I have did an entire shower renovation with ZERO experience just from your channel
That is awesome! Thanks for the comment!
I like how this guy goes to the point
Time is money, so I can’t waste it!
The paint trick is a great idea.
Thank you! It works well for me. Be sure to stay tuned for more videos to come!
The best instructional videos ever 👍🏼
I especially like this “new and improved” version of shower pan installation
Brilliant thanks
I will try to do this myself
You make these topics so entertaining. I’m not doing any of these projects but i love when a new video is posted.
Thank Tyler for tuning in! It’s fun making videos for people that enjoy them. Stay tuned for more!
Best construction instructor on RUclips
Thanks a lot!
Thank you. There were several techniques that I didn't know about, like particularly the felt paper on the floor with the cement base and the leveling technique. that you used It's for the shower pan.
great video. Thank you.
Nice solid install 👍 with access to plumbing this is definitely the way to go 👍
Thanks BRT! I could never build a house on a slab and live there. You and I both know hidden plumbing can be a worry.
@@TheExcellentLaborer for sure, 😆 especially with all the other trades running and digging during the project, 😆 might of been laid right from the start…but a few skid steers can change that
You are a gem!
I appreciate that!
Professional explanation 👌
Thank you for watching!
Hey man! best videos ever. I have a question for you. I am about to start my bathroom project on my garage loft. Can I install the shower base pan directly over the plywood flooring???
Great video
Hey Noah! Thanks for the comment!
I’m starting the installation of a shower base pan this week. Your video couldn’t have come at a better time. Thanks.
Perfect timing. Good luck with your project Robert!
Great vid, the only thing I would add is.
While drywall screws are commonly used on the pan, to me its worth the extra quarter or dollar to use deck or stainless screws.
Thanks Richard!
Great video! I was wondering what type of sand you mixed with the type S mortar? Thank You!
Do you use the same method when installing an onyx style base? Or is there a difference in the mortar type? Great videos by the way!
Great helpful video. But the shower base I am installing is in the basement on a concrete floor. Is there a different method of connecting the drain assembly since I won’t have access to it from below? Do you have a basement install video? Thanks!
If I'm only doing the one could I use a type s mortar instead of doing the mix with sand and cement? Appreciate the video
Do you have a video of installing tile flooring in the shower? Not using a prefab base?
The reference you were looking for when describing the consistency of the concrete would've best been called, "block mud" brick layers and swimming pool finishers love block mud, with plenty of calcium
I hope I lern something new every video this I got confirmation I did it right ✅
Hey! I’m glad you tuned in for this video. It is cool how you can reference different RUclips videos to see how people do things different. Thanks for watching!
With the exception of the ABS shower drain to schedule 40 pvc pipe everything looked great. Usually not a problem, but picky inspectors will ding ya.
Thanks for watching!
yep- that's a fail in MN - ALSO a fail if you use tape on plastic joints like he recommends. Otherwise - great vid
Delta shower installation
Hey quick question. Do you need to vent the shower like you do toilet and vanity? Great videos thanks!
Is the mortar bed required if your floor is level? I am not sure if it was used to level the floor or for other reasons.
I'm here!
Hey Austin!
Silly question but I don't know if it's necessary. Do you have to seal the drain underneath for insects and other threats or just leave it unsealed?
I would like to know if you have a hole saw that is 4 inches and the drain measures 4 over all inches (on the bottom) should you go a little wider like 4 1/4 because if you have to service by cutting the drain pipe and removing the trap how are you going to get it out of ther if it is trapped between the floor or CDX and the shower pan?
My pan sits against the back wall, but there's about a 1/4 inch gap on the left and right sides. Will that be alright considering my backer board is 1/2 inch?
I wonder, when you staple the vapour barrier, cant the holes from staples pass the vapour through them?
How is using shower walls/pans that say they are direct-to-stud installation different? Do you still need the mortar base under the pan?
Being a roofer, I haven’t used felt in years. I’m guessing synthetic underlayment would also work just fine?
Yes synthetic underlayment would work just fine. That’s all I use on roofs too!
Can you put shower pan just on top of felt paper ??
I was told the shower pan I got , doesn’t need mortar under. I’ve looked on google and some say you don’t and some say you do need it.. help
Does the shower drain not need a vent? Love your videos!
Shower drains are typically wet vented through a nearby lav. He doesn't really show how it connects to the 3" drain but I'd assume there's a lav branching off of that 2" going to the shower which is vented which would, in turn, vent the shower too.
🤘🥰🤘
Is the cement bed under the shower pan necessary if your floor is perfectly level? I'm installing a 38" corner shower, so the footprint is pretty small.
For a solid shower base I recommend mortar. If every foot peg was on the floor for sure you would not have to but I can almost guarantee you that is not the case. You need something to fill the voids so mortar does that just that. Hope that helps!
Can someone please send me a link for felt paper? All I can find is for roof underlayment. Is that the same thing. Someone help me 🇨🇦
What shower base are you using?
That's nice. But have a finished basement and don't have access to the PVC from underneath. I can get at it, cut it, and put in new PVC from the top. But obviously gluing and pressing into place is not possible. I've seen a dozen videos that tell you how to place the drain into the shower pan. But none that tell you how to connect the drain to plumbing underneath that when you don't have access from below.
I am confused for this type or shower pan is a slope not needed to make sure any leaking water is directed to the drain
So it’s okay to use Teflon tape on a pvc union ??
no
tape is for metal
What happens when you have a slab foundation and can’t get underneath the The shower pan
If the plumbing was not placed before pouring the concrete slab, it’s very difficult to plumb it after the slab. From my experience we would have to cut out the concrete and connect the plumbing to the main drain that way. Sometimes it’s almost impossible without causing major work! Hope that helps!
The reason I was asking is because I want to turn my tub into a walk in shower

Your new shower pan drain location would need to be the same location
Chip chip chip chippie chip
Drywall screws in a shower? Lol
Dry wall screws no good you should have used stainless screws just saying being its a wet area.
No disrespect but please don't use drywall screws in any wet environment they rot... Should really only use stainless steel or galvanized fasteners.
I used to lay the mortar bed the same size as the shower pan underneath, but now I just put about 14 plops of mortar down about 8 in in diameter and set the pan on top of that and actually use the mortar itself to level the pan out, I don't bother using shims anymore since it's not really needed... And it's much faster to just use them water itself as the shim and just tap it into place...
