I remember that Ken was SO beloved by the players in this version... His background, music, super moves, attitude... Was his peak
That extra long ponytail 😍 lol
Not to mention: My fight stages, combo attacks, being the only character who breaks the fourth wall, and charisma.
@@ranma36
One problem about that long ponytail...
... It became one of Street Fighter's greatest plot-errors! SFA took place only several months after SF1, hair doesn't grow that fast!
@@KenMasters.agreed. My hair grows fast but not enough in a couple of months to make it to my shoulders. Hell not even past my shoulders😭😂
@@KenMasters.
The errors don't stop there. Ken gives Ryu his hair tie after their fight in Alpha 2 which Ryu uses as a headband. Yet, in Alpha 3, Ryu still has his white headband and Ken's hair is still long and tied up.
Im so blessed to have grown up in the 90s and 2000s of fighting games. grateful for having been around and experienced, lived and breath all those timeless classics in this beautiful genre of fighting games
Same here born in 1991 early 90’s.
Same here man. Those were the best years of my life.
Likewise. There were so many fighting games during the 90s.
Exactly man! I know anyone can start anytime but man.. living thru these icons that we didn't know they would become one is just special! You had to be in those times to understand fully, growing up with early capcom fighting games & SNK is something i treasure so much
i miss games like these.
Alpha's artstyle will always be how I visualize these characters because I got into Street Fighter via the Marvel versus games.
The best art style
Whoever did the art for the thumbnail needs a raise. Shit’s 🔥🔥🔥
Akiman
His name is Kainonaut, he’s on Twitter and Instagram. This thumbnail is parody of Akiman’s work for alpha 3
It's dope. Would love to see that kind of artwork for Street Fighter 6.
muito bom mesmo
@SOUL SEEKER You're referring to Konami. Trying to steal Street Fighter 2's spotlight with their ill-fated fighting game, Martial Champion.
Ken's stage in this game is probably one of my favorite stages of all time. you literal see a lot of capcom characters chilling in the background.
Even that one Ibuki-looking babe from *Alien vs. Predator* was there because she is an original character by Capcom while the others from her game belong to 20th Century Fox,
the same studio that created the abomination known as Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li.
My dad used to take me to this pizza shop every evening before we picked up my mom and I’d play alpha 2 and X-men vs street fighter there. Eventually I managed to get it from a friend for PSX and I was hooked, good ass times. Animation style and music remains the best, nostalgia at its finest.
I pumped too much money into X-Men vs Street fighter
Alpha 2 for PS1 is very good. My friend had X-Men vs Street Fighter on PS1 and I felt bad for him. Many things in that game were scaled way back. The only good things about that game were you could cancel supers together and you could paly as apocalypse with a code.
@@JavenarchX that and MVC1 drained all my cash
Animation yes but third strike has the best music without a doubt
Man I just loved the almost robotic voices for the announcers in older fighting games. It really gets you hyped up and I wish more fighting games would use something similar.
“Yeah, that makes sense.”
I absolutely adore the vibrancy of the Alpha series, especially 2. the colours just pop, and feel very appealing, I especially noticed this with Rolento and his stage. I hope Street fighter games in the near future could adopt these styles.
If there's a fighting game that made me, it's Street Fighter Alpha 2. I learned a lot through playing Alpha 2 such as how to properly execute special moves. To this day, it still stands as my favorite fighting game of all time.
Still my favorite SF till this day. This game was basically perfect In my opinion: great music, great stages, tight fun gameplay, great artwork, etc. So many memories of playing this one in arcades and on the Saturn. One of my favorite fighting games ever.
Loved Sakura and Ken stage OST 👍
Alpha 3 is my favorite. It use to drive me crazy that you only got one chance to win the final fight against either Ryu or Bison. The art style of the Alpha series has always been the best looking to me. I'm pretty badass with Balrog, Guy, and Ken
Alpha 3 also spoke to me as well easily my face sf game too
Yes but third strike is neck to neck with alpha art style
@@koaelmorz7073 yea it looks good but I give Alpha the edge and I prefer the characters on Alpha. Balrog, Ken, and Guy are my best characters. They kept Ken but changed him just enough that I'm not as good with him. Oro is really the only person I'm good with on 3. I do like to play Urien and Ibuki too though
@@Hero-For-Hire I'm not totally awesome with a lot of characters i just love the looks man. 😁
From the moment I played SFII, I've been hooked! The Alphas, Capcom VS SNK 2, & Third Strike just took it to another level for me. Been scrappin it out ever since! Can't forget about these either!! Xmen VS Street Fighter and Marvel vs Capcom(2)!
