Alpha 3 holds a special place in my heart! My older brother would beat me up to "practice combos" for a tournament at the local arcade, but i learned everything from that beat down. When my family visited our relatives in Japan in the early 2000s, our cousins were surprised we played Alpha 3. They were even more surprised how im beating them so much that they brought their friends over to see how good i am lol. God i miss those times
Same here it also holds a special place
Alpha 3 was my 1st SF game, n it spoiled me. The rest of the series was bland in comparison
Same my brother forced me to play till I cried. He would just use me as practice till he could get to an arcade. He just bought us SF6 😢
Do you plan on playing sf6 as well with your brother
My brother used to beat me up in SF4 and practice combos on me, surprisingly it was fun still even though I would lose a lot and got me into Street Fighter
i can sit and listen to max talk about the history of fighting games for hours
He should do it more.
I think we're getting New Generation next after this video.
I was gonna write this exact thing. He's a blast to listen to.
Have you heard of this podcast called "TKO"? Sounds like you'd like it.
Gayge
The announcer of alpha 3 is so iconic to me that announcer's voice lives rent free in my mind. Also dope music tracks
"You have fists of GOD!"
"That's Great! Super! EXCELLENT!!"
"Hey, is there somebody who can stop this fighting machine?"
"Sharpen your fangs, it's not the end!"
Go for it Maaaaaan
"Your defensive style is great!
"GO
FOR
BROKE!"
HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENGER
NOBODY BLINK!
Probably my favorite fighting game announcer in this game. I still tell people who say they're going to do something, "GO FOR IT, MAN!"
@@nmr7203 AMAZING STRENGTH! YOU CAN'T GIVE IT UP.
So good.
Go for broke
FACE IT STRAIGHT!
IT ALL DEPENDS ON YOUR SKILL!
Crazy story about Alpha 3. Me and my best friend Kenny used to play the hell out of this game in High School back in 1999 our eternal rivalry was my Fei Long vs his Ken (PS1 version of the game) and we had this epic match and i won and we planned on a rematch the next weekend..... and sadly....his life went sour and he wound up going to prison for 12 years that week and i though i would never see him again. Fast forward to 2018 and i found him on Facebook and we reconnected, hes totally rehabilitated now and has a family and a great life and we got to finish our rivalry, we met up and played the same copy of SFA3 on the same PS1 i had from back then and he finally beat me. Best game ever. Love you Kenny! you my dawg for life!!
He learned how to fight better in prison just so he could kick your ass in alpha 3. A true warrior.
As a casual fighting game fan? I cannot say enough good things about this mini series you’ve done here Max. It’s SOOOOO cool to revisit all these titles guided by an expert haha. Tremendous work!
Agreed.
I couldn't agree more. It's easily the most digestible, uncomplicated, and down to earth breakdown of this franchise I've ever watched.
Street Fight EX 3 changed Max. He is finally opening up and appreciating different things for what they are separate from what came before it. Games he reflexively disliked and dropped initially are getting a fair shake and he is realizing there are unique things to love deep down.
I feel like Max would be doing this even if it wasn't being filmed. Just in a room, by himself.
Such dedication.
He would tell the whole story of the street Fighter franchise to his family during dinner time.
The best type of mentor 💖
This video is probably one of his most scripted videos
@@simshengvue4642 If so, then I'm convinced that he does upload actual RUclips videos still, not just an archive for Twitch compilations.
Alpha 3 was pretty crazy since that was also around the time of Marvel VS. Capcom Games started getting really popular too and when folks wanted to try out "A Street Fighter" after playing an MVC many went to Alpha 3 for the similarities to Marvel. It also helped that many MVC Series Arcade Machines were also next to Alpha 3 😮
@@my-pop-culture Well I also specifically mentioned MVC since if someone literally played MVC back in the day then looked into The Alpha Games they would notice that they matched since they used the same Art Styles, Sprites, and many of the same Moves for the shared Characters in both.
@@my-pop-culture I... don't think you're having the same conversation with Omni as he's trying to have with you
@@my-pop-culture Those didn't directly have sprites ripped from their Games to be used for MVC, outside of Morrigan's Sprite from Darkstalkers which was literally used for EVERY Darkstalkers Crossover back then and CVS came after the MVC Series was a thing.
