца назад +1

      For your ability you would need to create a sort of barrier between the users body and the offensive nen though. Killua could ignore the shocks (it wasn’t stated as a 1 to 1 copy of actual electricity if I recall though he did electrocute himself with wires once to recharge) but feitan had to protect his body from the heat.

He can emitt aura from his body in a form of orbs and then manipulate those orbs so they can hit his opponents at a blinding speed. On top of that he has 80% affinity for enhancement so he could either enhance himself just incase things get physical or enhance the orbs.

      Great example. Something like his orbs is what I had in mind.
      The only issue with him is that, as far as I can remember, his gimmick was that he had the physical capabilities of a regular guy. If he could've used his powera to boost his physical durability or speed, that would've been the absolute perfect example of what I had in mind.

    While I agree emission is probably the most versatile in combat, I think enhancers are the kings of combat.
    If you're born an enhancer, you can essentially live within your category, because it comes with all the offense and defense you need at 100% without needing to branch off to another category. It's a completely self-sufficient nen type.
    And we see what enhancers can do. Gon's jajanken multiplies his punch. Phinks can probably rotate his arm to absurd levels. Uvo's big bang need no explanation.
    You can also enhance any weapons you might want to use. I think Gotoh enhances his coins to fire them as a ranged attack. So enhancement isn't limited to only melee.

  • @thedestroy3r303
    @thedestroy3r303 2 месяца назад +1

    I doubt any single category can be definitively considered the best, especially when there's a wildcard that could introduce unknown abilities of unknown strength into the algorithm. However, aside from specialization, I would have to agree that emission seems like the best choice due to its proximity to the other two powerhouse categories and its infinite pool of possible abilities.

    I think nen beasts fall under conjuration. With conjuration you can materialize an object or a being from your aura. Emission is broadly speaking "separating your aura from your body". Razor is an emitter so a 40% compatibility in conjuration that's why his nen beasts have no special traits but they are still created by conjuration.

Emission is more for survival, in specific cases maybe surprise murder, but otherwise it is a weaker enhancement with tricky concepts emission and pew-pews flying different directions.