As salam alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu akhi. Don't forget the awesome Marvel superheroes and Xmen children of the Atom the two precursors before the the vs series tou mentioned. I prefer one on one because I prefer no pussy calling on back up, just me and my opponent eye to eye. One of us is going sleepy time.
Yessssssss
Alpha 2's intro is the best of the 3, so damn iconic. Plenty of great songs and shoutouts to SF2. I'm more of an Alpha 3 person (yes, even dealing with V-ism lol.) But there's always people comparing Alpha 2 vs Alpha 3, both great games.
Even though I was around playing fighting games in the 90s, I missed this game the first time around. I didn't get to really experience it until the 30th Anniversary Collection, and it quickly became one of my favorite SF games right up there with 3rd Strike.
SFA2 set the bar for the “MvC” series. I only wished they put Rolento and Rose in that chaos.
Lol… no, it didn’t…
@@SlickRick4EVER It didn't, but MvC does owe a lot to the Street Fighter series alone.
👍👍
@@AndersonTenecela Thank you!
@@tellmesomething2412 - No… it was Darkstalkers that lead to the innovation of the change of graphics for Alpha. What Street Fighter did for Darkstalkers was the supers.
To this day, Alpha 2 still has my favorite overall presentation of any SF game. The music, graphics, just everything!
Out of all the street fighter entries that existed for the last 35 years, Street Fighter Alpha (Zero) 2 always puts a smile on my face. :)
This sequel will always have a special place in my heart being that it defined 1996 as a memorable year in gaming. ❤️
The fact the Alpha series were made during mid production of Resident Evil speaks volumes on how Capcom were so devoted in finishing a product that delivered a memorable experience. On top of that, this game really showed the power Q Sound Technology.
I played alpha 2 like an obsessed nerd. But when alpha 3 dropped. I broke the 5th wall.
@@MuhammadAli-xw4yc I share the same views as Max. Alpha 3 was awesome with its roster, gameplay, and art style but still can't shake why Alpha 2 is usually more preferable. For me personally, executing supers are easier in alpha 2 and also probably because it came out in the mid 90s during the 32 bit era.
I dont know how to describe it but i love the heart of these older games. The art, vibe, music, character design, game play
Alpha 2 was the fighting game that made me double take on the fighting game genre. That opening. The compelling story lines.
Guy is definitely my favorite character to use in Alpha 2. I've been playing it in the 30th Anniversary collection and forgot how great this game is. I need to learn how to pull of those custom combos. I didn't even know that was a thing.
The Alpha series is indeed one of my most favourite of the street fighter series ever. Especially Alpha 2 is one of them. It also got me into playing street fighter to begin with. Oh man the opening of this game is one of my favs in this game, and how can we forget about the awesome cover of this game where Ryu and Akuma have a stare down.
The Saturn version of this is the only Street Fighter I've ever managed to beat on highest difficulty. I remember seeing this in an arcade my grandma used to take me to when I had a free afternoon from college. I managed to 1CC it as Ryu the first time I played it, then I spotted Dan, played him and never looked back. Such fond memories of this game. It's a shame the anniversary collection never had online for this. If I ever want to feel like I'm good at Street Fighter, I'll pop some Alpha 2 on.
Agreed. It is a shame A2 isn't on 30th Anniversary. I recently tried Fightcade, there are some people that play it there but I'd imagine the lobby isn't massive.
I can't even count how many quarters I wasted in SFA2 in the arcade around my way. It got the point where I was stealing the quarters reserved for laundry day (my mom was understandably pissed). I loved the game so much. Its still to this day my favorite SF game, more than SF3 which I didn't really like at the time, or SF2 (which was considered dated or old at that time). My trifecta was SFA2, Darkstalkers, and XCOTA/MSH. The minute I got out of school I would run to the arcade and play.
When my local arcade had this back in 1996 I walked to the arcade to play it. A year later I bought the SNES port of alpha 2 for 20 dollars at the flea market lol.
Alpha 2 is one of my favorite street fighters and these days I play it on my retropie.
You didn’t waste any of them quarters 😎
I remember playing it as soon as it hit the arcade in my hometown. I was ALWAYS at the Alpha 2 cabinet and the X Men vs Street Fighter one and eventually the XMCOTA one. I remember the primitive internet (Netscape) days where a friend in middle school printed off some cheats codes for Shin Akuma and other stuff lol
Street Fighter Alpha 2/Gold and 3, are the best games in the Street fighter series to me, there even better than all versions of 3, 4, and even 5, I'm real glad you like you Street Fighter Alpha 2/Gold, I do really appreciate it Maximilian Dood ✌️
Doesn’t matter how many times i play this game, never will get tired of it!