@@TheCJRhodes Yeah I'm not denying that Capcom didn't oversaturate their own Fighting Game Market during that era, just that if someone looked at The Street Fighter Alpha Series or The MVC Series Games at the time they would notice that they match each other because of the similar Art Styles, Mechanics, and Reused Assets making it so that fans of either one Series would easily be drawn to the other because of the similarities 😅
@@my-pop-culture Okay clearly you're not even reading these anymore and just want to list Random Capcom Fighters so have fun with that......Also you missed Cyberbots: Full Metal Madness, Red Earth, and most importantly Capcom Fighting Evolution of all things if you really wanted to bring up the oversaturation of Capcom Fighters at the time.
Alpha 3 is the coolest fighting game imo, the characters, the music, the UI, the announcer, the stages, everything is so cool and stylish as hell
My first SF game! Fond memories playing this.
Also, I'm gonna say it, Alpha 3's OST is heavily underrated.
It has my favorite Ryu and Dictator themes
It has so many great tracks for all the characters
Ken was an all time favorite
@@KetsubanSolo Brave or Grave was one of the best boss fight music in alpha series
i still listen to the soundtrack of that game- it's one the soundtracks i put on occasionally when i feel like drawing for a couple of hours. It is indeed underrated.
This is my favorite of the Alpha games, and next to 4 is my favorite Street Fighter. It's got so much crazy stuff in it, yet it still nails the SF feel. I have so many memories playing this, and loved the Upper version that came with SF Alpha Anthology. It still bugs me that the definitive version of the game is on PSP.
Alpha 3 has some odd quirks - projectile damage dropping with distance traveled, the guard meter getting shorter as it breaks - but it still holds a special place in my heart. It wasn't the first fighting game I ever played, but it was the first fighting game that really made me sit up and take notice of the genre as a whole. Hearing that SF6 would bring back World Tour, expanded into a full Create-A-Character storyline, really put a smile on my face.
Also, I'm glad I got the chance to help Max with this one (it was me and GG in chat providing info on World Tour Ism-Pluses and the hidden "Super Isms" in Hyper Alpha).
SFA3 on the GBA was my childhood. Then I got into SFA3M on the PSP, great memories
Ryu and Bison's themes go HARD in this game. To this day I hear them on a weekly basis 🔥🔥🔥
Ryu theme is the best theme in street fighter history the alpha 3 soundtrack is so underrated I like balrog and sagat theme too so badass!
Chun-Li's theme sticks out to me in particular
I love Juni and Juli's theme! 🎵🎼
I wanted to see the Dolls being playable in SFV...
Dreams shattered 😞
Ryu's theme is called "The Road". It's so good. Even the miraculous GBA port has a bangin remix.
Street Fighter Alpha 3 is my favourite Street Fighter game. Got many fond memories, skipping classes to head to the arcade to play it. I hope they would release a collection solely for Alpha 3 all the versions on one disc including the Max version from PSP.
The music, art style just bliss. Still play Alpha 3 till this day.
Picked up the OST on vinyl. 🔥 OST.
Alpha 3 was the main fighting game i played religiously in 1999 going into the 00s when it was ported to the PS1, several months i kept playing so much that i had blisters all over my thumbs from practicing special moves and combos to near frame perfection but now that I'm older don't have that much time to out into it anymore.
Alpha 3 was one of my first Street Fighter games I've played.
In fact, I got into the Street Fighter series rather late. About a year before SF5 was released.
It's amazing that Alpha 3 was completely broken in a lot of ways (good or bad) but while Alpha 2 was beloved in NA and the world, Alpha 3 was more popular in Japan. Even Daigo loved it due to the guard gauge. Japan really liked broken but fun stuff, hence why you see quite a few them played a lot of "kusoge" back in the day.
Alpha 3 is Daigo's favorite SF
I've been waiting so many years for an Alpha 3 Max re-release on a common, modern-day system with net play. Would be the greatest thing ever.
alpha 3 on the ps1 was the fighting game I played the most by myself. I easily put in 100 hours playing world tour mode and playing against the CPU
This was the first major fighting game I really sat down and learned how to play. It really helped ease me into street fighter and fighting games in general, after that I went back and played some of the older titles from the arcades, then just took off with street fighter 4, but this game will always have a special place in my heart and that announcer lives rent free in my brain. The sure amount of content the home ports have should be the golden standard for fighting games and I really haven't seen anyone put this much effort and love into a game like this in such a long time, not since the classic street fighter 2's at least, what can I say, I love it all
Katin and Cammy stage OSTs rocked.