Still remember going to Putt Putt Golf and running the hands on the arcade, that intro is iconic
alpha 2 is probably the most fun i have ever had with a street fighter game.
Mi tío solía tener un local de juegos árcade, y siempre se escuchaba el intro de este juego bien fuerte, pero la versión "Zero". Y cada vez que escucho ese intro, la nostalgia es fuerte.
Damn, Alpha 3 was and probably is my favorite in the whole series. We spend so much time with my brother in Dramatic Battle and in Versus. It is still gold
Yes! Dramatic battle is so fun. :)
Never thought Max and I were on the same page when it comes to Street FIghter Alpha 2.
I remember the day when I literally got Sega Saturn solely just to play this game..along with many other fighting games in Saturn.
Yes I could've got playstation but it was the saturn pad that made a whole difference.
Saturn version was WAY better, it looked and sounded better than the PSX vers... and like you mentioned the Saturn's xyz/abc layout was clutch !
@@ranma36 LOL yea everyone looked at me like crazy. It was either saturn or playstation and I ultimately chose Saturn (though I would get PSX much much later on of course)They were all like "Yo the new Final Fantasy and many more games are coming on PSX!"
And I'll be like "But I wanna play Street Fighter Alpha2!!"
@@Kincaidu facts bro! to this day I have always been reluctant to own a Playstation! PSX destroyed the Saturn with its marketing and partnering with devs like Squaresoft (FF7, Xenogears, Tactics, Chrono Cross) and Konami (Metal Gear Solid) The Saturn had some amazing games it was viewed as the 3rd place option in the war at that point.
It's no question that the 90s and the 2000s were the Pinnacle of fighting game potential. SF Alpha 3 max will always hold a special place in my heart since it was my first Alpha game that I ever played, however alpha-2 is a strong close second.
One last thing to add definitely dig the artwork for this video, seen Ryu-Max against Akuma. Who's believes that Max and his friends should get their own video game based on themselves as the plot will be having them going through some of their favorite games and trying to get free, I mean if avgn can have his own game why can't they.
I find my overall interest in fighting games directly linked to how many Maxx videos I watch per day
I had a tons of fun with this game. Back then i played it a lot with my childhood friends. It’s in my Top 3 best SF. If only SF 30th Anniversary Collection have online play :/
There was a moment in time when alpha 2 and alpha 3 were out that my friends would come over and fight after school. We had legendary fights. Some of my best fighting game memories. Great art and characters.
...Did you just mostly copypasta what Dark put? All you did was re-word the first 28 words then onwards it's the exact same.
I do not read every comment before I write one.
My favorite street fighter series of all time, glad I was born in the late 80's and got to experience this with friends and family. Music and art style is just incredible, and the diffrent trigger supers. Just Superb
Memories of playing this classic after school and on Saturdays!! I still have the music in my head 25 years later
I'll always love Alpha 2.
I have so many memories of this game. It was one of the first games I ever played as a kid on the Super Nintendo. Even if that version of the game is awful in comparison to everything else, I'll still always treasure it.
Bro same i had this on my 3ds i always played it on my schoolbus on the ride home lol!
Playing this on the SNES was a blast. Playing it on the arcade is the cherry on top for this.
no, thats if you win with jab or short
Have you seen Max's vids on "busted" A2 SNES?
I know it's what I had to mess with, and it was good stuff.
The PS1 version of Alpha 2 included in the street fighter collection was the first game I've ever played when I was a kid. It's still to this day one of my favorite games of all time and I still love to play it to this day. So cool to see everyone have as much love for this game as I do
Any game that has Sagat depicted as a massive character, I’m in.
I miss the days where Capcom made Sagat act like Adon in SFII,
but with blind rage and a thirst for revenge after some brain trauma or damage from Ryu's Shōryūken across his chest to his jaw.
Street Fighter Alpha 2 is such a classic game, Good art Style, Good Mechanics and amazing Characters. Soundtrack is awesome too. I also love how the roster looks, Alpha 2 defines what Street Fighter is and will be always be great like 3rd Strike and the older street Fighter Games.
This was my first street fighter game. The combos were hard for me to do back then. Good times!
I used to play this game on ps1 so much. It was the first fighting game I ever tried to learn. It will forever be my favorite.
We had a SF Zero 2 Gold edition cabinet at work and we played that game ALL THE TIME. SSF2 Ryu and SSF2 Ziengief are nasty. I loved Ken's roll. It was so useful for me.