Man, that song in background, I love it!
Its really nice to hear Max talking about fighting games. Thank you so much!
Alpha 3 Upper on GBA was my first SF and probably what got me into fighting games in the first place. It missed a lot of features (and was outright broken, or at least my copy) but man, those graphics, that roster, the gameplay variety.
My first Street Fighter game PSX version, made me completely fall in love with the franchise, especially Akuma after unlocking Shin Akuma, made me feel like I just unlocked cheat mode. Ahh sweet memories
Back in the days when unlocking characters was special like akuma before he became a dlc character in steet fighter 5 and 6 that's why alpha 3 is the greatest of all time take that haters and go pay for your dlc characters!
I am loving your SF Legacy episodes! As a SF gamer since World Warrior, this brings so much nostalgia. It’s like watching a docuseries on your favorite game. Thank you Max for sharing all these awesome chronological stories! Perfect timing before SF 6 debuts.
Alpha 3 was the start of me getting serious about fighting Games. Learning Target Combos, Secret Character Techs, Figuring Out Counterpicks for the Arcade. Alpha 3 on the PS1 brought me the confidence to start throwing down in arcades. Not just becoming a tournament champ for Alpha 3, but Soul Calibur and Tekken 3 as well. A-ISM Ryu was my bread and butter; and nothing was sweeter than getting a full damage Shin Shoryuken to melt health bars.
after 2 turbo, this is my favorite Street fighter game of all of them, the world tour mode and all the upgrades you can put on a character makes the game crazy fun and very close to the vs games
Alpha 3 is what made me fall in love with SF altogether. So definitely in my top five Street Fighter games. I spent hours doing dramatic battles, world tour, boss mode, just everything. I love that game so much. It also had some of the best character themes in SF.
Street Fighter 2 at the arcades was my jam when i was a kid but when i was a teen in high school, SFA3 was EVERYTHING!!! i can no express how much i loved this game. After this game, no other SF had as many single player content, until SF6.
4:12 😂, i have laughed like that in ages, thanks max
The game that make me love the series, i can't even count the hours i passed triying World Tour in PSone and the story of arcade mode was amazing (to the series standard)
Alpha 3 is better than third strike but max likes marvel vs Capcom 1 and alpha 2 more than alpha 3 it doesn't make sense to me!
A3 gets overshadowed a lot in the discustions of games by A2. But I think A3 was a good game. Introduced the fatal/crush counter system, guard bars and had some fun risk reward with Alpha counters. And the isums were fun. Not to mention the home version many many modes including World tour.
I'm glad it's coming back into talks and light.
Also Brave or Grave is one of the BEST Final Bison songs in the series.
I actually didn’t know world tour was from the alpha series. When the new version of it was shown off for SF6 I thought it was a completely new idea that they’d never experimented with before for the new game. I’m glad they brought it back and expanded on it and I think ultimately it’s a big reason why 6 is gonna be so successful. Casual players want single player content and this new version of world tour along with the other fun modes like extreme battle gives people that in spades.
huh? A3 easily outshines A2 in popularity
@@skurinski Only in Japan.
@@skurinski Yeah. What was said. In the NA's it A2 cause of a lot of misconception and truths around A3. The big one being V-ism and infinites.
It's bigger in Japan for sure.
I just miss this level of experimentation too. So many modes, so many ideas.
I think A3 is much more appreciated tbh 😂 i love all 3 alpha titles
I had NEVER heard of Hyper Street Fighter Alpha before and now I'm insanely curious. And I'm someone who's such a geek for the series I know things like the Amiga versions, Ken Sei Mogura (Whack-a-Mole), the Mazi unlock code in Alpha 3...
I've been sending request to share light on this for months with various youtubers, stumble upon it years ago with my copy of Zero anthology (jap version) and was blown away by the amount of content exclusive in it, you got exclusive OST too made for specific characters battle, uniques moves and supers + edition select ! This allow you to choose any variation of Ryu for exemple his alpha 1 version against alpha 3 Sagat!
CAPCOM buried this amazing version behind an obscure button combination on the main menu AFTER you beat every arcade mode once, the amount of work they put for this mode is truly a love letter for the fans, what even more shocking : it's not even featured on the damn game box!
The replay ability in these games is INSANE!!
Alpha 3 on the PS1 was all i played for a solid year.
I remember the day me and my brother ordered this masterpiece. We were kids, just came back with our parents from vacation and our neighbors told us they have a package that belongs to us (the postman knew that when we aren't home he can give the mail to them). We went to sleep and played it when we woke up. It was the first time we've spend like 8h in front of the TV. All the characters, checking their super combos, getting through the World Tour mode. It was a total blast! One of the best fighting games of all time.
This legacy series has been some of the best content you've put out!
This is one of the greatest series of videos max has ever done on the channel. Him going through the history of this franchise is a lot of fun to watch and I’m learning a lot of stuff about the old games that I never knew. I didn’t know the alpha games had a world tour mode, I thought that was a new thing for 6
Your editor is on point with these intros!
How I wish i could be like that with those killer edits
@@IndestructibleWill-sc1cu right? The most I've been able to do so far is recreate the zone title card animation from Sonic 2.
Damn, nice editing, the transitions SF transitions are incredible
These are my favorite videos Max does. He breaks down the history of the games, shares his personal experiences and goes in depth about the mechanics. I was always a casual button masher in fighting games but these videos convinced me to get an arcade stick and put effort into learning the mechanics of different games. Shoutout to you Max.
Now this is MY favorite SF game ever made
Me too yet max likes alpha 2 more than 3 which makes no sense and he worships third strike yet alpha 3 has the better roster and game modes what the hell is wrong with max maybe he needs to play alpha 3 max to get him out of his coma!
@@daviddennie4086 hey, 3rd strike is great and in the video man himself explains why he likes Alpha 2, they're not bad games and as always in the end it's all just personal preference
But i do agree that alpha 3 has the better roster
Mine as well
@@daviddennie4086 alpha 2 is more casual friendly and when it comes to the alpha series max is admittedly a casual. In alpha 2 you can literally mash buttons in a custom combo and do massive damage, alpha 3 wasn’t like that. Most of the people who played alpha 3 as a casual didn’t even know what the isms where since they always just chose Aism because it’s the default ism to choose.
Street fighter Alpha 3 is one of the craziest street fighters.
Fun Fact: the VO for Alpha/Zero 3 lends his voice in the first fight of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
Bless the developer who came up with Rainbow Mika's design.
One of the most gorgeous Street Fighter waifus 🥰
Edit: Can we have the Dolls being playable again? I love Juli ☺️
Love her theme in Alpha/Zero 3
You Got my older brother and My Uncle chillin the the garage, stale cojitas smoke in the air, Playing Evil Ryu and Shin Akuma. Watching them clash with the raging demon shaped me as a small child.
Side bar: I love watching u do these legacy series as a new game is being released. I swear these get me so amped for the upcoming game.
Salute 2u Max. For YEARS, I've been watching you do ur thing in this space of Fighting Games, and you just keep getting better. 👊🏾💢🎮
Max....you are simply on another level, sir. really appreciate what yer doin' with this series and everything else you've done.
I still have my og copy of Saturn's Zero 3..... anybody want it????? *NOT!!!!!!!*
The music in Alpha 3 is INCREDIBLE
Man, I remember spending so many hours playing SFA3 on my playstation 1 back in the day. The gameplay, the roster, the soundtrack was just the greatest.
loving this series! thanks, Max!
The street fighter Alpha series was the one I played the most during my childhood. The visuals and presentation got me really into it; Lot memories and nostalgia.
My personal favourite of the Alpha series. Thanks for the content, Max!
Hehe okay in your first video with you talking about Alpha 1 and 2, I was so sad that you didn't mention Alpha 3. Did not know there would be a separate video dedicated to Alpha 3! haha, definitely my favorite Alpha game for sure!!
Alpha 3 is my favorite Street Fighter. I have nostalgia for every aspect of it, the soundtrack, the sound effects, the artwork, World Tour mode, everything. I remember having an old magazine (I think it was PSM) that had tips and tricks and a breakdown for every character's move list and I read it until the pages ripped, and that was before I even had the actual game
Im shocked that you didn't talk about SF Alpha 3 for the PS1. I have that copy and played it to death as a teenager.