Alpha 2 for me is just so nostalgic for me as a kid growing up, it's just something about that year of 96' when it dropped cause Capcom was on 🔥 throughout that year. Star Gladiator, X-MEN vs Street Fighter seeing everybody going crazy at the arcade over the 2v2 style. That was a very memorable year in my life for sure
Only people who grew up in the 80s and 90s understand how grateful we are for having played these incredible iconic fighting games that would go on to shape the entire industry, the video game history, heck the entire world. The memories we had playing offline actually on the coach with friends we actually knew and loved.
Figuring out moves and combos by word and rumor not by youtube guides and google. No social media, no toxic cesspools, no hate msgs and triggered kids, just playing video games we enjoy together.
These legendary games and milestones we were lucky enough to experience this remarkable, simpler time. Playing video games with your friends at someone’s house, something so normal, not knowing yet we would make some of the fondest memories we would look back to.
Easily one of my favorite SF's the classic 90's art the announcer is absolutely my favorite in any Street fighter to this day!! And the stages were 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Just saw the Ryu and Chun Li renders for the new crossover. They lookin' good. You can probably tell who was talked about more, tho.😂
which crossover are you talking about?
@@ilypo KOF All Stars X Street Fighter Champions Edition
Yes! My fave SF of them all! I was heading to my fav arcade back in the 90s and they had a sign outside in chalk saying “Street Fighter Alpha Warriors Dreams.” I remember saying “the what now?” When I saw it with my own eyes, I was mesmerised at the artwork and watched the intro over and over. I didn’t know it was Ryu cos he was so young! Alpha is what started my love for SF on a whole new level! Then Alpha 2 came out and I was smitten. I was friends with arcade owner and he told me a new Alpha game was coming in after hours. When it came in, he locked up and gave me free 20’s (20 cent pieces, we called them twennies back then) I played for an hour learning how to bust out the supers and learning the alpha counters and custom combos. Then one time at a gas station garage (car repairs used to be in there), there was a mini arcade and I saw someone playing Alpha 2! I watched him play and I noticed he was playing with a different Ryu. I asked him “how didju get that colour combo?” (Black) His skin was tanned too. He just smiled at me and said “wanna see something cool?” And he busted out the Ashura Zenkuu. I was like “what the hell?” 😱😱 then he did the Shoryureppa/ Gou Shoryu. Again, I was like “what!??” He smiled! Then he busted out Shungokusatsu. He had a different colour background with arms folded. I said “who is that?” He said “challenge me and if you beat me I’ll show you to get him. I lost miserably but I did win a round. I kept challenging him. To no avail. He gave the code for my persistence. Told me that the characters name was Dark Ryu. I said “no way! Ryu isn’t dark. He’s a man who fights with honour.” and then walked away. For one week, I practised and then go time. At our local dairy shop, 3 schools meet their every morning to play arcade games before school. Some boys from another school challenged me. No one knew who Dark Ryu was at the time except me. My best mate saw something weird and said “whose that ?” I smiled. I beat all these boys from the other school busted out raging demon. I was unbeatable. Best SFA2 games I ever played!! Sorry for the novel Max!
I remember playing Alpha 2 like crazy when I was a kid in the arcades in japanese. That's why I always knew Charlie as Nash.
Also it's understandable why the vs games used theese sprites, they are awesome!
I owned the stand up arcade for a few years, but I had to sell it when I moved 2 years ago, The screen was not displaying colors right, I had to sodder a new battery on the game board, This game is super fun and I love it, Thanks for all your flashback fighting game play
I've been playing SF since SF 2 World Warrior, but SF Alpha 2 is a personal favorite since I was at my peak playing that game in arcades and eventually owing it for the Sega Saturn. I used to be able to get the Master ranking endings using Ryu and Ken.
2nd biggest mall in Toronto, Yorkdale fell tf off when it closed it's arcade that had Alpha 2.
max playing classic fighting games is comf as hell.
i feel it too, nothing better than kicking back and watching max play some fgs and talk about his stories
Max this is a tear jerker like FF7 remake was for you, This was the second game I got on super Nintendo! after Killer Instinct. Fighting games started my journey on Super Nintendo!
Proofreading a book on metaphysics while leaving this in the PIP window: perfect combination
"I'll try to parry"
Me too in my head Max, I understand jajajaja
I remember that we had an Alpha 2 arcade machine close to our house and Zangief was always a run killer even for the people who played there every day. Pretty nice video Max, as always! :D
Third Strike is the best street fighter art style imo. Alpha 2, Tekken 2 and Crash bandicoot were my first three PlayStation games. Bushido blade was in the mix as well.