Recently been getting back into fighting games and this has just been super enjoyable to watch.
This man is literally where I get my information about fighting games and the one who introduced me to how they work and the lingo that coincide with the actions and various mechanics of fighting games. Much love DOODS!
Alpha 3 was the pinnacle of SF when it came out! I remember it was all I played whenever I got home from school as a kid. Me and my friends would spend hours going back and forth. True classic. You have to have grow up playing SF to really appreciate Alpha 3.
I was literally playing Alpha 3 Max when this video popped up. Hands down, one of my top SF games. I'd love to see it get ported to consoles or in a compilation game.
I recall Alpha 3 when I had picked up the Alpha Collection for the PS2 (which had both the original Alpha 3 and if you input a button before selecting Alpha 3, the version that did have the other Street Fighter 2 characters as well as Juli, Juni, and Evil Ryu). Both my boyfriend Tank and I would often mess around on that version, particularly the Dramatic Battle mode of the game to see how well we worked together. This is also the game where I discovered the character I would play the most often in Street Fighter, Cammy, despite her appearing in 2 beforehand. I have quite a few memories of Alpha 3 and I wish I was able to help a friend with his run of the world tour mode of Alpha 3, but I didn't have a chance to.
I loved playing through world tour mode. The different customization option and match parameters the mode gave you, fun times.
Alpha 3 is definitely one of my go to games out of the SF series. It was so easy to pick up and play and the amount of modes and roaster it had made it so enjoyable and replayable. Thanks for making these types of videos Max! Would also love to see you talk about the modded SF2 games, like the rainbow edition, black belt edition and super golden edition and how those gave birth to SF2 turbo. 😉👍
Street Fighter Alpha 3, Tekken 3, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, The King Of Fighters 98 and Winning Eleven 4.. i have consistently played these games in PS1 Era with my brother. Now we both near our 40s and waiting for the another golden age of fighting games. KOF 15 already released, SF6 will follow in few days, Mortal Kombat 1 and Tekken 8 on the horizon.
I remember a lot of that stuff in the World Tour mode of the Dreamcast Saikyo Dojo version too. Did your world tour end with the legendary cheapness of the Boss-ism Double Final Bison's with the Infinite Super Meter?
One of the sickest videos with Alpha 3 transitions and the thumbnail is brutal!
I haven't played the Dreamcast version yet, but I heard that it has a bunch of changes/inaccuracies to it (in fact, it's said that Alpha 3 Upper is based on that version).
There's just a bunch of weird things about that port(s) that I want to investigate at some point. Capcom apparently released DLC "Master" characters as bosses to fight with World Tour characters and Matching Service apparently has an edit mode (that made it into the PSP version-it truly has darn near everything) that lets you basically skip the World Tour stuff and customize a character from the get-go with the ism+s you have.
The PSP Max version still kicks so much ass.
Facts! Ingrid and Maki are my favorite characters! Hope they return
Can we get alpha 3 max on the switch please I'm begging you Capcom just stop giving us the standard arcade version which doesn't have the roster like alpha 3 max does!
R.Dramatic battle was hard as hell!!
Alpha 3 was neat, but hard as hell. I loved the selection of characters, as you got cammy and soldiers that were under her command when under the control of Shadow Law. You had Cody from Final Fight in a prison outfit, and the roster is just so big. I still own the psp version, which as you said is perhaps the best version of alpha 3.
It has so much content. The only thing that lacked: 4 Player Dramatic Battle
Alpha 3 max holds a special place in my heart and my first introduction to the fighting games as a whole I remember my dad bought it and would play it from time to time and he taught me “quarter circle square” as he called it to throw hadokens
My favorite street fighter
8:50 Other than the price tag, this is the best way to play SFA3 without having to deal with the Memory Card dilemma on your arcade stick. The PlayStation has memory card slots on the console, while Sega Saturn has system memory backed up by whatever CR2032 battery you inserted into the console. The Dreamcast, however, has memory card slots on the controller, so loading and saving your high scores and settings will be a pain in the neck unless you have a Dreamcast arcade stick with a built-in memory card slot.