This was my favourite Street Fighter game as a teen. :)
Alpha 2 and 3rd Strike were and still are intrinsically tied 1st for me honestly, i adore these games so much.
Never noticed before how the two soldiers in Bison stage salute whenever he is directly in front of him.
I love these videos because it's kind of like a biography of sorts. We're getting to see the kind of person and gamer you are. I'd love to see more of them.
The thumbnail has been on point lately. Following all these artist.
I think what I loved most about Alpha 2 over Alpha 3 was that it followed the individuals stories - the end boss wasn't always Bison
Dan Hibiki. Street Fighter, or Streetest Fighter?
Alpha 2 Gold is still my favourite SF game, after all these years. So many great memories.
I love the little UI touches of this game. Like the portraits around the timer.
During the brief pause before a Super, the portrait of the "receiving end" gets grayed out.
There's no point to it, but i think it's super neat. It's just such a clean and fun UI.
I had Street Fighter Alpha 2 on the snes back in the day. I played it constantly, i was good with Adon and even was able to put up a good performance with Gen. This video brings back so many memories
Alpha 2 is the only game that contests 3rd Strike as my favorite Street Fighter. Everything about this game just hits the right spots
Really pained me that I couldn't lab it on the collection
Remember me and my brother going to the arcade to play against people in the early 2000, what a time that was to be alive.
I'm with you on Alpha 3 not quite doing it like Alpha 2. Not sure why, I think 2 has better stages, presentation and music, there's just something meaty about it.
Yeah, I was CRAZY about Alpha 2!!! I love my Dreamcast version. I was so amazed and in love with the music!!
I remember seeing this in a bowling alley back 2004
SF Alpha/Zero 2 is my favourite SF title, and actually my most played game. I don't know why, but I also like it more than SF Alpha 3.
I've played every single SF game since 1, and Alpha 2 remains my all time favorite
I bought Street Fighter Alpha 2 on PC CD-ROM for Windows 98 back in 1999 when I was in college. That's all I played for years after, on a PC that I built. So yes, this game has a special place for me also, and it is my favorite Street Fighter forever.
Thanks again always the best retro fighting games played here
Man I so agree with you 💯. Alpha 2 for me is still the epitome of SF games. I remember when my friend introduced me to the game, man we had some memorable battles. This game will always have a special place in my heart.
I agree... Alpha 2 was the best street fighter game. thank you for bringing back the nostalgia. Also at 7:06 when you threw Geif, He let you know how unhappy he was with the buster.
I
Just got this today, love it
My friend and I had epic battles in street fighter alpha three. We had mastered Akuma and evil Ryu and had battles that no one could touch us on. Fun times.
Grew up with the snes ver on wii virtual console but i never seen the arcade version until 2019 and it was a huge moment of clarity for me
Gen was my main in IV and the Alpha games. Ngl, was rooting against you that time, Max.
*Dope thumbnail max...Street Fighter Alpha 2 & Street Fighter Alpha 3 are my all time favorite from the 2D era....I always go back and play it on my Wii U*
the fight intros and the jingle are nostalgia fuel
Alpha2 is still my favorite street fighter, and I never knew what I was doing back when I played it. :O
Man this was super nostalgic
You ain’t lying. This game and rival school. Literally opened the doors for me. Been a fighting games gamer since
This is the game that got me into the street fighter series. I remember my dad buying this for me on the ps1 back in 2000. The vibe of this game is so perfect. It also led me to the Vs series and the darkstalker series.
It's nice that this video comes out for SFA2 right after it does really well attendance-wise at Frosty Faustings
Imma go rewatch that, get some good vibes going.
Alpha 3 is still my favorite because of the World Tour mode. That RPG element still remains amazing to me
I still play the on the Anthology collection on PS2.. I now play that on my BW PS3 .. looks soo clean 👌
I had notice when watching this video,
these stages in English version is written the name of country.
But Japanese version is written places name.
(For example, Ken's stage is San Francisco bay,
Rose's stage is Genova's port)
Alpha one had Alpha Counters. Was my first game for Sony‘s PS1 along with RE back in January 1996.
Okay that Artwork for the video edit is Fucking Cool!!! Lmao 🤣🤣 I can't believe you replaced Sakura for Benny which is your dog lol 🤣😆
I've never been into fighting games as much as some. But I had this for PS1 and played the absolute shit out of it. Love this game.
I was like blown away the first time I saw the SFA 2 poster on a mall.