World Tour was amazing! 😁
Man I loved this game, it was my main street fighter game when I was in my low teens. I had played SFII before it, but I was just a kid then. Great game, so many characters and so much to do and play around with.
The music to this game is awesome
'Alpha 3' on the PSP was the only 'Alpha' I ever got to play. I used to read all the '90s video game magazines for glimpses at stuff like the 'Street Fighter Alpha' series.
Wow. You mimicked my exact thoughts about Alpha 3 here.
I also felt like I just couldn't get the grasp on the 'Ism" mechanics, well especially in regards to the V-Isms.
I also always prefered Alpha 2 as well. This video makes me want to go back and see if I can get a handle on it.
It just sucks when the meta is basically V-Ism down the line, straight up; and every single character is like Yun out of 3rd strike but on crack.
Most people put 3rd strike as being more technical but I've always had a harder time adapting to A3. I guess I'll have to give it another shot. Balrog V-Ism does sound like a creatively sick main, even if it'd probably be trash, lol.
Great video as always, man.
Also, Street Fighter III and Street Fighter III 2nd Impact both came out before Street Fighter Alpha 3 by one year. It feels weird for the Street Fighter series' opening medley (from the PSX port of Capcom vs. SNK Pro) to play the SFA3 portion before the SFIII portion.
Max is literally a fighting game history teacher and I love it
Loving the legacy videos! Wonder if we can do one for MK leading up to the new release?
The Edge did the music for Alpha 3. Up there as one of my favourites. It was also a continuation from the animated movie and explains how Vega survived his fight against Chun-li, and went to rescue and help rehabilitate Cammie.
In my local area, a none of the arcades had a Alpha 3, so I’ve really only played it in the most recent 30th anniversary collection
Wow! The editing. Amazing.
Hey Max! Great video! Just a heads up that Eagle and Maki were added to the GBA version of SFA3 before the PSP version even came out. The only new character for the PSP version is Ingrid.
Back then, characters and content wise, it was the dream for SF fans ! The interactions between characters, some based on the Street Fighter the movie were everything we didn't know we needed!
And KOF was actually the alternative... What a year it was ! 🎉
I had this on Dreamcast...One of my favorite fighting games...might be my favorite. I wish they would make another Alpha style game.
The arcade version's unlock system is pretty nutty, btw. In a nutshell, the longer you let the machine run, the more content gets unlocked. A machine's unlock level (which, from what I hear, advances every few weeks of power-on time) is indicated by, I shit you not, the color of the title screen's background. So you can do Dramatic Battle, Survival, and Final Battle modes on an arcade machine by holding certain triads of attack buttons as you press start after putting your coins in...but only if the machine's been installed for long enough to reach its final unlock level (light blue).
Alpha 3 is my favorite
Alpha 3 on PS1 is one of my favorites. The fact you got all the Alpha plus the Turbo World Warriors together for the first time was amazing.
When Watching Maximillian, i change my resolution to 720p, and crank the saturation to max.
its the closest thing i have to a time machine.
Thanks for all these years Max.
I just love how Street fighter continuously gets better and better. Loved doing the customs ism combos. Cannot wait for the Street fighter 3 video
The best Fei long was in Alpha 3 and made me a fan of the character dumping all the shotos. Also I do understand the love for ALpha 2 with the art, great backgrounds, Music. Just that my favorite character and roster expansion and feature rich content on alpha 3 for single player sold me
My favorite Street fighter ❤
Alpha 3 is criminally underrated game in the whole series and it pains me so much. I wish it had the following SF3 has... Probably my most played game of all time and I've played Bethesda and other RPGs...
Also A-ISM best ism for variety of supers and options. Something that never cameback to the game series ever again...
Me too.
Alpha 3 is my most played. I wanted to play pro back in those days. I was so good. Lol nowadays i cant really play anymore. I still enjoy watching people play.
Pros like the variety so in their minds SF 3rd impact or Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter are better. But the reality is that SFA3 had 1,6 mil sales, SF3 3rd impact had 200k sales and MSHvsSF had 300k sales. There is no question of popularity.
The backsong is a love song
cant wait to watch all of these and also Im hoping for a video that will just have them all together in one video.
Alpha 3 is awesome, still tô date play extensively on my darksoft cps2
